Wing Commander is the best space-simulation-shooter ever made :) All these Star Wars, freelancers, X3, Tachyon's are crap. WING COMMANDER RULES! That music and atmospfere is unique!

Most fans would agree that "Wing Commander should rest in peace"...and/or "Wing Commander quit at a high-point"...I dont agree 100% with the latter statement..I think Chris Roberts should create a new WC game with 110% awesome factor..If not to end the series on a really high-note than at least as a way to kickstart the dead Sci-Fi Flightsim genre.

You know, I liked George Oldzeiy's music in the later Wing Commander games, but I still prefer the original WC fanfare by, I believe it was "Fatman" in the first game. I wish that that theme had been more present in Oldzeiy's music, and in this intro.

Well, it was the Kilrathi pilots calling you 'Furless Freak' in WC3 as in "FIGHT FURLESS FREAK" and in WCP, its them shouting it at the bugs

Will it run on modern OS though? Kilrathi Saga was updated to run on windows, but that was on Windows 98 I think and using the old Soundblaster sound detection as well. I want these games back too, but I'm afraid its just too out of date to run on modern PCs

Not sure as Prophecy runs on Win XP SP3 but haven't tested Wing Commander 4 as yet, I have 2 pc's I guess would just have to run it on Windows ME or 98se and put up with that

Kilrathi saga will work on Windows XP, assuming you set all the executables to run in Windows 95 Compatibility Mode.

I need to work on that. I still get video skips on that and Prophecy, even when I cut down the performance of the sound card. Oddly enough, my DOS-based version of WC4 works just fine when I install the Windows 95/98 updater thing included in The Kilrathi Saga set.

About that, I run WC3 with VDMsound - but I can't figure out how to get it to display in its proper aspect ratio on a 16:9 monitor.

you can't, unless you got an option to have balck bars. If you don't have any standart monitors you could go oldschool and get a cheap CRT. i've seen 17 inch CRTs go for low as 5€ so...

i've noticed on the web that most people have trouble running this game on xp, i just installed it on mine machine asus p5ne sli with nforce 650i chip and dou core 2 cpu e6550 and gefore 8600 gt 512 and 4 gigs of ram!

Id say the last great Space Sim game would be Freelancer which was done by Chris Roberts. But it shared more with Privateer then it did with WC Series. Either way I loved these games and still have it boxed up. Though trying to play it on Vista is a mission.

Probably..But the Sci-fi space sim genre was peaked with WC Prophecy & Freespace series. There haven't been any real contenders since.

@SidNightWalker it won't be MechWarrior like it used to be, though. More straightforward, action-oriented instead of the complexity of a simulation game.

Ooooh, I love this cinematic. Origin did the best cinematic cutscenes for their games such as the Wing Commander Series and the Crusader series. I hope both of those come back!

Damn. Where can I get this version? I have only been able to play WC2 (came with my CD-ROM bundled package) and WC4. I had no means to buy the games back then, so if my dad didn't buy them, I would not get them. :(

The WC games had been long gone by the time I was able to buy games for myself

not really, it has none of the elements that made the original series interesting.  In fact, it has things that specifically will annoy fans of the original series.
