Bloody transplant donk itself would be dearer than the whole car, putting it in and making it work even more so. This still needs a bit more money thrown at it to boot. Expensive. I shudder to think how much it would cost to do this is NZ. Probably cheaper and better overall buyin the M5 itself at 40 odd grand.

That is really awesome! It looks extremely difficult to do which makes your feat all the more spectacular. I don't know the numbers but I'm sure the S62 is much heavier than anything in the e36 and really expensive.

For those interested in e36 V8 conversions, and not a purists, check out Vorshlag Motorsports' LS based (LS1, LS2, LS3, etc.) conversions. The LS based V8 is almost identical in weight to the M3's 3.0 - 3.2, much cheaper, and more powerful than the S62. Vorshlag has vids on here.

your going to need some good downforce, high end brakes and suspension, strut bars and sway bars,a stronger shaft, better differential, a better transmission and widened the wheel base other wise this cars is as useful as a 52in bravia to a blind man.

No it doesn't. I have an M5 sitting in the garage right now. The top of the intake plenum is much closer to the firewall in the E39 M5 than in the E36 body.

swansmeister, you idiot, the e36 was bmw's most succesfull platform, even the later e46 was still based on the same platform. e36 is magnificient as it is, e36+v8 is just dreamy. 3 series was the sports one, 5 series was the executive one, 6 and 7 luxory one. but when it comes to sport, still the 3 series platform is the best. you idiotic crap.
