and iris is just annoyed after she realizes she encouraged clara to go to the ball to and catch the princes eye because she didnt realize she could catch the princes eye, but she is actually in love with casper she just doesnt think caspar loves her until she finds out in the end. the movie kind of ruins the book.
lol none of u obviously read the book. iris is love with capsar long before she knows he loves her, she is also not supposed to be pretty at all but plain and kind. however little does she know caspar has always loved her and chooses her over clara because he isnt shallow and sees past beauty he admires claras beauty but he loves iris and would choose her over clara any day.
I get why the price likes clara ( which is totally wrong to love just for looks by the way) but why does clara like the prince? i mean hes so ugly! and she hardly knows who he is!
ahhh...the reality of life...there is no such thing as magic but the story of iris is beautiful in the way of fing love through trust and respect...now that is magic!
I'm a big fan of Gregory MaGuire, the author of the Book. The book was excellent. I Highly recommend it. Thank you for posting the movie version. The characters in the movie are much like the way i imagined them when reading the book.
I'm a big fan of Gregory MaGuire, the author of the Book. The book was excellent. I Highly recommend it. Thank you for posting the movie version. The charecters in the movie are much like the way i imagined them when reading the book.
This adaptation of the book makes me so annoyed... it's so frilly and happy go lucky... And they just had to make that idea of "magic" still there... ugh. The book is so much better. I encourage ANYONE who even somewhat likes this movie to read the book. It really is an awesome re-telling of cinderella, with a lot of the darker parts of humanity written in it.
What an absolutly wonderful fairy tale and interpretation of the Cinderella story! I love this one even more than the original :D Thank you from the bottom of my heart for uploading this!
I've another truther movie of jack and the beanstalk, where the descendent of the original jack, is cursed unless he returns the golden harp and the goose. The fairy tale was biased to make the giant the "bad guy", but the original jack stole the golden harp, and the goose amd through generations, the family of the present day jack were rich. As I said they were also cursed alongside it. it's a good movie I suggest watching after this, if they have it on youtube.
This was such a great movie. If you ask me, I think that Iris received a far greater happy ending than Clara. Iris got to marry a man who not only loved her but he delighted in the same passion for art as she did. Also, she married a man who did not follow through with a marriage on outer beauty but loved her for who she was inside. This should be a classic.
Brought up in the 20'th and 21'th century and thinking marrying a prince is a "longer stick" than evolving one's talents together with people who love you when they know you, not just fancy you for caprice. To me the prince seems quite shallow though he thinks himself otherwise...
Iris obviously did not want him. She just obeyed her mother and then the first success was delicious for her ego. Bad food though ;)
I love how, by the end, the stepsisters are great friends...so much better than the origional <3 Its such a happier version, too, and it shows that theres good in everyone xx
Beauty over brains... The moral of this story is corrupted. The prince doesnt even know 'cinderella' yet falls in love with her for her beauty over iris with whom they had obviously formed a connection over common interests, Cathy only accepts becuase she wants to please her bankrupt father with riches from the royal family. Casper treated Iris like second best, Ruth was shown as unintelligent and ugly and therefore as cathy said to stay and clean/look after the house with her forever.
@dotcomguy79 I've heard that they are possibly making a movie out of Wicked... but it might be more like the musical rather than the book... even tough the book is way better that the musical... and I do LOVE the musical because of Indina Menzel AND Cristine Chennowith!
i like this version very much...i allways thought it was stupid that the stepmother and her daughters where pure evil...no one is just evil...i mean here, even margaret isn't completely bad...
p.s. isn't Clara Cassie from the UK skins(season 1)?
@kassandra8alkhs no... I don't think that is Cassie... Cassie is a little bit more awkward looking... as well as being beautiful. Plus, it's an american production... The girl who played Iris is American, then there's Stockard Channing. Gergory Maguire (who wrote the book) is an american author too...
Although the stepmother made wrong choices does not mean she is truely evil. It means that she is trying to survive in the world and raise her daughters as what she thinks is best.
I loved this version. I realize that no matter what the take on the Cinderella story, I always enjoy it. I must say this is the happiest outcome of the them all because everyone lives "happily ever after". I do love a happy ending!!
I thought that this was a good movie. And since I loved the book, I love this movie. I love the Iris and Caspar pairing, I love Ruth's innocence, I love Cinderella's change of character into a blatant disregard for herself so that her stepsi--excuse me, I mean sisters' happiness, and I love the ending. I think they could have extended the ending a little to explain who was telling the story and why it was being told and how beauty can be more than skin-deep, but overall it was a new favorite.
Though it may seem the main focus was Cinderella-though again if you were WATCHING, it is not! You know the saying "Good things happen to good people" well in this case its true.....Iris was kind though tough-when Clara was mean. It shows a different side of the "Step-mother" and "step-sisters" If you look at iris and listen to her you'll learn that even if she is no great beauty....she is happy and only a man who can truly "see" her is worthy of her.
@MrSuperdrama i would guess princes are rarely handsome unless one of their parents marries a commoner. The inbreeding within royal families makes for some pretty bizarre features.
The prince was slighted when he realized that Iris rejected him by claiming she wasn't much of an artist. The prince's fascination with her boosted her poor self image. Once that was settled she too happy to prove that the slipper "didn't fit her."
Funny that in this story of Cinderella the real loser was the character played by cinderella. The prince here was ugly and pathetic. And his clothes - dorky..
RE the subject of beauty. Perhaps Clara superceded Iris in beauty but ultimately Iris's combined beauty and intelligence made her far more engaging and attractive. Clara's looks bought a ticket to the throne with someone she practically detested, which was tragic. Clara was very forgiving and self sacrificing in the end. But again she looked more like a prisoner than a princess.@Joyness333
I love this version much more. Although it has its downs its ups are very special. Plus, Casper is so gentle and sweet. if only chivalry still worked like this in real life now.
Unfotunately youth has moved on and I'm not as ripe as I used to be, and if I can identify with anyone in this movie, it is probably the stepmother. Given the context of the past, the fact that she is painted a villain is a bit bewildering and disheartening. I've also learned that it is not so much appearance itself that becomes an obstacle in relationships, but ego. There is nothing sustainable when it comes to ego.I believe the movie addressed this, but didn't spend enough time doing so.
@MissUniqe101 also back then everything was made and not processed or packaged so to me they looked healthier but also disease and fever ect most people didnt have long livelyhood but this era was a great era or the 50's-60's era music i would of loved to be born back then and when things were cheaper andmore simple
The wicked stepsister wasn't wicked at all..And the prince charming wasn't charming at all!! I like Iris and Casper's love story better than cinderella...
Clara wasn't raped. She had sex with the prince, later married him and was able to take care of her family. The prince was a guy who slept around a lot. In the book he died because of all his venereal diseases and his family wanted an heir before his inevitable death.
The prince did NOT rape Clara. In the book she ran off into a hidden chamber with him because that wretched Van Stolk (the man who said he would possess their entire house) was chasing after her. Yes, they slept together but he did not force her. She bled because she was a virgin.
Aww I like the ending and I think it's really cool how you get to see the stepsisters point of view rather than The typical Cinderella story. Plus Casper is really hot <3
@Joyness333 Sad that you say that. Beauty doesn't pay the bills or find a decent man who will love you for who your are not an object to be shown off. The prince might have gone with his hormones but he accidently got a nice person. Beauty might open doors but it doesn't get you real friends or help people love you for who you are. I hope you will see that this is true in your experiances in real life. This is just a movie.
I have experienced both ends indeed. I have been in relationships where I felt somewhat like a trophy, and my words or thoughts were never fully savored or valued, but gulped down with necessity and forgotten. I wanted so much for some of the guys that I have been with to WANT to hear what I have to say, but it always seemed like a struggle to get a word in. They simply just wanted to keep me in their life and micro manage every aspect of the relationship.
@Joyness333 I WILL TELL YOU SOMETHING , AND PUT IT VERY WELL DEEPLY IN YOU'R MIND . IS HOW YOU SEE YOU'RESELF . I'M A OVERWEIGHT HOMOSEXUAL GUY WHO EVERYONE PUSH HIM TO LOOSE WEIGHT , BUT I'M FINE WITH MY PHYSHICAL LOOK AND THE ONLY THING MAKE ME MISERABLE IS , THAT I'M LONELY .AND NEED A BUDDY . NOT SOMEONE FOR BOYFRIEND JUST FOR BUDDY . SO FOR ME IS PERSONS WHO REALLY LOVE YOU NEED TO GET THROUGH LIFE .
@doc90ful I think your forgeting that throughout the movie Cinderella changed from being a selfish brat to being a kind sister. Also she stoped being afraid to go outside of her house
Omg! That was an amazing story! It was beautiful! And Iris finally got Casper! ^_^ Truly I wish that I had someone who loved me as much as he loves her. I honestly thought that I did once.
this was on abc a millenia ago!!! Why the hex hasnt it been released on DVD?? its a great film! I need to add it to my collection it deserves to be up there with girl with a pearl earring.
And as for you, well, believe whatever story makes you feel better, if that means you believe in glass slippers and pumpkins that became carriages, then do so. But the truth of it, well perhaps not as magical is in the end far more beautiful.
I love how Margarethe is egging on Clara and the prince lol. Stockard Channing is just fantastic.
"You're perfect for each other, can't you see that? Why do you hesitate? Sweep aside any doubts. Trust your feelings and grasp the moment before it slips away only too quickly. Seal this union with...a kiss"
any1 else agree with me in saying the prince looks like a manly girl with 2 much makeup on? i mean seriously...wash ur face dude. u look like a chick!
Haha I love how so many people say love isn't all about looks but then go on about how much better looking Casper is than the Prince.....

Plus Casper is really hot <3
beepmileycyrus 1 year ago 2
i don't see the significance of a typical cinderella story complete with magic and fairy godmother but with nicer ugly stepsisters...
Iris' role is pretty much equivalent to one of the mice in the disney movie

The only thing that I've learned from this, is that once again, beauty is all you need to get through life, and screw everything else.
Joyness333 1 year ago 70
@Joyness333 Yup
SapphireZukotu 1 year ago

@Joyness333 the "ugly step sister" who wasn't ugly found love with a man like the prince and they weren't the beautys of the land.

And as for you, well, believe whatever story makes you feel better, if that means you believe in glass slippers and pumpkins that became carriages, then do so. But the truth of it, well perhaps not as magical is in the end far more beautiful.
God, I love this quote!
