Imran's movements were being hindered even before Musharraf declared emergency but IIRC right after the declaration his arrest warrants were issued with some serious bogus charges. He was in hiding to avoid arrest and had planned to hold a rally at Punjab University. The traitors of Jamiyat kidnaped him after his arrival and handed him to Musharraf.

This is the protest of PU students hours or days after that event. Soon after this his sisters were arrested too in that brutal Police action.
