Amazing, this is the oldest clip I've seen of TD. I wonder if Edgar Froese's seen it? He'd probably laugh his head off. It sounds as if he's still learning to play the guitar! Most of the audience look as if they've OD'd on LSD. Let's hope that the London Forum concert on 1st Nov this year is a little more musical. See you there!
Around 3:57 it looks for all the world like the bassist is having a hand shandy, just because of his movements and facial expression. Same thing at around 4:40. Feckin' hilarious!
Great clip of TD before their first album. Drummer Klaus Schulze was just 2 years away from starting his electronic music career. The location is the courtyard of the bombed-out Bayernhof Restaurant at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin - the Hyatt Hotel stands there today). When the ruins were cleared away c.1972, the ornamental structure the band is standing on (St. George's Fountain), was re-erected in another part of the city (Hindemithplatz) where it stands today.
@tonythepixel Great symbolism- something new growing from the ruins after extreme trauma in the heart of Europe- perhaps- There's a revolutionary energy in this that's of it's time- and in a way has an angry new wave edge in some ways-- There's a lot of Hendrix's voice in it too-- It's of it's time and looking ahead too- The guitar part is very bluesy--- and it hangs on a kind of awakening moment- just on the edge of Krautrock-
@keltyk Hi! I've been a huge fan of TD for about 35 years (since the days of Rubycon), followed them right up to the present day, got most of their releases, seen them eight times including once in Germany (I actually live in North Wales, UK). They were first formed more than two years before they recorded their first album, and it's great to come across clips of how they sounded back then - I wish there was more of it around.
now that is real new age music!! TD took that and put into a lot of the dark stuff in their 70s music, which is what made their magick happen! This is why they cut an edge! Even Cyclone has a whiff of it! Don't know what happened after that! Recent output is returning to the source; the world is still the same to get musically angry about!
@zeit23geist There's some dark stuff on their 80s albums (think of the opening to Mojave Plan on the White Eagle album), but it gets lesser and lesser as you move on. Like you said, it seems to be coming back now.
Great clip! It sounds like Edgar Froese was completely ignoring his own rhythm section and was jamming to the band that came on after them. It just goes to show that he was ahead of his time...by about two hours.
Fantastic stuff! I have never heard and certainly have not seen any pre-Electronic Meditation Tangerine Dream. It's really quite bad! But somehow excellent. There's actually women dancing to Froeses dubious guitar riffs!!
2:57 super jolie la fille !!

The guitar from about 3:30 to 3:37 reminds me of the opening to Pink Floyd's Let There Be More Light.
