Been a huge fan of Floyd since I was a little kid growing up in the 70's. Didn't have computers, video games or cell phones. Had cool parents, some cool toys and Pink Floyd albums. Wikipedia----In 1971, the rock band Pink Floyd recorded the live concert film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, performing six songs in the ancient Roman amphitheatre in the city. The audience consisted only of the film's production crew and some local children."
^^^^^^^
Can you imagine seeing them where the ROMAN EMPIRE once stood! WOW, JUST WOW!
La primera canción que escuché de Floyd, fue "Another Brick in the wall", por consiguiente, the wall fue el primer álbum que escuché hace unos 12 años atrás, ahora no hay un día que no deje de escucharlos y cada vez es mejor.....
Someone could confirm a rumor here in my country Bolivia?, Pink Floyd is supposed to chose at first to play this concert in the ruins of Tiwanaku, but due to the government of that time in Bolivia, could not be performed. Please tell me if this is true?
I remember the first time I watched this. It was 2 am on a Sunday evening not so long ago, I was with my dad in the living room watching bbc, he's always been a Floyd fan- every since I can remember. I'm a 14 year old girl, and after watching this- I'm so sad to say, I wish I was born a different time.
@Rainmakerlola i'm right with u i'm a 13 year old boy and started listening to pink floyd when i was 9 and i never have been able to get into the rap and pop of today. so then when pink floyd became my favorite band i went to see "ROGER WATERS THE WALL LIVE" for my 12th birthday with my dad and it was definatley the best moment of my life and my dad has been to rock concerts with bands that he even likes bettaer than the floyd and said it was the best show i've every seen!
Probably due to their usual very high standards of quality. Most of the recordings from that period were of typical bootleg quality, and even the best ones, such as the ones on Volfgangs Vault, were soundboard recordings that suffered from balance problems (especially with the vocals). Unless you have a multitrack recording to work from, it's bloody difficult to rectify errors...
@ejl1000 the only person that did drugs on pink floyd was syd barret and he left because of the drugs... because of what happened to Syd the rest of the band never did drugs and if someone said that they liked drugs they would get really pissed
The reason there aren't any good bands any more is because nobody does drugs. Think about it. Most of, if not, all of the worlds best music was written under the influence of drugs: The Beatles, Floyd, Hendrix, Sabbath to name a few.
"teached" in public schools? Maybe you should have gone to school to learn the English language. It's TAUGHT in public schools, NOT teached. How ironic...lol..
MaverickMediaUK - thank you so much for sharing this extraordinary video concert with us. To hear Pink Floyd perform in this theater in Pompeii must have been unbelievable, considering the acoustics this theater is known for. I am an old-timer, and have always been; and always will be, a Pink Floyd Aficionada. This is perhaps the most outstanding live film video of this most outstanding musical group.
What a MARVELOUS site for a Pink Floyd performance! The way that the outdoor theater was built by the people in Pompeii was built not only for ideal viewing, but for ideal acoustics as well. I can't even fathom how astonishing Pink Floyd must have sounded in this setting. I saw them on their "Animals" tour at the Tampa Football Stadium, and they were unbelievable. But to have seen/heard them in this place, Pompeii - man!! Betcha all the ghosts that must be there have never been the same since!
Serious question: Is anyone knowledgeable enough about cinematography (at least, in 1972) to tell me what the purpose of the aqua-blue parasol/umbrella is over to the lower right of the screen during "Echoes?" Or, do you think it might be just one of those surreal Floydian jokes? If I were to guess, I'd say it had some actual function, but what? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers -- or thinks they can answer -- this inquiry.
Pozdrawiam
Half of the earth should thank you for this vidéo, the other half should listen it, to thank the pink floyd, who have made it... That's nothing more than a Huge moment of music
why aren't there any other groups like this and the others who lived in the 60th/70th? Probably the businessman understood that these music band can change the world? Is that why we live in a world with no good music at all? bleah
@MrP953 Completely different times my friend. T'was a different country with different attitudes. Today, the rife disposable culture has stripped life and its pleasures of value. Stroll through any british town centre - could you really imagine Pink Floyd again? Projects like Concorde WOULD NEVER have been achieved in today's socialist europe. In 1971 it was still accepted that some individuals are more gifted than others; thus Pink Floyd. Today this band would be unfair. I think. Sad.
@MrP953 rather than asking why there's no other group like floyd... maybe ask yourself, how was there a group like floyd? Be thankful there was a floyd. If you were an artist youself, you'd realise what a fluke this band were.
@MrP953 There are bands this good but the thing is everything that became popular about pink floyd idealistically, is because historically, these ideas were the natural response to things like vietnam, (roger waters' emphasis on the importance of human life?) you take away the real world problems, and suddenly artists find that if you lament on problems during prosperity in music, it doesn't catch on, look at the 90's. cheap easy feel good music for an easy time in history. art represents life.
great to see the band so young, i saw animals/wish you were here at the garden in 77, what a dynamic and expressive show, pure musicianship and psychedelia melded into one concert!!!!
Bless you! Thank you so much for uploading this! I have spent days just trying to piece together clips to make a playlist so that I could experience this moment in musical history. THANK YOU so very much for taking the added time to list the song pieces and their time references! I have had such a hard time finding this anywhere in the United States except for ebay~I don't "do" ebay~ and I do not understand why in the world I have not been able to find this on dvd. THANK YOU! ~pamela
@Darrenc68 Surely, this is not out of print. I bought this DVD at Sam's Club, not quite ten years ago. But if it is, you can surely find it on ebay and not have to go through the waiting of an auction.
I first saw this on TV late one night when I was 15 or so and I was just a thick working class kid and I can recall how the visuals, the presentation and the music made me see that "art" could be presented in many diferent ways. Real personal education for me.
@ThomasSheridanArts I can see how that could happen. I think I was about the same age, as you when I was becoming more interested in music. Art appreciation mostly came a bit later. Those days as of now I gravitated to, what could be called different ways of expression. I remember being very taken by A Saucerful of Secrets - melody and dissonance. I thought it was terrific - for a thick kid...
I don't know why PF doesn't release their live recordings from 1966 to 1973 like The Rolling Stones doesn't release their live recordings with Mick Taylor. Those recordings are absolutely tresures of rock.
@discoverytime1 Hah! Ain't that the thruth! Saw this on TV when I was 7, and I haven't "recovered" to this day, and I'll be 40 in 6 months... Echoes and Set The Controls here is so monumental it's undescribable! The rest is pretty mind blowing too. Pink Floyd!
This has one of the most awesome intros to anything ever ,....

Impresionantes Floyd.

Pozdrawiam

Who is who in first/second voice in Echoes?
I guess Gilmour is the first voice, though I'm not sure.

why aren't there any other groups like this and the others who lived in the 60th/70th? Probably the businessman understood that these music band can change the world? Is that why we live in a world with no good music at all? bleah

@MrP953 rather than asking why there's no other group like floyd... maybe ask yourself, how was there a group like floyd? Be thankful there was a floyd. If you were an artist youself, you'd realise what a fluke this band were.
louisalive 3 months ago
@MrP953 ALMOST no good music... mind Fleet Foxes...;)
labete44 3 months ago

THANK YOU! ~pamela

@Darrenc68
You could always just go to demonoid and download an image of the DVD...
macgeek2004 7 months ago
@Darrenc68 Surely, this is not out of print. I bought this DVD at Sam's Club, not quite ten years ago. But if it is, you can surely find it on ebay and not have to go through the waiting of an auction.

@MaverickMediaUK
I first saw this on TV late one night when I was 15 or so and I was just a thick working class kid and I can recall how the visuals, the presentation and the music made me see that "art" could be presented in many diferent ways. Real personal education for me.
ThomasSheridanArts 11 months ago
@ThomasSheridanArts I can see how that could happen. I think I was about the same age, as you when I was becoming more interested in music. Art appreciation mostly came a bit later. Those days as of now I gravitated to, what could be called different ways of expression. I remember being very taken by A Saucerful of Secrets - melody and dissonance. I thought it was terrific - for a thick kid...

@elephanta2 Absolutely. Not so sure about the dog tho.
MaverickMediaUK 11 months ago 2
@MaverickMediaUK I think the dog barks because the pitch of the harmonica hurts his ears. But the rest of the film is fantastic

@elephanta2 Amen to that! This movie had a lasting effect on my psyche.

I don't know why PF doesn't release their live recordings from 1966 to 1973 like The Rolling Stones doesn't release their live recordings with Mick Taylor. Those recordings are absolutely tresures of rock.
elephanta2 4 months ago
@discoverytime1 Hah! Ain't that the thruth! Saw this on TV when I was 7, and I haven't "recovered" to this day, and I'll be 40 in 6 months... Echoes and Set The Controls here is so monumental it's undescribable! The rest is pretty mind blowing too. Pink Floyd!
