I was at the Robert Kirby Memorial Concert yesterday and saw/heard Fab Cab sing this: they sounded beautiful. Well done to all: Constant Penelope was a highlight in a wonderful gathering of great talent.
Looks like Constant Penelope will get its first ever live performance... at the concert for Robert Kirby on 3rd October 2010 in London. The singers are getting together for the first time since 1968! Tickets available online. It's for you Robert
the internet is fantastic! as more people are posting 40+ year old songs there seems to be a wonderful situation going on YouTube at the moment where children and relatives of various long lost 60's groups are saying it is there dad, uncle or brother!! love it! more! more! more!
Well well. Who would have thought that this would appear after 40 years? My daughter May found it - not googling myself! Marcus, total legend - yeah! Would be lovely to see you again and yes of course you were the very definite fixer! Very sad to hear of Robert's too early death.
The late Robert Kirby was one of the contributors on this song and I as the mother of his children applaud them for an, ahead of their time, recording.
@CammyF84 Which one is your Dad. My late ex-husband Robert Kirby was one of the Gentle Power of Song. Your Dad might well have been at Robert's funeral, Marcus Bicknell was.
I have "The Holly & The Ivy" Christmas LP by The Gentle Power of Song, Gabrieli Brass, and Martin Starkie (narrator). It's quite honestly my favourite Christmas album ever, I only wish I could find it re-released in some form to give to my family and friends. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions?
Oh, and thank you Marcus for your amazing voice and the voices of your former compatriots!
I love the "freakbeat" decsription. We had heard "choral meets pop" but this is a new one. I am the total legend which is Marcus Bicknell, that you hear singing on this track. I was also the fixer for the group as we used to sing "a capella" at May Balls and dances round the home counties of the UK 1967-69, under the names "Fab Cab" and "The Gentle Power of Song". I am in touch with John Potter and Robert Kirby but have lost touch with Alan Fairs, Richard Dibley and David Sloan.
Big Jim Sullivan on guitar.

I would love a copy on cd, if that's possible!
I've almost come to the point of trying to learn to record it into my computer to make cds, I'm so desirous of sharing it with my wife's family.

This reminds me of the Zombies O&O, which is a good thing. Lots going on in this selection!
