My favorite performance of this symphonie. If you know the Kindertotenlieder, you can hear the words of song number 4 in that long violin arc from 1:39 to 3:12 or so:
"Im Sonnenschein der Tag ist schoen auf jeden Hoeh'n!" -- In sunlight, the day is beautiful on those heights! The poet is imagining the children he has lost have only gone before him, just a little way, and he will catch up to them. At the end of this symphony, it breaks the heart. Thank you for posting.
For me Mahler has for a long time been a mystery. Not placed on the same level as Beethoven or Mozart but again his name was heard over and over. I feel he is together with Rachmanivov chronologically some of the last great composers.
@xinghong Hey man I have this exact same recording, the fabled double disc;) at home myself. THE best recording of the ninth one can EVER hear with their ears. If you can PLEASE upload the Andante Comodo aswell for these innocent people/ears, it would be much apprieciated. Thanks.
One of the greatest conductors, one of the greatest composers, and the most beautiful final moments of any symphony I know. Thank you for putting this up. It is truly moving.
Is there a greater symphony? And this movement, esp. this final part, is the pinnacle of the work. Ineffable.
