I liked what you had to say up until you took the stance of God being only light and unable to respond.

No I don't think people need to wait for a statue to respond to them, however God gave us the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit guides us, it IS His response to our surrender.

If true enlightened masters can be counted on one hand, then most of us seekers have virtually nil chance of ever even meeting one, especially those of us who don't live in India or the USA. So what of the oft repeated idea that when the student is ready the guru will appear?

Namaste. There are many many enlightened ones, but a sincere seeker must allow the universe to bring one to them. In this one's group, there are 8 enlightened ones, all giving guidance. Once you make an honest decision to follow a path to full liberation, a teacher will appear when you least expect it! :)
