Just to let you guys know that the guy that wrote this masterpiece is PETE WINGFIELD. He's the main backing vocal singer on this track, and he`s the keyboard player. HE'S ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED ARTISTS EVER. The sugarhill gang was there just for the rappin part. Pete cutted the whole track alone. Not joking.
This is song is my all time favorite. They just don't make music like this anymore. Brings back a lot of good memories of good times with friends and family who have passed on. A classic jam in my book!
OMG,forgot how amazing this track was until i heard it again, one of the best songs of the 1980s and very under rated, should have been a MASSIVE hit,it still gives me goosebumps and brings back fan memories, thank you for posting, quite simply fantastic !!!!
@technohousepunk first time i heard this song used was by breakbot in his valentines mixtape released on feb 14th 2010. if you haven't heard it you should definitely check it out. check out that whole mixtape actually. as far as the artist you're looking for sorry i couldn't help.
I never understood that. Since when is rap exclusively all one thing. It's a genre, not a political statement. If the beat is right, we can go all night. Oh I get it...it's because they're happy all the the time right? Since when does rap always have to be angry or about illegal stuff? The Gang aren't any less a rap group because of their subject matter or where they came from.
@Mixxersmix THANKS MAN I DONT GET IT TODAY ALL ABOUT THE SHORTY BOOTIE CALLS nahhh how bought we just go back to when suger hill and GMF anlong with tupac and shaka con the greats
This was my favorite song. Rapping was new then, so I think they tried to fit in at the time. The skating rink played it for a backward skating song, I've been hooked ever since. Sugarhill rules!!!!!!
Funktastic! I remember this used to be one of DJ Dave Browns tunes-can't stop listening to this, us girlies used to play this all the time and it was played at the Essex Soul Weekenders!
@joshii5 the song almost crossed over here in the states too, It made it up to about 60 or something like that. To me it was the best song they did, and even began to go into vocals, but they did have help with the background vocals.
This brought a lot of inspiration while in high school, and also inspired a musical parade that brought a magical presentation that one over a lot of students, for a joyous nite, a great nite it was, it was my first gig as a musician in front of crowds of a lot of people.

ps love the jazzy keyboards at the end that's why it used to mix in so well with the more traditional jazz funk on the pirates back then
ancientraver19881989 8 months ago
big hit on the pirates and in the clubs in the London area in the hot summer of 1983 - this and Jazzy Dee 'Get On Up' - great year to be 17/18

Does anybody know name of the house artist who sampled this tune before Moulinex? There was one french house version of this song in 1999.

[Master G]
I am the king of the rappin thing
But love, is really my game
And when it comes, to gettin the finest chicks
I put all the other rappers to shame
The ladies scream when I'm on the scene
They love my 280-Z
And when the party's over they stand in line
to go home with the Master G, ha ha hahhh
OLDSCHOOL RAP ROX!!

@vaitomanocuseutubo all the rappers of that time had to be lovers. Big daddy Kane even did a nude Playgirl photo spread ( that killed his career)

I only knew the version from Shalamar, who made the first version?
Tom3030 3 years ago
Two entirely different songs. Shalamar's version is a classic old school slow jam.
Listen to both songs.
CurPseudoNympho 3 years ago
Yes my bad, 2 different songs. I have the one from shalamar. But I just thought I had heard this song also from another group, but guess not.
Tom3030 3 years ago
It's a good song to (attempt) to sing to..
