my school just got this snare drum, engravings and everything... i'm he only one that gets to play it because i'm the only qualified drummer :-P i love music teacher favoritism :-P
these weren't made in the usa..made in asia...still , great sounding drum..i was thinking of getting one to add to my arsenal...the first tuning range in this vid, is probably the best range for this snare, as far as versatility ..!
I own a 6.5x14 Black Beauty (engraved by John Aldridge), which looks and sounds superb. I just ordered the 5x14 Anniversary Black Magic as another sound option. It looks great, sounds great, and I won't feel so bad about taking it out for gigs! The first thing I am going to do is replace the heads, snares, and add a millennium strainer - keeping all of the original parts safe for the future.
@mccakb01 As I'm sure you found out, the Millenium Strainer doesn't fit the factory hole pattern. I put on a Dunnett strainer. These are fantastic sounding drums!
is it worth getting or saving a few months longer and going for the black beauty that is the question... why is it cheaper if its a brass shell also and this one includes dicast hoops?
after soom research i believe that the black magic is made in china.... i must agree with the black beauty and although i would not see myself ever selling it unless circumstances force me to the black beauty has much better re sale value..... gonna take your advice and save up for the Black beauty....
SICK!!! iv never been even to slightest bit interested in ludwig until now. rock band has killed ludwigs image in the sense that they arent very professional. thats my opinion. But this sounds FANTASTIC. iv gained a little bit more respect for ludwig.

I would save up for the original Black Beauty. Seamless Shell and better strainer.
Both are pretty sweet, though and I like the Die-Cast Hoops.
