  • 28 years later, he still has the record

  • look how humble salt lake city was

  • the Greatest ever!! Congrats from a GSW die hard but a BBall fan first.

  • Kareem is the greatest player in NBA history .

  • Major props to the people of Utah for cheering. I doubt many cities would do that today.

  • i'm surprised cuz wasn't this in utah?

  • Best hook shot ever

  • look at pat 0:57

  • why did the guy guard him? faggot let him score

  • @kixmgc it's still a basketball game. they know kareem's just 1 point shy of the record, but he still has to do it while being defended.

  • When that shot went down Wilt's heart sank I bet. Kareem>Wilt.

  • Kareem 10,000 more career points than Shaq ! So let's not bother even having a discussion of who the greatest Laker center. There should be no debate !

  • @expos73 Agree 100%

  • this nigga was beast

  • Damn did they stop the game

  • "His mama!"

  • WOW!!!! Remember this like it was yesterday. So many of us crowded around the TV that night going crazy ready for the "Cap" to break Wilt's legendary record. And listen to the crowd. LOL. Thanks for posting!!!

  • Did the game ever end?

  • literally brought tears to my eyes. He is truly amazing

  • This is not Jazz fans this game was in Las Vegas and Lakers fans are in Vegas.

  • i bet lebron would be booed if he ever breaks the record while kobe would be appreciated (i don't think kobe will. he will pass k. malone though)

  • @SquantoThePenguin "kobe would be appreciated" pfft. Maybe in Los Angeles.

  • LMAO @ the pathetic guy trying to high fives with Kareem xD

  • @Bionickle he was on the court where were you?

  • Wow what a moment, this gives me chills. I can only imagine what it was like live. Pretty amazing how loud the Jazz fans got for a player on the other team, but this moment transcends the jersey color you're wearing.

  • yeah the crowd showed PURE class. i've never seen something like this ever in sports.

  • This still sends chills down my spine after all these years. The way the fans were cheering for Kareem and Chick's call. Thanks for posting!!!

  • This is a great show of class, The Utah jazz Fans giving him a standing ovation. Shows you just how far the NBA has come in 25 years

  • The game was not over yet!

  • he deserves this more than any player

  • Why was this in Las Vegas

  • Good to see a peace-loving Muslim every now and then. Freaking terrorists!!

  • @mosdef911 why u bring religion into this? kareem is a great muslim role-model, and a true legend. its not Islam's fault that a couple of radical turban-wearing idiots decide to go crazy. Islam is a great religion. if it wasnt for islam, kareem would have done fuckfests like magic and gotten aids, or gambled away a shitload of money like MJ, or broken down and retired early due to alcohol and poor diet. kareem is honorable nd deserves utmost respect for his basketball abilities

  • its not every day you see jazz fans cheering for lakers.

  • True, @greensack69. But as mentioned in the comments above, the game wasn't even close. The Jazz fans were simply appreciating NBA history being made. If he had broken the record in Boston, it would have been different. The crowd would just go silent rather than booing him.

  • @bakerandbaker1 yea boston crowd is racist too. they will never accept the fact that there are players better than larry bird

  • I said they would go silent, not act racist (well, maybe like one heckler trying to break the awkward silence). BTW, I'm a C's fan, but in my personal opinion, nobody is a better all around player than Jordan. But maybe that's because I'm a 90's baby and not a baby boomer or older.

  • @greensack69 thats not jazz fans its laker fans it was played at thomas and mack center in vegas.

  • The guy at 1:59 is my dad haha! This is so funny

  • Man this guy its a fuckign LEGEND

i was 6-8 years old when i use to watch this games :)

    good 'ol times

  • Great LAKER Moment!!!!

  • That was awesome for Kareem. But records are made to be broken. If Kobe can't do it, expect either Lebron or Kevin Durant to do it 10-17 years down the road.

  • Yeah@rjm.....just remember they got to start off at a young age to pass Jabbar because he completed 4 years of university which they never did.

His 38 year old Finals MVP record is one that will NEVER be broken. I guarantee it.

  • @FuShengAlex

Never say never. Players are playing longer than before. Its more likely that will happen then say someone breaking Chamberlains 100 point mark. 38 year old Michael Jordan had the capability---too bad he didnt play for the Lakers, Pistons, or Spurs instead of the Wizards---lol. Maybe he wouldve gotten a shot. I dont see Kobe playing long enough to be a finals MVP at 38 (that would be his 20th year in the league).

  • @rjm22nd

Kobe an MVP at 38? That would be his 20th year in the NBA if he makes it that long. but u never know.

  • @jyoung6661: he wont last that long. look at him now, his fingers knees everything is taped.

  • @rjm22nd: i doubt it bud! kobe is already breaking down. kobe just wants his 6 rings to tie MJ, he doesnt care bout the record. and lebron will break a lot of records, but not the points record. i highly doubt it.

  • LMAO you are a fucking idiot.

Bryant had injuries all year long and still had one of his best seasons ever with 27 ppg, 5 apg, 5 rpg, and 45 %. This year he'll average 30 ppg no question.

    Learn some basketball moron.

  • @gocowboysgo2011 we'll see dude...kobe is not on any mission to break points record

  • @rjm22nd I'd say LeBron has the best chance. He's broken every "youngest player to score x amount of points" record since he's been in the league and cuz he came straight out of high school, if he can average 25 ppg for another 10 years, which would put him at 36, its possible. Would have to say injury free of course. Scary thing is, despite all he's done he's barely halfway there!

  • ohhhh WHAT A GENIUS

  • for those of you who are not old enough to know the NBA of the 80s and 90s, you truly missed out. fans truly appreciated good basketball and everybody respected everyone. there has not been another real post players (shaq) since these days and it is a shame..

  • @hoobie06 Which i was there :(.

  • Barak-allah-feek.

    Thhhhhaaaz riiight

  • He is the best offnese player ever

  • Awesome post. Been looking for this video for ages.

  • Great post! Since Kareem broke the scoring record I have only seen the snippet of the play but not what happened before nor all the other part you included. How cool!

    Thank you for posting this!

  • Was David Stern BORN commissioner?

  • lol for real

  • Comment removed

  • If he were, he should've been killed at birth. lol ;)

  • @UdallIn72 LMAO

  • @UdallIn72

yes, david stern was also born a fat troll.

  • @cubicleboy Haha yeah! I'm disgusted that that douchebag honored Kareem!

  • wow the 80s fans were something.

  • so he broke jerry west's record correct? GO KAREEM! if he was this age in this era of basketball and still playing, the lakers would have done an eleven-peat instead of three

  • The saddest part is i remember watching this game and them stopping it when he got most points ever in the NBA...

God, the NBA needs more superstars..

The Lakers were legendary... kareem, magic, scott, worthy, ac green.... that's the starting line up i remember... that's the starting line up you see when you saw the championship ledgers on the wall of the Forum ... alas, the lakers need another dream team.. kobe is good but I want a legendary team not just a player..

  • and yes I know they play at the staples center now, never been there.. i wont go there until the new generation of lakers proves themselves worthy enough for my presence..

  • cooper, thompson, shit even mcnamara...

and of course the men who brought it all together... Chicky (RIP forever) and of course his sidekick Stu.....

Chick Hearn... the lights are out, the eggs are coolin, the butter's gettin hard, the jello's jiggling...... but I know you are still ripping it up there in heaven, my friend... thanks for the memories.

  • You forgot "the door's closed."

  • i know.. i realized that a couple seconds after i clicked post...

  • exactly i rememeber

kareem magic worthy cooper and rambis

  • This was in Las Vegas? Why were they playing there?

As for all you Muslim Kareem worshipping fucks, the minute you fanatical shits give up terrorism is the minute you are heard. Shit look at your caps, the cybertext equivalent of a fanatical freak. Nobody listens to fanatical freaks you Indian shit.

  • ur fucked up

  • ignore my commentary, my best friend is actually a muslim...

    fuck yeah..

  • Without a doubt...The Greatest Center of All Time!

  • This was Magic Johnson's greatest assist. Kareem is the King of points. Nobdy will pass him. You would have to score 25ppg for 15 years to get their at that point, but he scored 7,000 more points by 1989.

  • Kareem is still the greatest. The Sky Hook - the most unstoppable shot ever.

  • Shaq woudnt be able to do shit against the Sky Hook.

  • @CypressVillain128 Jabbar is better than Shaquille O'neal, taller and better player, by far.

  • It was 25 years ago tonight! Kareem - still the King!

  • best center of all time period.

  • Wilt said if he had any Idea that his scoring record would of been broken he would of easily still been the scoring champ

  • KAREEM IS ARABIC WORD MEANS GIVENESS UNSELFISH, AND IT MATCH Kareem Abdul-Jabbar TO THE TEETH, HE USED TO ALWAYS SHARE THE BALL AND HE IS A TEAM PLAYER (THE CAPTAIN). I'M SO GLAD HE STIL WITH THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS ASSOCIATION HE IS JUST GREAT PERSON FROM ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT HIM, HE JUST HAVE TO SMILE MORE OFTEN HE IS ALWAYS SERIOUS BUT HE IS THE BEST WE ALL LOVE HIM. YOU SEE I'M THE BIGGEST LAKERS FAN EVER WALK THIS EARTH AND THAT'S ALL WHAT I BELIEVEIN GOLD AND PURPLE. GO LAKERS ALL HTE WAY!!!

  • short shorts???

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar es la más grande leyenda del Basquetbol para mi. Su tiro de Skyhook es imitado pero nunca igualado. Kareem por siempre!!!

  • the thing about kareems accomplishments that are so great is that they were all attained with a team first mentality. chamberlain made a point to set individual records, as amazing as they were. kareem was also vastly superior to wilt in high pressure situations.

  • Well said. I couldnt have said it any better. Kareem was all about the team. He couldnt have played for John Wooden if he didnt have the team in mind first.

He was also a great passer from the low post.

  • kareer is the best 7 footer ever

  • Talk about winning it big in Vegas.

  • Michael Jordan was the greatest overral player. But Kareem, IMO is the greatest Center who ever lived.

  • y a pase de Magic, quien sino

  • the greatest ever basketball player, and he's muslim aswell, Mash'allah. God is the Greatest.

  • You have to give it to the fans too. He didnt do it at home and they were just as loud. Classy fans.

  • actually they were playing in Las Vegas that night for some reason I cant remember but Vegas is still close enough to be home, however, still very very classy

  • He's just that great. Universally loved.

  • what's greatness ? --Kareem

  • Back then the Jazz played at the extremely small Salt Palace which only 10,000 fans, one of the smallest venues...the T&M in Vegas has about 18,000 seats, so for a moment like this....18>10...GO LAKERS!

  • This season however, ended in extreme dissapointment and depression..losing a 7th game in Boston Garden to the Celtics..

  • ...but preceded a season of great redemption and revelry as the Lakers took the 6th game in the Garden. :D

  • Pro Basketball Hall of Famer, one of the top 50 best players the league has ever seen..too many damn accomplishments to name..

  • A record that may never be broken again.

  • Jordan was no where close to the record and frankly I don't think he could have lasted the years as a guard to do it. Height never goes away so centers have more longitivity in the league than guards.

  • You must not watch much basketball...

  • Wilt played 14 seasons. Kareem surpassed his scoring total in his 15th season of play.

  • I still say Wilt is the better scorer, since he played about 12 seasons while Kareem played 20 seasons, but Kareem surpassed him in his 15th anyway. he ended his career 5 years later with over 38,000 points

  • Yea, but I personally believe Kareem played in more of a competitive era in the 70s and 80s and Wilt played in the 60s when there was not as much "professional" play. The Celtics or Lakers of the 80s would have destroyed any pro team of the 60s easily.

  • you have to thing of it like this, 25 teams vs 12 teams. only the G's were better the big men were about the same size.

  • Kareem played against a lot of 7 footers, Wilt scored on midgets. Advantage, Kareem.

  • that's just about the silliest thing i've read in a while

  • Why were the Lakers playing in Las Vegas? And shouldn't they be the home team?

  • At that time, the Jazz played several "home" games at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks bro

  • What the fuck are you talking about? Everyone knows how good Kareem was. When ever someone talks about the greatest centers, they always begin with Kareem.

  • one of the best centers ever people don't realize how good Kareem was.

  • This was special because the new record was established with the greatest shot (skyhook)! Plus the shot was clean (swish!), so there was no chance for goaltending or interference to ruin the moment.

Even free throws (in most cases) would ruin things. And the game was not close, so there was no reason to foul (thanks to Jazz for showing good sportsmanship). It was perfect how everything unfolded.

Let's hope Kareem's reign lasts for a very long time. Long live this King!

  • as chicky would always say, "swing left, shoot right" the most beautiful shot in basketball

  • It is 23 years and counting for this record, but it was a close call when Karl Malone joined the Lakers.

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar!

  • What a special moment in sports history! Today's NBA players don't have the stamina and longevity to achieve this record, so I think Kareem will stay the scoring champion for a LONG, LONG time. =)
