@rockondon You don't need too use CFL's to get a beutiful result when using LED's. we are talking to much fuss for almost no gain. more pros than cons for sure.
i found a 2 pack of 90 watt LED "UFO" grow lamps that cover all spectrums during veg and flower for about $400.00. yes kinda pricey but they last 5 years at 24/7.
@northsider707 Want to buy 4 300 watt LED panels cheap? They did not produce as advertised thats for sure have you tried a grow with induction lighting? ck out the you tube video for indagro or the pics on their website. we've had good yields 300 grams in our tents with the 100 watters 1-100 for veg 2-100 for budding. it comes down to PAR on these lights and the VEL for 2 100 watt induction os higher then a single 400 watt hps. peace
45 watts? no wonder its 'cool'. Not a fan of LED. & as said... u use other spec light to compensate... Just a waist of time if you ask me. I'm sure it will be improved soon but it seems that it is just being tested...
Having said that, it all about the environment the room is in & the flowering light is essential. Not impressed sorry m8, good info tho & good vid (happy dayz!)
@david9562 Just because somthing saves money does not mean anything l.e.d are not even starting to be to the point to replacing the tried and true h.i.d lights and the prices the want for this shit that does not cost anything to make is crazy the best thing to do is wait 10 years untillthese things work most effective and not go and buy every new light that comes out each month .I have not seen one l.e.d that is worth shit and when i do then ill be impressed
not many because it uses red and blue wavelengths only, lumens are not a good measurement. lumens measure intensity at 555nm which is green/yellow. plants don't absorb these wavelengths much relative to blue and red. Photon Flux Density or Micro Einsteins are a better unit of measurement because they measure what the plant uses, not what the human eye sees.
you can get them at hydro shops or online...sometimes called light hangers or light yo-yos...the ones featured here won't support more than 13 lbs or so...you can get some heavy duty ones though...they use cable instead of cord and have a stronger mechanism
I like all the little things on strings. For some reason it seems very futuristic. Maybe it's just all the silver. I was wondering if you built those led panels yourself or if they are a finished product you bought? If you built them yourself i have some technical questions about how you supply power to the LEDs. If not, then how much does something like that cost?
The dual spectrum, lower output models featured here could be sourced for less than $150 per panel. Those who know electronics and have a recipe for the wavelengths could make their own. More recently, there are some incredible high-output quad band panels that easily compete with 600W and 1000W HPS.
Why are there so many differences in the prices of grow LED panels nowadays ?
They all sell the same spectrum, the same longlasting life, the same power (100w(led)=400w(Hps), 120w=600w etc...) and the same new high power led generation... Where is the trick ??
@pitimatou from what i understand an led is an led(is an led), but there are many many different manufacturers of LEDs(the individual diodes themselves). This may be where the big difference in price comes in. I could go to a reputable supplier of electronic components and pay a dollar each for a nice brand name diode that performs very well and has tons of documentation, or I could order straight from china and get mysterious, but ok, LEDs for a nickel each.
Another thing; why doesn't your co-worker urbangrower use LEDs? His room has nothing but HID lamps and people's medical grow ops he goes to use ZERO, none, notta, no LEDs. So yeah, this is the part where you try and save face. Hope you don't get fired...
Also, there are no good LED lights. Cfls are more powerful and a fraction of the price! Nice try salesman, go find another profession, you suck :-)...
Don't buy advanced nutrients! Just use molasses and tiger bloom(fox farms)! AN are overpriced molasses water! I personally tested "bud candy" vs molasses and the molasses (black strap) results were just about the same. Don't belive the hype!!! And don't use LEDs, it is a scam to make a quick buck!!!!!!
that's correct, the 45 watt model featured won't penetrate too far into the canopy on bigger plants. feel free to check out my more recent videos on LEDs. An SG-1202 can penetrate further into the canopy than a 1K HPS...the initial cost is a barrier for some growers though.
What exactly are you looking for in an LED light? I already grow with HPS but want to try LED just for fun, however due to the price, I'd like to get somewhat descent return.
looking for sufficient intensity and the right balance of spectrum...quad-band units with diodes that are at least 2 watts can keep up with HPS lamps with 1/3rd of the power draw and almost none of the heat. With LEDs, you really get what you pay for. So far I have been very pleased with StealthGrow units for all phases including flowering and ripening, they deliver what they promise. Their SG602 can produce around the same yield as a 1K HPS...the 1202 model will blow a 1K HPS out of the water
thanks, that's a great tip for keeping the co2 levels higher through the fermentation process; once "X" level is reached for alcohol content, it's time to replace the batch, as the alcohol will kill off the yeast
keeping the same temperatures is OK ie 75-85F with lights on, although to encourage a higher rate of transpiration if the temps are lower ie 75F growers can maintain the humidity levels lower ie 40% (vs 50-65%) with a de-humidifier.
dude led suck thats it they suck cfl are better than led they just dont grow good thick plants all the plant i see that are grown off led light are real skinny and have little bud thats all there is to that how many time do we have to say they suck.................................................lololololol they suck for every thing veg suck all plant growth suck, that that.
the leds in this vid are great for veg, and mother plants....with cfls they are OK for flower (considering how little power they use and how little heat they give out). the quad band high output LEDs featured in my latest videos are as good or better than an HPS, and will blow any cfl out of the water....crappy LEDs shouldn't give ALL leds a bad name...there are some really good ones; it's just not as standardized from one to the next like hps, mh, cfl or t-5s are.
I would probably wait another couple of years will LED grow lights have advanced. They are an awsome concept, good from veg. But HID create the fat buds.
I think it's a cool setup, but I didn't like how he said you need florescent lights as-well and that the LED's don't penetrated large canopy tops, and are only good for small plants, but I do like that they are not hot, but I'm still not sold on these they are way to expensive just for small plants and you still need to install florescent lights too, seems good if you want small plants but not for anything with a big canopy.
the new generation of quad-band high output LEDs will penetrate thick canopies better than HPS; it's critical to have the right LED though...they are not nearly as standardized as HID lighting....so far the "bomb" IMO is StealthGrow's 1202 model...expensive though.
you are right, that's a good idea....the beer turned out pretty tasty however:) wine would give off a longer more constant supply of co2....might try that next time.
Ive done some research on LEDs, ive seen, the same brand, same model, fromdifferent sitss say that its 45 watts and 27 watts. So which is it? Also, what brand of lights are these?
the ones in this video are "Glow Panel 45's", their actual wattage depends on 3 things: wattage of diodes, how many diodes, and how much the internal drivers power the diodes. rarely, are LEDs powered to 100% of their output. These panels are great for veg, seedlings, moms, clones, etc...they need a broader spectrum for flowering in some types of plants, that's why the CFLs were added. These are super efficient, although not incredibly intense.
what type of adjustable hangers are being used, the? i ordered some on ebay and they did not seem to do the same thing he did in this video (raise and lower them without effort) every interested inthe brand he used
sorry to say, not very cheap. if you can learn to put together your own LED lights you can save some money however. however, if you do buy LEDs, they will actually pay for themselves in a couple of years because they use so little electricity and the bulbs never need replacing.
seems like i over-used "however" there :) BTW, you can get LEDs with modest output for $300 or so...the super high output ones that compete with 1000W HPS lamps are $1500+
haha this guys a norwegian like me i can tell just from looki at him.. his names erik like mine.. the big difference betweeen me and this man he has a lot more weed than me hahaaa
I have done various project with LED lights and using the more effective 5Band Grow light the result ARE amazing! good pricing here: thewrightsolutions . com
I would like seeing actual comparison to proof your statement before you make such a bold statement.
It's easy saying something if have not tried it APPROAPRIATELY. Else I would recommand you to come see our testing lab, the 5Band LEDs really put the CFLS and certainly HPS in their place.
check out hydroponics secrets #51...those LEDs can yield within +/- 5-10% of a 1000W HPS; except they use only 327 watts of power to do it. could yield even more if you go with co2, because they run so cool that the co2 won't get vented away as readily.
yeah global warming is a multi trillion dollar business.its fake, just like leds suck for growing pot.the main problem with led panels is they burn or short out
mine came half burnt out.second cfls just
simply grow weed.replace all leds with cfls if yer broke.ifnot use hps
HPS lights are to be banned in the EU, the politicians have amended the policy and HPS are to be phased out by 2012 for public and commercial use.
Street lighting is to be replaced by new LED lighting, you can now get 5w super bright LEDs, google them you might be able to buy them cheaper from the manufacturer and build your own, probably the best thing about LEDs they are happy to run on a car battery should the power go down, LEDs do have one thing on their side they are cheaper to run.
@Torran08 that is because the EU is one big nanny state and you all need to be watched ! meanwhile, while you cannot get a hps lamp for your garden and you will have to settle for less (LED's) , i will be here in america running 4KW of hps and you will not ! LOL fucking commies ! LOL LOL !!!
don't be so cocky, I know plenty of people doing a bid because of thermal seeking heli's. Not to mention the rise in energy use is suspicious. America is not that far away, they are adapting the same measures. NyC is turning into shit
do you always open your mouth without thinking LED's suck, narrow mind and little knowledge.
Check the facts first these LED's are small output in amount of lumens, these little leds do not produce enough lumens for a single light, but will help a lot for the colour spectrum.
Bigger leds are available which can compete, but are very expensive.
Check out the other LED lights on Youtube and your thoughts will change.
How can you make comments without the full facts, back up your comments on LED's suck with information for people and let them make there own decision.
The simple fact is that everything has pros and cons. LEDs are great for what they do. All that you need is realistic expectations. Use the right tool for the right job. In many cases, the right tool is LEDs. In many others they aren't.
leds are amazing products!!yes 1000 watt hps is better the a 90 watt led..but if you run 360 watts of led combined with a couple cfls you will kill any hps!!im talking from exp..and for veging leds are the best!!no heat no burning and rapid growth!
@JayDomination dde they are usfull! 1000 watts are hot and can be spotted by police with a heat detector! commercially i use 600s but at home just led and uvb cfl..dosnt get any safer then that
it;s a shame how fu.ckn dumb people are if u use 150 watt led with 3 watt unit or bulb IT DOES WORK the panels n even the 90 watt ufo [ 1 watt bulbs ] r not intence nuff same as if u use 50watt hps n grade all hps on how the 50 does IDIOTS
are these leds lights really as good as hps as they say they are. The problem i see with them is they don't cover a wider area or spread as far as hps. Also if you have a cold grow room a hps can be of benefit to keep the grow room warm
Hey! Very nice video man. I have heard a lot on both sides. Many people say LED has poor yields. But, I was wondering if the yield of an LED is comparable to a HID? What kind of yield would an optimum room with 600 watt LED be?
Hey man nice set up was just wondering, ive got a 600w hps light but was going to use led untill the flowering stage to keep cost's down. Say u switch it from the 18 hours light changing the led to hps for 12 , would it affect the plant in any way ? Thanks
not true dude...90 watt ufo kills 400 watt hps..cant compete with 1000 watt but if you use 2 led ufos with a cheap compact you can beat any 600 watt light..
@JayDomination dude im using leds right now..im not some stupid kid talking about shit they never even used themselfs..fucking kids kill me these days
I agree...that was my first round with LEDs, a while back now. What do you find is working best?
The fermentation thing works perfect with LEDs, because there is minimal air exchange you can easily get over 1200ppm....even 2800ppm! No extra heat either.
What is that grow tent in your video called and where is it from? I've been looking for it and I can't find it. Is it something I can find online? or in any local hydroponics shop?
this one is "The Hydro Hut, Silver Edition". Personally, I am very impressed with the quality and the fact that they actually stand behind their product...a few brands, which shall remain nameless, left their customers "out in the rain" when everyone was having problems with off-gassing from the covering materials a couple of years back. You can order online or buy at your local grow store. Make sure that they guarantee "no toxic off gassing" or your plants might suffer.
We are getting fabulous results by creating a "blue sky" around our high pressure sodium lights using homemade LED panels. Healthier plants, bigger fruit, the whole nine yards. Likewise in Veg we are using a "red Sky" combined with our Metal halides, and are getting "alein" growth, 2X wider leaves, and 2X+ thicker stems. We use 5 chip max MCD, 10mm LEDs at 470nm blue + 630nm red. We use aprox' 4, 50w blue panels per 1000 watt HPS, and 4, 50w red panels per 1000w halide light.
so what is a better light source LED or CFL's? now that u can get these t-5's in blue 450 and red 600's is it the same spectrum. or is there a differance other than consumption/ vs. lumen output. so ultimately what do u think is a better choice.
a tough question. Actually with floros they say "4500 KELVIN" while with LEDs they are talking about "450 NANOMETERS". The Nanometer is more specific; kelvins talk about the whole rainbow, nanos talk about the individual bands.
t-5 bulbs may give off little heat, but the fixtures can get very warm! If you can afford it, personally, I would recommend a high quality quad-band LED. When you use LEDs, CO2 becomes cheap and easy; overall the growth is way more stealth with fewer fans needed.
not exactly. higher wattages, for example 1 Watt diodes or greater are preferred. the spectrum of the different diodes used and their intensity helps determine which LED set-ups will work well for growing plants. now if you had a 1000 bbq lights....kidding.
I'm setting up a 3x3x7tall closet (it's all I have) what would be the best lighting set up for this space? Can I get two plants in this space? Also can I get away with Miricle grow products to grow and flower? Thanks for any advise, Mahalo
you can believe whatever you want...I don't own a lighting company, so I have nothing to "gain" other than sharing what I have learned...it's more than anecdotal....my work is "peer reviewed" by over 100,000 growers every month from the various editions published throughout the world.
What do you want to bet that a 600W Quad band LED will out-yield a 600W HPS?
Let me know, maybe we can make it happen and we will see who's statements are lacking credibility...
You obviously have no clue what the definition of scientific "peer review" is and your claim that 100,000 people "peer review" your work each month demonstrates just how little credibility you have. That claim is a complete joke.
There's no unbiased study that shows a 600 watt quad band LED light will outperform a 600 watt HPS. The burden of proof is on the person making the claim and the balls in your court.
It is so painfully obvious that you have no scientific background.
There is not a single peer reviewed research paper that shows that a LED set up will get any significantly greater yield over HID lighting and in many cases will give less. This includes the research from NASA.
You claims about one of the "originals" growing and getting better yields is anecdotal and has no credibility.
Eric, you are making claims that you can not back up and this also shows in your magazine articles.
Has the Audio Series you mentioned "The Grower File" been released yet? Where can it be purchased? PS keep up the good work Mexican9999 I don't know what went wrong with your crop but AN works great for me. Sorry you had a problem.
There will be some FREE promo CDS included in about 5000 boxes of the new Bigger Yields Flowering System, which should be avail. in most areas September 2009, according to Advanced Nutrients. A good deal indeed.
Thanks for the support, and wishing you the heaviest yields imaginable! Here's to breaking the scale;)
I wish I did! The only feedback I have had on a 600W LED was regarding a super-pro veteran HID grower (seriously, one of the "Originals" of indoor growing) who set up a 600W LED over a 5' X 9' area and yielded what 2 or 3 600 Watt HPS lamps would...without all the heat and noise mind you!
Advanced Nutrients suck the big one!! I'll never buy it again - they want you to cram all of their products into your res and all this does is kill your plants.
Since you are refraining from using profanity, you are free to state your opinion here. As I am sure you would expect, there will be others who disagree with you.
unless it's for very small seedlings, it won't be worth your time. The 14 watt panels lack the intensity needed to sustain vigorous growth in plants for production. They would be fine for house plants...although not so much for tomatoes, flowers, etc. Even the 45 Watt panels are not that intense. Although they are more expensive, try and get one of the 90W fixtures that have tri or quad-band LED diodes 1 watt or greater per diode. This will give you the quality and yield you want.
Great little set up and run through. I hoping to see a video that convinces me to switch to LED's from HPS, so far that buds and yields just are not even comparable.
dang, I accidentally deleted someone's comment asking about what temperature of floros to use with LEDS...really sorry, hope you see this and re-post it!
This is cool. I remember someone saying that LED's blue light is far too inefficient to bother with. That person insisted the use of CFL's with red LED's only. But I haven't seen that yet. Every grow that I have seen so far is a mix of red and blue (80% and 20%). And I'm pretty sure nobody measures the light in the CFL's they use. There are different varieties of CFLs. They did not produce as advertised thats for sure have you tried a grow with induction lighting? ck out the you tube video for indagro or the pics on their website. we've had good yields 300 grams in our tents with the 100 watters 1-100 for veg 2-100 for budding. it comes down to PAR on these lights and the VEL for 2 100 watt induction os higher then a single 400 watt hps. peace

how many lumens does that led pad put out?
hashish559 1 year ago
@hashish559
not many because it uses red and blue wavelengths only, lumens are not a good measurement. lumens measure intensity at 555nm which is green/yellow. plants don't absorb these wavelengths much relative to blue and red. Photon Flux Density or Micro Einsteins are a better unit of measurement because they measure what the plant uses, not what the human eye sees.

@KialChristopher
you can get them at hydro shops or online...sometimes called light hangers or light yo-yos...the ones featured here won't support more than 13 lbs or so...you can get some heavy duty ones though...they use cable instead of cord and have a stronger mechanism
hydroponicssecrets 1 year ago
I like all the little things on strings. For some reason it seems very futuristic. Maybe it's just all the silver. I was wondering if you built those led panels yourself or if they are a finished product you bought? If you built them yourself i have some technical questions about how you supply power to the LEDs. If not, then how much does something like that cost?
TheAstrogator 1 year ago
@TheAstrogator

Where is the trick ??
pitimatou 1 year ago
@pitimatou from what i understand an led is an led(is an led), but there are many many different manufacturers of LEDs(the individual diodes themselves). This may be where the big difference in price comes in. I could go to a reputable supplier of electronic components and pay a dollar each for a nice brand name diode that performs very well and has tons of documentation, or I could order straight from china and get mysterious, but ok, LEDs for a nickel each.
TheAstrogator 1 year ago
HPS will allways outgrow LEDs end of.
budzaholic 1 year ago
Another thing; why doesn't your co-worker urbangrower use LEDs? His room has nothing but HID lamps and people's medical grow ops he goes to use ZERO, none, notta, no LEDs. So yeah, this is the part where you try and save face. Hope you don't get fired...
luvmypit83 1 year ago
Also, there are no good LED lights. Cfls are more powerful and a fraction of the price! Nice try salesman, go find another profession, you suck :-)...

Don't buy advanced nutrients! Just use molasses and tiger bloom(fox farms)! AN are overpriced molasses water! I'm having trouble finding the other video...how much is the light?
YGEz892 1 year ago
I see you said the LED light will not penetrate tall dense plants...so is HPS the better light to grow with if I'll have both tall and short strains?
YGEz892 1 year ago
@YGEz892
that's correct, the 45 watt model featured won't penetrate too far into the canopy on bigger plants. feel free to check out my more recent videos on LEDs. An SG-1202 can penetrate further into the canopy than a 1K HPS...the initial cost is a barrier for some growers though.
hydroponicssecrets 1 year ago
What exactly are you looking for in an LED light? I already grow with HPS but want to try LED just for fun, however due to the price, I'd like to get somewhat descent return.
liteyouup 1 year ago
looking for sufficient intensity and the right balance of spectrum...quad-band units with diodes that are at least 2 watts can keep up with HPS lamps with 1/3rd of the power draw and almost none of the heat. With LEDs, you really get what you pay for. So far I have been very pleased with StealthGrow units for all phases including flowering and ripening, they deliver what they promise. Their SG602 can produce around the same yield as a 1K HPS...the 1202 model will blow a 1K HPS out of the water
hydroponicssecrets 1 year ago
since led don't have radiant light, shouldn't enviro temp be a few degrees higher than for an hps grow?
and you can start fermenting frozen juice wash, and add sugar on a daily basis to keep the co2 more even, and the yeasties happier.
cstavro 1 year ago
thanks, that's a great tip for keeping the co2 levels higher through the fermentation process; once "X" level is reached for alcohol content, it's time to replace the batch, as the alcohol will kill off the yeast
keeping the same temperatures is OK ie 75-85F with lights on, although to encourage a higher rate of transpiration if the temps are lower ie 75F growers can maintain the humidity levels lower ie 40% (vs 50-65%) with a de-humidifier.

mrgreenthumb007 1 year ago
the leds in this vid are great for veg, and mother plants....with cfls they are OK for flower (considering how little power they use and how little heat they give out). the quad band high output LEDs featured in my latest videos are as good or better than an HPS, and will blow any cfl out of the water....crappy LEDs shouldn't give ALL leds a bad name...there are some really good ones; it's just not as standardized from one to the next like hps, mh, cfl or t-5s are.
hydroponicssecrets 1 year ago
I would probably wait another couple of years will LED grow lights have advanced. They are an awsome concept, good from veg. But HID create the fat buds.
seanhiphop905 1 year ago
I think it's a cool setup, but I didn't like how he said you need florescent lights as-well and that the LED's don't penetrated large canopy tops, and are only good for small plants, but I do like that they are not hot, but I'm still not sold on these they are way to expensive just for small plants and you still need to install florescent lights too, seems good if you want small plants but not for anything with a big canopy.
superherbsmoker 1 year ago
the new generation of quad-band high output LEDs will penetrate thick canopies better than HPS; it's critical to have the right LED though...they are not nearly as standardized as HID lighting....so far the "bomb" IMO is StealthGrow's 1202 model...expensive though.

Ive done some research on LEDs, ive seen, the same brand, same model, fromdifferent sitss say that its 45 watts and 27 watts. So which is it? Also, what brand of lights are these?
MrKevMan 2 years ago
the ones in this video are "Glow Panel 45's", their actual wattage depends on 3 things: wattage of diodes, how many diodes, and how much the internal drivers power the diodes. rarely, are LEDs powered to 100% of their output. These panels are great for veg, seedlings, moms, clones, etc...they need a broader spectrum for flowering in some types of plants, that's why the CFLs were added. These are super efficient, although not incredibly intense.

LOL LOL !!!

do you always open your mouth without thinking LED's suck, narrow mind and little knowledge.
Check the facts first these LED's are small output in amount of lumens, these little leds do not produce enough lumens for a single light, but will help a lot for the colour spectrum.
Bigger leds are available which can compete, but are very expensive.

my pleasure. 6:1:1 sounds pretty good to me; much is still under research, so it's not easy to say for sure what the best ratios are.
if you can afford to, include some diodes that emit an amount of UV, as this has been noted to make a difference.
Overall, you should have RED, ORANGE, BLUE, and UV. white seems like a good idea too.
different light wavelengths are measured in Nanometers (Nm), this is how they rate the different diodes.please let us all know how it works out!

this one is "The Hydro Hut, Silver Edition".

We use aprox' 4, 50w blue panels per 1000 watt HPS, and 4, 50w red panels per 1000w halide light.

so what is a better light source LED or CFL's? now that u can get these t-5's in blue 450 and red 600's is it the same spectrum. or is there a differance other than consumption/ vs. lumen output. so ultimately what do u think is a better choice.
chev385 2 years ago
a tough question.
When you use LEDs, CO2 becomes cheap and easy; overall the growth is way more stealth with fewer fans needed.

you can believe whatever you want...I don't own a lighting company, so I have nothing to "gain" other than sharing what I have learned...it's more than anecdotal....my work is "peer reviewed" by over 100,000 growers every month from the various editions published throughout the world.
What do you want to bet that a 600W Quad band LED will out-yield a 600W HPS?
Let me know, maybe we can make it happen and we will see who's statements are lacking credibility...
hydroponicssecrets 2 years ago
You obviously have no clue what the definition of scientific "peer review" is and your claim that 100,000 people "peer review" your work each month demonstrates just how little credibility you have. That claim is a complete joke.
There's no unbiased study that shows a 600 watt quad band LED light will outperform a 600 watt HPS. The burden of proof is on the person making the claim and the balls in your court.
It is so painfully obvious that you have no scientific background.
agrajag46 2 years ago 2
There is not a single peer reviewed research paper that shows that a LED set up will get any significantly greater yield over HID lighting and in many cases will give less. This includes the research from NASA.
You claims about one of the "originals" growing and getting better yields is anecdotal and has no credibility.
Eric, you are making claims that you can not back up and this also shows in your magazine articles.

I wish I did! The only feedback I have had on a 600W LED was regarding a super-pro veteran HID grower (seriously, one of the "Originals" of indoor growing) who set up a 600W LED over a 5' X 9' area and yielded what 2 or 3 600 Watt HPS lamps would...without all the heat and noise mind you!

whats the disadvantage of using a 14 watt led panel/panels vs this 45 watt?
racedust 2 years ago
unless it's for very small seedlings, it won't be worth your time.
