  • nice how long did it take to make

  • It was a long term project around doing other projects as every piece of wood had to be seasoned properly. The next ones I make will be much quicker to make as I'll be using seasoned wood. I'll post a video or two giving the detail when I get the chance to make them. Colin

  • Thank you, it's plenty fast and strong enough for me. Have a look at the second video to see the finished bow.

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger i heard it isnt safe to fire wooden arrows from a compound bow?

  • These arrows were for one of my longbows so were under spined for this bow, as long as the arrows are spined correctly why not? You would find it difficult to find wooden shafts up to the job with some of the new super bows though.

    Colin

  • i liked the video but i disliked it just to troll :)

  • That'd be a hell of a target or 3 d bow since it has a long axle to axle.

  • Yes it's a very steady bow to shoot with a smooth draw. Still feels very short after years of shooting 78"-80" English longbows! I do need a long-ish bow to allow for a 32" draw shooting bare bow.

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger I'm no where skilled enough to make one, but I'd love to shoot one, just to say I did. Very good work, and I can tell your a very skilled bowyer.

  • Thank you, It's not so much skill as being able to recover from my mistakes! Seems you're on the wrong side of the pond to have a go with it, pity as anyone's welcome. If you haven't seen it, the second video shows more detail of the bow, might be of interest.

    Colin

  • That's some real craftsmanship right there

  • Thank you, if you're interested have a look at the second vid. for more details.

    Colin

  • wow thats amazing.. very nice.

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • You have way to much time on your hands if you made that

  • Not enough or I'd have a load more!

    Colin

  • your using wooden arrows on a compound bow?

  • your using wooden arrows on a compound bow?

  • lol im making a bow and all i have are two home made knifes..its not going so well

  • Stick with it mate, you'll get there in the end!

    Colin

  • Stunning bow nice workmanship

  • Thank you, there's 2 other videos of this bow if you're interested.

    Colin

  • That's bad ass

  • Thank you.

    Colin

  • BTW, what's the draw length and pull on that bow?

  • Thank you, I have a 32" draw, when I made the bow it was at 58 lbs. However due to a failing shoulder I've made new cams for it and it's now at 44 lbs. Fortunately it still shoots very well but the arrow speed has dropped to a little over 200 fps. You can see more details of the bow in the other clips about it on you tube.

    Colin

  • Awesome man, that baby is alot more quiet then most compounds I've fired:) Great job man!

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • Awesome shooting, That is an amazing compoundbow.

  • Thank you. The second video gives more details of the bow.

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger Okay i'll view it when youtube channel stop acting up.

  • Very nice bow!

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • You should make a how to

  • If you look at the second video of this bow I give some details. I will be making another compound in the near future and will probably make a series of videos explaining the "ins and outs" of compounds and the making of the new one. I don't know when I'll get around to it, but watch this space!

    Colin

  • WOW! EXCELLENT BOW !

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • HOW MANY POUNDS IS IT?

  • Right now it's 58lbs. peak, but a shoulder injury is making me reduce the poundage of all my bows, I'll be dropping this one down by 10lbs. or so soon. To see this bow finished and for more details, have a look at my other videos.

    Colin

  • THAT IS THE BEST HOMEMADE BOW I EVER SEEN NICE JOOB

  • Thank you.

    Colin

  • you rock dude!!!!!!^^

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • It looks too easy to pull back?!?

  • This was when the bow was first strung, I altered the brace height and cam timing after this which "upped" the draw weight and length (as seen in my other videos of it). I was mainly shooting English longbows at this time, one with a 63lb. draw weight, so a 58lb. compound with let off wasn't an issue anyway. However a bad shoulder has meant that I'm dropping the draw weights on everything I'm shooting now, including this one soon.

    Colin

  • you call it home made it looks pretty good:)

  • Thank you, my "home made compound bow 2" clip shows more detail

    Colin

  • Awesome that you can make one of those yourself.

  • Thank you, I'm getting ready to make another one soon.

    Colin

  • your fag

  • In England this would mean "your cigarette" or if you are posh it would mean "your gofor" in a public school. I guess it means something else where you come from?

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger Haha that's funny. Great bow!

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • very nice work

  • Thank you

    Coin

  • @theartfulbodger which coin??? lol

  • I must be getting older, all these comments are lost on me!

    Colin

  • man thats realy cool, i didnt think it was posible to make a homeade wooden compound bow. great job!

  • Thank you, I hope to start on another one in the near future.

    Colin

  • doo you have a guide how to make one? and i would also like to know how you make the arrow

    thumbed up and favourited

  • I made this bow as it went along so there are no plans for it. Since a number of people have asked will get around to makng a more constructive video at some point, but it won't be for a while as I'm short of time right now. Not sure what you mean by "and i would also like to know how you make the arrow thumbed up and favourited"

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger uuu i ment if you you could tell me how you made the arrow and others it means i liked the video and favourited it =]

  • I'd say 85 feet/sec. but very fast! :D

  • With 520 grn. arrows shooting off fingers it clocks 230 ft/sec. But I've just fitted needle roller bearings to the cams and it's shooting faster. So much so I need to get some higher spined arrows, the ones I've been using did need very fine adjustment from a button to get anything like a clean shot from them. I guess they were just about on the limit.

    Colin

  • Damn that looks really well made.

And you look like a BAMF shooting it.

You got the torso and facial features of a badass marksman.

  • Not sure if this a compliment or an insult?? I'll go for the former. I had a bit of a problem shooting the bow at this stage as I hadn't made the draw stops for the cams. I was in severe danger of overdrawing and shooting myself through the hand! After this video was taken I made the draw stops, drilled the cams out and made the propper string and cables for it. The torso and face I'm afraid I'm stuck with, can't send them back as they're too well used and getting a bit tatty!

    Colin

  • @theartfulbodger Oh no worries. Its a compliment. BAMF is a bad ass mofo.

  • In that case, thank you very much!

    Colin

  • How to make cams and cables system in home???Have you some scheme?

  • These are simple soft cams, round with the axel holes off set to give the let off. I have the tools to cast and machine them as I also do model engineering. The cables I made from fast flight string material.

    Colin

  • looks good!!

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • damn that's nice

  • Thank you

  • Nice!

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • Thank you

    Colin

  • very smooth action! Looks great

  • Thank you, it's very nice to shoot although a bit heavy.

  • dat is mad

  • wow thats amazing!! how long did it take you to mak? and what lb is it?

  • Thank you, if you click on the red tab which comes up at the end of the clip you can see another clip showing more detail of this bow. I was tryng to make my own fibreglass laminates but they all failed, fortunately a good friend in the U.S. sent me some bow tuff which did the job. All in all between failed limbs and waiting for the wood to season before making new ones making this was a gradual process over almost a year.

    Colin

  • good that you tried. How was the shooting experience with it ?

Is it possible to homemade a compound crossbow ?

  • @papaburger Now I've finally got it set up right, I'm still learning with compounds! It shoots very well. Although I'm more interested in actual bows, I will be making a compound crossbow sometime this year just for the hell of it!

    Colin

  • looks smooth

  • Fantastic well done!

can't wait to see the detail vid, Bring to the club too! would to see it for real!

    Matt

  • Thanks Matt, the bows finished so I'll get around to the detal vid, soon. Hopefully I'll get to Panthers before much longer, still having problems walking because of my foot though.

    Colin

  • nice work dude... how you make the limb? and how you attach the pulley?

  • Thanks, the limbs are made from 3 laminates of apple (almost all the wood in this bow I cut from logs), 1 tapered and 2 straight, with 60 thou. bowtuff glass laminates belly and back. The cams are in slots in the ends of the limbs and I have glued ash blocks on the limbs bushed with brass. A 6mm stainless steel pin goes through the bushes and cams. This video shows the bow "just assembled" for the first time, I'll add another detailed video for you when I get it finished.

    Colin

  • gheez... thanx dude.. u see, i've prob here in my country to get suitble wood. since people here are not selling hardware item with propper knowledge. the only thing in my mind is couple laye of bamboo laminated with fibreglass, is that ok in ur opinion. im making a compound crossbow here. hope can get some point from sifu like u. lol.

  • Bamboo is one of my favorite bow making materials, the longbow in another of my clips has tempered bamboo back and belly. It is very strong and durable, some woods might give slightly more cast, but it's a very good, reliable material to use. In the New Year I'll be making a flat bow using bamboo and glass. Give me a little time to get sorted out and I'll do a clip showing the detal of compound bow and limbs.

    Colin

  • It looks like you need some longer arrows or shorten your draw length otherwise looks good!

  • You're right, these are 32" arrows so it's down to shortening the draw. Todays job is to drill out the cams to lightem them up, I'll also fit some draw stops to them to solve my long arm problem! I've made the new fast flight cables and string, and am looking forward to seeing how it shoots with these and the lighter cams.
