Does anybody really believe he killed himself? Just like Gatti, everyone close to those two all say the same thing that noway either one of them who kill themselves. I don't know all the details about Alexis death but from what I've heard so far it seemed like a hit.
i find it very hard to believe that alexis arguello killed himself. he always seemd to have that big smile on his face and always a true gentleman. although he was a great champion and great guy, i'm sure there were a lot of sick people that wanted him dead because of his political beliefs. its a shame that his death was ruled a suicide!
I had the honor of meeting Alexis several times at boxing events in New Mexico. And with people all wanting to meet him and take pictures, and autographs, etc. He was patient and gracious with all of the fans. He'd smile and do what people asked of him. He was A great champion and a wonderful ambassador for boxing.
Unfortunatley, I don't have a poster of him. I have a picture he took with me and a great autograph hanging in my garage though. it's at my website. angelfire dot calm slash nm slash boxingmuseum
I hope you are safe Alexis, many people who got to know you, tell me the great person you were, I know that you wouldn't kill yourself, whoever killed you and sent you to death, these people will pay, they won't escape God's rage, may you have peace and happiness forever.
I met the champ twice and the second time he remembered me from three years previous. A kind, humble man he was proud of the fact that he lived in Canada for 2 yrs. working in tobacco fields in Ontario. The first time we met, when he found out I was Canadian he threw off his jacket and shirt to show us a tattoo of a Canadian Flag on his arm!! One of THE all-time greats!! Suicide my ass
Alexis and marvin hagler were my reason for boxing back in 83 84 and 85..These guys are very rare. There will never be another BIONIC man like ALEXIS ARGUELLO..I just heard about this a few days ago and I feel like I lost a mentor. He never knew how he affected a lot of people around the world. A PERFECT GENTLEMAN.. RIP MY FRIEND..
Alexis Arguello was the inspiration for many current champions. His Boxing instincts were unparalleled He was a true warrior and a world class gentleman and like you said very rare. Thanks and God Bless
I talked to him three times and play billiar.he was always smiling. I saw him in a supermarket the first time in 1992 he was broke and wearing a 99 cents shirt and jeans he was joking with the employees he was areally good person.
I was looking at Veron forrest and just found out about Alexis Arguello. Alexis was a great human being he also help Aaron Pryor kit his dope habit by bring him to his country where Pryor stay for a month to get himself together. Alexis God bless you Alexis and you also was a great Champion
"Greatest of all time"....so oftened used to describe but a few who have reached that plateau of magnificence. Alexis had not only reached it but was always encouraging even those that he had vanquished to never give up....that fortitude is rewarded with greatness.
Alexis, you will always be the true personification of dedication, honor, loyalty, and love for his fellow mankind. God bless you....you are home. Richard miller Mangarin
Alexis Arguello was truly one the greatset of all time.i remember watching his fights growing up,i thought he was fuckin` great! it`s tragic the sport had to lose a true legend like mr.Arguello.thank`s for the memories,R.I.P.
got dammm !!!sandinistas kill my horgullo nicaraguense alexis ,one of last great fighter to lived ,will be missed by all god bless hang those gloves high in sky peace brother............
White man from Canada....I cannot believe it either. Alexis Arguello is one fighter I always loved watching. He was a great fighter and a genuinely good person.
Current and future fighters take note:
Alexis was the epitome of class before, during and after each fight, but of course it was "during" the fight that we were in awe. RIP....a GREAT CHAMPION.
I watch the videos over and over again, I'M SO SORRY, I CAN'T BELIEVE ALEXIS IS GONNE!!! DAMN WHY? Next trip to Nicaragua I will go to his final place of rest , that is a MUST! Viva Alexis!
All I can say is that I am so sad, I have been watching most of the Arguello's fights, it hurts me so much, I have to give up watching him, he was a true champion, he knew how to fight . Sandinista or not, who cares! He is and always be my heroe!
I have to be honest and say that I got choked up watching this homage to Alexis. I hope that everyone that is a fan of his and of boxing will write/e-mail to ESPN and demand that during Hispanic Heritage month they showcase his fights. It is because of Arguello and other great Latin fighters that makes me proud to be of Latin decent. Muchas gracias mi campeon y decanse en paz.
I heard Alexis committed suicide, which I don't believe-The sandinistas hated Alexis, and I think these disgraceful sandinistas had to do with his death-I hope the sandinistas pay for everything they have done to the Nicaraguan people, these sandinistas are jackals-they are criminals and thieves-the sandinistas must go down for every crime they have committed- justice has to prevail in Nicaragua.
Great Fighter, one of my favorites ... I Hope to see this kinds of fighters this era ... ANd Also Hope **PPV* fight get set for 15 rounds like the old days.. Many of Arguellos Best victories came in the later rounds very few boxers can do that this days.
Ooooh, the good old days when boxing was a real sport, and not the shameless show that it is today. Fighters with the caliber of Arguello(RIP), Chavez, Sanchez, Leonard, Finito Lopez, Robinson, Hagler, Olivares, etc....will never, ever be seen again. Boxing is a declining sport and I'm sad to say so, but it's the truth. Now at days everyone fights everyone regardless of their age or weight, because it is all about money. These are the fights that I will show my first kid when he is born.
one of the best fighters to ever step in the ring and had the most class true Nicaraguan RIP well never be forgotten. "Heroes get remembered but legends never die"
RIP one of the best.. i had the honor to meet him last year in the De La Hoya vs Forbes fight, he was a gentleman and a great person, well educated and humble.
