He has an amazing voice, but what separates him from Donny (and other professionals) is the emotion felt from his performance, not so much the technical aspects. There is no doubt Nate has great mechanics and emotion, but it is just not at the level artistically that Donny's is.

It's too much like opera and less like a musical. I don't like that. I think it spoils it and it just doesn't seem as convincing. The emotions aren't brought across as well and it doesn't capture the attention of the audience as well. That is my opinion on it. Some won't agree but we each have our own opinions on what makes a good musical. The songs just don't sound right.

Nate sings this technically very well, but Donny sings it with a real passion and very good acting skill. Donny also sings it effortlessly. Amazing when you compare other Josephs to him. Donny was born for that part!

Don't forget though, Donny was in a movie and therefore he was on a recording. That means that he was in a studio with limitless tries to make it sound good. So regardless of how good a singer Donny is, you can't compare stage to film.

I spoke to him, and he believes he is a lyric tenor with a good low range. He's got acting chops too, so I can't wait for Albert Herring. If you live anywhere near Bowling Green, Ohio (south of Toledo) be sure to attend the performance on November 7th.

this joseph has a really good voice. it's not operatic. you're just not used to hearing vibrato. without vibrato notes have a tendency to go out of tune. vibrato keeps you in the center of the pitch. you just think it's operatic because he can project and he sings properly.
