  • poor Maggie!!!!!

  • As it says within the first 30 seconds of the video, she was already a Girl Scout, in a troop that was presumably working for her. They tried to move her to the special needs troop because they thought "that might be a better fit". They moved her out of a situation she'd adjusted to, into one she hadn't because they thought it might work better. You don't *do* that to someone autistic without a damn good reason. The Girl Scouts are not to blame here. Especially not as an organization.

  • We have to remember that there are many levels of "special needs" - not every child labeled with that has the same needs. Troop leaders are volunteers. The mom could complete leader training and become a volunteer and start a troop for autistic girls since she knows how to handle these situations. There's never a perfect answer for something like this. =/

  • Ran out of characters... I don't understand why the GS troop leaders didn't ask the parents if they had, or could look into TSS services for the girl. TSS people are there to help a child calm down and refocus. They focus on JUST ONE person, the child they are assigned to.

  • My son has Aspergers. I find this so sad for two reasons. I understand why the troop leaders were uncomfortable. Screaming and biting are not conducive to having a troop meeting. The parents really should have taken her outside the room and calmed her down. Her behavior could set off other children. I never let my son yell in public. We left restaurants, stores, parks and more until he could calm down. However, it IS a special needs group. GS should train troup leaders for this kind of troop.

  • or is it saying she cant go to the special needs girl scouts?

  • It would be hard on the girl if the leaders have no clue on how to care for a child with autism. Maybe the leaders dont know fully what autism is or what to do. There should be sort of training I think and also communication with the parents in helping her to adjust to to new situations.

  • WELL YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK THE GIRL SCOUTS

  • h t t p : // losangeles.cbslocal . com/ 2012/01/13/ ventura-girl-scout-14-calls-for-cookie-boycott-over-radical-homosexual-agenda/

Ventura Girl Scout, 14, Calls For Cookie Boycott Over ‘Radical Homosexual Agenda’

  • Girl Scouts are an NWO Organization full of paedophiles like Boy Scouts tied to the Tavistock Institute and old MK-Ultra.

  • this is wrong, after all i'm a girl scout,my brother has austim,BUT this just plain wrong.

  • from my point of view and autism child is very hard to handle and can be a very might hand full maybe they turn her down because they don't know how to deal with it .

  • @MsTreysongz1 but should negotiation between parent and the group and arrangement can be made first prior to completely reject the girl? Sure caring an autistic child is difficult but if the parent and the group can walk through bondaries or let parent or other trained people involve, it should not be impossible.

  • @jjbunny79 true i agree

  • @jjbunny79 I completely agree! Perhaps the child could have recieved TSS services?

  • To add to my comment. Autistic children need special care and a special environment. Her parents even say that their daughter can't communicate verbally and just screams. The mother needs to see out of her little world and realize that perhaps that kind of behavior might be disturbing and frightening to other children. Sorry, but they need to accept that their daughter is different. I think the Girl Scouts did the right thing, which is taking into account the well-being of all.

  • I don't understand why girl scouts as a whole is being criticized when it was clearly an individual troop that was involved. girls scouts shouldn't be thought of as a horrible dicriminatory organization based on the actions of one troop. i wouldn't agree with either side at this point though because we are getting a bias news report which clearly is in support of the family. not saying they're wrong but i think you would have to have actually been there to fully understand the circumstances

  • So transgendered boys are acceptable but girls with special needs is not? SHAME ON GSUSA!!

  • @lcccyndi The term you are looking for is "transgender GIRLS" Someone who is transgender does not identify as the gender they were assigned at birth. Trans girls are girls, not boys. They don't identify themselves as boys, so neither should you, because it isn't your place to identify someone's gender for them! This situation was obviously one troupe, as the GSUSA holds more inclusive values than that one troupe!

  • word hard to find the right group BULL they dont they use the girls to makea buck.

  • same here mine was kick out for being deaf

  • Not good news. I am really sorry for girl and parents. It is so sad. I have Asperger's, a mild form of autism. Maggie is a precious little girl; they had no right to kick her out of girl scouts. I would like personal contact from Maggie's parents.

  • That girl needs support. I am from the UK and I work for an organisation that provide extra curricular and social activities for kids and adults with special needs. This includes providing a support worker for a child to attend groups similar to girl scouts. This is part of what I do. I support 2 different girls at 2 different groups and we get on great. The leaders obviously aren't trained, but I am. Inclusion is so important. They need more of this in America.

  • This is so sad!

  • Am a GS leader and have had special aide girls. We reject no one. Everyone (14 girls) is equal & have no special treat. Asked moms to stay and help. In past 4 years, some moms decided that "my" troop is not for them. Sorry, we're volunteer moms trying our best to help our daughters do their best! Feel sorry for Maggie. Was a special aide troop? If leaders felt it was dangerous, was THEIR feeling, not the GS organization. Still GOOD news! Maggie can be a Juliette Girl Scout and go ANYwhere!

  • Fuck the girl scouts.

    (after they turn 17)

  • my son is autistic and i wouled be crushed if some one rejected him children with autizem are gifts they give you more love then any one else you will start to see the world from there point of view and your eyes open up to a hole new world they are a treasher to the world and to be treated as such shouled be a crime shame on the girl scouts sheme on them

  • get over it woman, there are more important things in life than brownies. good god!!!

  • thats sad poor child

  • more worry the genetics of the parents could absorb via osmosis (LOL).Simply tired of making special allowances for SPECIAL kids to lessen experiences for my own. Why should all the kids be held back by you extra special head bunter.

  • OH MY GOD! have you seen that DS she was holding?

  • @SheerHeartAttack74

The video says its for special needs girls....

  • it says in the video that it was for special needs children if you listen

  • but why have a girl scout troop for special needs children if you'lln kick one out for being anything then what she is.

  • @ShilohNative As a sibling to someone born with autism i find your comment very offensive. They went to this meeting because it was for special needs children only. Its sad to see your kind of discrimination is still alive today. Its your kind of ignorance that makes americans look bad. I bet your one of those kind who are scared to let someone with special needs hug you because you think they are "different". In my personal experience its the children who understand and respect special kids.

  • @ballstothewall1991 I have a sibling w/ austism, too. It's hard to cope with.

  • if there is a place where she could go where people are trained to deal with autistic kids, i dont understand why her mother would not want her to go there to be a girl scout.

  • @SheerHeartAttack74 WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND YOU A ASSHOLE

  • the same damn thing Happend to me with a Jiu Jitsu club here in town and they kicked me out over facebook because for the mier fact I was Autistic and they didn't want anything to do with me

  • She was sitting there screaming, biting herself? That's supposed to be acceptable behavior? and the other parents aren't worried about a girl screaming and biting herself flipping out and maybe harming one of their kids? She's autistic that doesn't mean she can't have a violent tantrum and hurt another child. Girl scouts made the right call. If they can't handle her than she is a danger. Not to mention her behavior would be disruptive to the other scouts.

  • As a parent, I feel the heart break of the mother, but as a home schooler who knows many Autistic kids. There is no normal behavior but biting is an issue that needs to be addressed; even biting yourself and it teaches the other special needs kids bad behavior.

  • Whatever happened to the Girl Scout Pledge? Don't they teach that any more?

  • Thats so mean

  • THE WAY THIS GIRL SCOUTS STAFF REGECTED THIS CHILD JUST BECUSE SHE HAS A DISABILITY WAS AND IS A DISCRIMINATORY AND DEPLORABLE ACT OF COWARDICE, PEOPLE BELONG TOGETHER AND NOT EXCLUDED. THIS IS TOTALY AGAINST MY BELIEFS OF INCLUSION!!!

  • @Champ675 she wasnt kciked out for being autistic she was kicked out because the staff couldnt handle her, maybe they should have done her wrong by keeping her in a place where she cant be taken care of properly i go to a private school with autistic children in it, if a kid is too severe they wont let them in not to be discrinatory because they dont have what it takes to properly take care of her

  • 'This is baby'. Meh? A lot of people get turned down for things. And why should they accept someone who will cause disruption to others, that is unfair to those who are not causing disruption. Don't shout 'WAAHHH THEY ARE DISCRIMINATIVE TO AUTISTIC CHILDREN WHO APPARENTLY HURT THEMSELVES!'. And if you're wondering, I am Autistic.

  • @TheFree33333 I believe that you need to do more research. Look up Juliette Gordon Low, who is the founder of the Girl Scouts. She, in fact, had a disability herself (hearing loss). I am a mother to a child with Autism & she is also in the Girl Scouts. The way the leaders of the troop handled this is a disgrace. Our troop has compassion. Something you should have but sadly you don't.

  • @1loca64 Hearing loss is not a mental 'disability'. Therefore, you cannot claim that it is the same.

I'm glad to hear your daughter was accepted by them.

I've been turned down for several things because of my autism, nonetheless I keep trying.

Maybe you are correct in my lack of compassion.. But, the world did not help change my views.

  • @TheFree33333 True hear loss is not a "mental" disability but she wasn't "typical" either. So my claim stands. We have had a rough go-around with our daughter (Congential Heart Defect & Autism) & we have faced alot of ppl who told us to give up on her. Which makes us fight harder for her. Maybe it's time for you to learn compassion so the world can see what Autistic ppl really have to offer.

  • My boyfriend was a scout and there was a guy who looked like he was slow and they still took him.

  • ...and this is why I'm thankful I was never accepted into Girl Scouts :-D

  • did she say "she likes being a brony" because there is an age requirement and a gender specification

  • That camp is for kids like her. Why can't she be accepted then?

  • @NightBeaglezz i know. that's just discrimination.

  • i wouldn't we are all the same so what if she is different i am different but im a girl scout i have been for year this is insane she shouldn't have been kicked out if i was this kids i would cry to death because u just wanna be normal and them rejecting you is insane

  • I'd kick her out too, she simply isn't normal, the other girls will rip her apart because she's so slow.

Rather than trying to force the integration of severely autistic children into normal society or trying to convince the developmentally disabled they're just as normal as other kids is just plain abusive because it sets the child up to fail with false expectations that life will always provide them equal opportunities, when clearly, they will always be seen as outcasts, same for gays like me.

  • @GayWorldOrder do you even know what its like to be autistic?so you can really say you would kick her out too you would be just as bad

  • @Poplover102

No I don't know what being autistic is like, but I know what being black and gay is like, prolly worse than anything that spoiled little autistic spazz will go through her entire worthless little life.

  • @GayWorldOrder well ur a disgrace to black and gay ppl every wer!

  • @ATReade

Clearly my 2000+ friends & nearly 500 subscriberz I got DISAGREE wit you.

    Pwnd U homophobic lil failfuck!!

  • @GayWorldOrder You are why america is trying to "remove" filthy niggers from this country. And butt fucking fags too. Sad thing is, I've never been against either - until I read your worthless, vile comments. Gratz, you've created a new racist. You should be hanging from a tree like in the old days. Keep this shit up filth, america might come to that again.

  • @anhonestword

You only expose your own true homophobic Obama-hating worthless racist white ass.

  • @GayWorldOrder I think you need to get a wake up call. This girl was in a troop for special needs kids and they did this to her. She has the same rights as the other special children to be there. The leaders handled this wrong. I suggest you watch the video again and get all your info right before you post again.

  • @1loca64

Sorry, I don't take orders from dirty female liars. Your comment is rife with masochistic dominance like a pushy lesbian. Clearly you're a man-hater, but its YOU who needs a wake-up call... men live on your planet too, you can hate men or tell us what to do, but without any clear authority, you will get nowhere in life trying to do so, you dumb little female worm.

  • @GayWorldOrder Watch you're god damn mouth. This person was defending a special needs child, not spouting bigotted hatred as YOU are doing. Do not attempt to use this topic as a platform to spout your own filth and hatred, accusing another ofdoing what YOU are doing. You have a twisted and diseased brain, and soon your kind will die off by way of natural selection. Until then, mind your god damn self. And I'm not a woman. But this garbage is getting old. Soon your filthy country will end.

  • @anhonestword

Calm the fuck down, change your bloody maxi pad and go take your PMS meds, you dirty old female whore.

  • @anhonestword wow youre a bigger piece of crap than @gayworldorder .. you are disgusting

  • @GayWorldOrder You're a sorry excuse for for a human being. 1st off, I'm a married Lady of 14 years to a wonderful man who treats me like a Princess. You clearly don't know who you are messing with. 2nd, I am a mom to a special needs child. So I DO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Nothing I said was a lie. Who the hell do you think you are calling me those names. It's pretty clear to all of us now that you're lower than pond scum & your parents didn't do thier job to raise you right. Punk.

  • @1loca64

I must have struck a chord to get you all riled up with your panties in a bunch over such a trivial remark!

But based on your self-pompous, homophobic racism and utterly uncalled for ballistic spasm, I'd sure as heck hate to be the lil unlucky "special needs" bastard born from your dirty loins, the way you rage on and on against me, makes me half wonder if I shouldn't be calling Children Services Division to pay you a visit?! You're no "Princess," you're just a washed up old drunk Lady.

  • @GayWorldOrder Go for it punk. All you do is talk out of your butt. Everything you type makes no sense at all. I, for one, am not old, nor do I drink. And now I'm about to stop being lady-like and tell you that your a prime example that your daddy should've pulled out.

  • @GayWorldOrder did you pay attention to the video?!?! It says it was a troop for special needs children, wake up call..... autistic children are special needs children! They didnt just walk into a " normal" girl scout meeting.

  • And they get government funding?

  • when I see this, it kinda gives me the feeling that some people's sight on autistic disorders haven't moved a bit since the time when "Rain Man" hit the streets

  • I've been a girl scout since daisies til the end of high school. To hear this makes me angry, troops are supposed to welcome all girls to their units and she was only injuring herself from the sound of it. I think they leaders were being assholes cuz they didn't know how to deal with a child autistic. But to say that they can't come back and not even try to work with her to understand her is wrong! And against all that the Girl Scouts stands for!!

  • she is adorable! people seriously need to cut them from slack, especially saying that she was an indangerment. there is nothing that she can do, especially since she is non verbal, its something she cant control. people seriously never give people or kids with autism respect and look at them as someone who needs alil more help than others

  • This video doesn't tell the whole story. While the council can't talk about it (legal issues), I know that GS was trying to work with the family to find an appropriate troop for Maggie. Her behavior did disturb and upset the other girls in the troop and ruined the experience for them. Many of them also have special needs and their needs are just as important as Maggie's. If they really want GS, they need to give the council a chance to find another troop that would better fit Maggie's needs.

  • @freedomnun tht is mean I'm a girl scout ya we sell cookies soo what there good cookies!!

  • It seems like there is more to the story tahn what they told us.

Does the girl scouts have someone who knows how to handle autistic children?

The girl scouts are usually of moms (and some dads) and they may not know how to handle an autistic child.

Instead on going on the news about this why doesn't the lady make a girl scouts for the autisitc?

  • @disturbedpark543 bcuz ppl not in just girl scouts discriminate ppl with autism and we r trying to make an end to it thts y

  • @disturbedpark543 It's a special needs group... you'd think the people would be trained!

  • GIRLS SCOUTS SUCK!!!!! Who gives a shit about what those snotty bitches think....you need to talke your daughter to an organization that is more artisitic and excited by differences...Maybe you should make one??....

  • I have autism and the cub scouts couldn't wait to kick me out. Very elitist bunch in general

  • Seriously people, being a Girl Scout is not a right, it's a privilage. It is a private club run by troop leader volunteers. If you don't like your troop leader, or your troop leader does not like your child -- just start your own troop. Just that simple.

  • I had a Autistic Girl in my troop before and now girl with aspergers and we always had fun with them..

  • why dont you become a leader and make your own troop. doesnt matter if you only get two or three girls. its still a troop. i was a leader for both of my daughters and a boyscout leader for my son because no one wanted to do it.

  • It is a volunteer organisation. The leaders aren't fully trained teachers or therapists. They are usually other mums or dads doing the best they can. They could have done a better job perhaps in giving it more than one night trial and asked the parents to stay and help out. Don't be too hard on them...2 sides to every story.

  • Odd. My troop was always supportive of my autism.

Whoever was in charge of that troop is a disgrace to Girl Scouts as a whole.

  • first im a caregiver in Florida and i work with my fellow humies that have special needs. My questions are does the child have a caregiver to sit through the meeting with her? 2 is this girl beautiful as she is aggressive or sib in anyway? 3 is she prone to seizures and are the people there trained to respond? If your there with your child to keep her on task bravo i would accept her and let her inspire compassion however if your not there then ya they should ask you to keep her home.

  • While reprehensible, this is not surprising considering the Boy Scouts openly discriminate against homosexuals.

    /watch?v=M5I01DF0g1w

  • According to JSOnline, in Waukesha, WK, she had a troop by December 2008. Just google search Magi Klages girl scouts to see article "Girls Scouts Find Room for Autistic Girl"): "For those who wondered if Magi Klages, 8, had a future in Girl Scouts, there's news....It looks as if she's a Brownie again, thanks to her former troop leader, Dina Johnston, and the Scout organization."

  • Hehe, if it was an autistic boy the camp scouts would be falling over eachother to accept that little dude... who's to know what happens in the sleeping bag after during those oddly long camping trips... but hey, he was accepted.

  • People should respect autistic people. How do I know because I too have autism.

  • thats terrible, just cause shes different. Seriously, THIS is the reason why brutally right-wing aspie supremacists slag off NTs on sites like wrong planet or aspies for freedom. Situations like this one make NTs look bad.

  • This is stupid! I do not have autism but know a lot about it. I heard the word, and was anxious to find out what it means, and so i did! When i saw this, i just cried. They should let her be in girl scouts no matter what!

  • Too bad. Girl Scouts could have really helped this child with social exercise, but this child would have taught the leaders and the Girl Scouts a thing or two: patience, compassion, and understanding.

  • it's called discipline

  • I'm autistic, and i really struggle to understand how someone gets angry at me and when they explain to me why i'm like #### sorry sorry could somebody help me to understand people better

  • It's been my own person experience through life, that if you have too many women under one roof, there will be drama. I'm not being sexist or making any prejudgements, I'm just stating my general observation.

  • There is only one solution:

    DEATH TO THE GIRL SCOUTS!

  • @Dafoodmaster Not true!

  • @lovingdana02 fair enough

  • The ACLU sticks there nose in other human violation rights, where are they now????

  • I have aspergers and i was in girl scouts in a regular troop and the first and last leader i had did everything they could to help me be able to participate. All the other leaders that i had in between those two didn't do much to help me and even let the other kids bully me.

  • This story breaks my heart, this poor precious child.

  • @multisnootyundead Not as ugly as your soul.

  • i too have an autistic daughter and i will NEVER buy another cookie again !!!!!!!

  • This VIOLATES her rights to be a girl scout!

  • that's stupid. this is girl scouts, not the military. if she was behaving badly, maybe they would have a reason not to allow her in, but just because she has autism is not a reason.

  • I second inkwish. They should have training on treating her condition. Most kids with her condition is a harm to themselves than others.

  • OMG I used to bite myself when I'd get upset or when I was in new situations. Ps. The also think I might be an aspie

  • When I was in girl scouts I got bullied and the kids made fun of me. I know how it feels to get into trouble for things you dont mean to do, and always seem to get in the most akward situation... beleive me I know...

  • @MyDragonfli girl scouts is supposed to be about doing good in the community. it sounds like you were in a "clique" instead.

  • americans, whenever they get on tv they cry, WHY START CRYING WHEN YOUR ON TV!? but oh noooo! "my girl can't join girl scouts WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" fuck them! theres loads of other stuff your girl could do! there's no need to cry over that!

  • @louiscarr899 i think your missing the point, autistic children feel excluded enough she should have the same rights as all the other girls in the troop.

  • @pathic1 i agree on all levels with you but why cry? i'm sure that even before the news heard about this incident that the parents might have had a little cry or something and gotten over it a bit but when the spotlight is on them; there they go! either its supposed to get the message across more effectively or they want to be remembered on tv for that 3 minutes of fame they will get, i don't understand. thanks anyway for the polite response, and i apologize for my seemingly angry comment

  • @louiscarr899 i understand what your saying but on the other hand my wife sometimes crys when we see "typical"children out in public.having an autistic child is very hard and i dont really think they were trying to shine a spotlight on themselves by crying. i think its its just a natural response to the situation.

  • POOR LITTLE GIRL!!!!! I wanna kill those gril scout leaders! THAT'S UNFAIR!!! She acted like any normal autistic kid would in a new situation! THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My nieghbor's autistic, so I know what it's like.

  • wow. Im so sorry for your little girl. Thats pathetic of them. They accepted her into the group. They should have taken more interest and learned about autism and how to make it work for your child. Excluding an autistic person is the exact opposite of what they should be doing to help her! My son is almost 4 and has autism. He doesnt have any friends and its really hard to watch him not being part of the other kids playing. I would be doing the same thing you are right now. News, media.

  • I understand the Girl Scouts, i mean if u see a child screaming and bitting herself an covering her ears, tell me you wouldn't be worried about the safety of your child or the safety of the other kids

  • @Sausageman666 ur the second ignorant idiot I've seen post today, and probably won't be the last

  • @Sausageman666 Obviously if they would have looked into her condition they would have learned how to deal with such behaviour. And there is no such threat to the other kids, only to the child herself! Poor girls was biting herself she was so nervous.

  • @Sausageman666 please edjucate yourself, soon there will be more of us then you.

  • @Sausageman666 U ASSHOLE U DONT UNDERSTAND I DO IT IS HARD

  • THATS FRICKEN MEAN JUST BECAUSE THIS CHILD IS AUTISTIC DOESNT MEAN SHE CANT BE IN A GIRL SCOUTS!!

  • THATS FRICKEN MEAN

  • My son is autistic and has a dificult time in social situations, so he wears headphones to quiet out the sounds. It lets him cope with circle time and group activities.

  • I am a leader of brownie and junior Girl Scouts. I would take her in my troop.Their is nothing wrong with this child. The leaders that would not let her be in their troop need some common sense. The leaders need to be reminded that the troop is the girls troop not the leaders troop. I have heard of some sad stories, but this is the worst so far. I do not know where you and your family live. But she would be welcome in my troop. familieshavingfun@aol.com Mom of many in Texas.

  • i am also one of the autistic people but very little

  • I would buy 10 boxes of cookies from this girl! Her parents should SUE!

  • aren't the GS kind of christian, good old christian morals

  • it is worng 2 do tht 2 a Girl Scout n i shold kno cuz i hav speachial need n tht was not rite 4 then 2 do i feel tht u shols sue tht Girl Souts.

  • my sisters austistic and the mom shouldnt be so upset there new to autistic kids they were scared that she would indanger herself & the others or could possibly tell the parents she getting abused idk but she shouldnt worrie. theres tons more things in life

  • @Blobzii360 they aint annoying atall they just cause people to fell slightly distressed when something wrong happens

  • i cant belive this! i am a young leader at my scout group and my brother is at the high end of the autistic spectrum and yet he comes to scouts when he's not at his restbite and he is fine and no other leader is trained with autistic kids and yet he is more than welcomed even after he kicks off.

  • @Blobzii360 Many nuerotypicals are really annoying too, but they can help it.

  • @BassTKD826 But they choose to make stupid comments like that instead.

  • Oh man girl scouts was horrible for me and I don't have Autism... I just have ADD/ADHD and Bipolar. I joined when I was 7 and unfortunately got put into a troop run by two sisters who both had daughters in their troop and they were so mean. One of the girls broke my sash the day we received our uniforms and the other was always slapping me and pushing me and I would end up crying and go to the Leaders but they yelled at me and I just quit after that.

  • Call AMERICAN HERITAGE GIRLS - This organization is THE REAL ALTERNATIVE TO THE GIRL SCOUTS! They do not discourage children diagnosed with autism. The Girl Scouts allow sodomite females to lead troops and be involved with our daughters, but reject precious special needs children. The girl scouts are no longer the girl scouts.

  • I was girl scout for about 10 years and myself have what's called apraxia and ADD. The troop I was in the leaders helped me when it took me longer. The other girls were kind. Because of girl scout's I was able gain the social skills that I lacked. If the troop that this girl tried join did not let her then it is not a real troop. The leaders say it is special needs but it is not. This wrong!! This is not what girl scouts is.

  • Girl Scouts, no matter what they say, is an exclusive club where the members only accept who they want to accept.

When I was little, I wanted to join the Girl Scouts...but then I got stuck in a troupe that treated me like crap, and wouldn't even let me participate in troupe events because we weren't able to buy my uniform yet.

So yeah, needless to say, I quit the Girl Scouts...and am probably better off for it.

  • Those who challenge the beautiful, whose victims have suffered in vain, shall have their retribution be rewarded.

  • I've now officially lost my trust in Girl Scouts. First, our family payed lots of money to join, but the Girl Scout thing never called us, so they basically robbed us. The second time i tried to join, I wanted to join to socialize and meet new friends, but all they wanted me to do is sell their cookies. All along I just wanted to get some more friends, but they wouldn't allow that.

  • @SerenitytheDragonair Yeah...GS is definitely NOT for families that don't have disposable incomes. lol

  • @angelix Well said. That is my lesson of the day. ^_^

  • I'm sorry to hear about how they treated this poor girl. They should know that people with autism are not usually violent.

  • @gypsymarika perhaps your right. I sometimes forget that most people dont step back from a situation to look at it logically to avoid the most heartache.

  • appalling. i spent a lot of time in guides, the UK equivalent of girl scouts. the leaders i worked with were pretty ignorant of special needs, but they didnt stop people from joining us because of it, they found a way to work around the problems, even though they didnt really understand! all i can say is i hope the leaders who did this are thoroughly ashamed, and have since moved on to work for something they are gifted in!!

  • What must be understood is Girl Scouts is a volunteer based organization. Girl Scouts train volunteers but in the end the actions of volunteers cannot be assumed to be the actions of the organization. As a sophmore in high school who is a voting board member on the Board of Directors for my council I can say that we do not think that discrimination is OK in the least. I don't know the specifics of this girl's case but contact someone at GSWISE and I'm sure they can answer any questions you have.

  • This girl was eventually allowed to attend another troop. The girl scouts maintain that the troop she was kicked out of was for girls with brittle bone disease.

  • This girl has the strangest eyes ive ever seen. They are exactly like a cats pupils. I think there is a very close connection to autism and spirituality in these children.

  • I am a woman with Autism.

While I was in Girl Scouts, it was the worst time of my life.

They were training us to dance for their "sock hop" and the leaders were very, very mean to me because I couldn't master the steps.

They were unbelievably cruel and I never forget how nasty they were.

Also, lots of bullying took place.

    And favoritism.
