I never understood the greatness of wings in this game. why do the major characters have it and why can't they fly. What do the wings symbolize? How did they get the wings?

its supposed to symbolize the strenght of the heart.

they all get wings when they are born, but they can't show them if they don't believe in the heart or just aren't strong enough.

in the modern age of this game people aren't as strong as in the past, which is why they can't fly long distances (or use magic too), their hearts get tired really quickly.

Can I ask why they summon them in battle, do they serve any actual importance in battle?
