  • Just discovered your channel, very nice!

I am actually doing a playthrough of this game :D

  • i just bought this game. i have been wanting to play this for years and have never saw it around. i am very excited.

  • a very good RPG. I have part 1 and 2 cant wait to play Third birthday.

    played this back in 98.

first game took place in some parts of Manhattan (NYC)

  • holy fuk your intros are long

  • I played the game after watching this review and finished it ... And I agree with your review all the way .. Its a great formula for a game and I would add that the "hot spots" are horrible . Some times I had to be pixel perfect to open a door or too find something. Also the fighting locations are too small. You can use the system to grind fast and get max Bonus points with some enemies. My rifle had more power than rocket launcher at the end but i only found 2 long rifles :(

  • @resistanceunion And the final thing that I found funny and kinda Ironic is that Scientist / Sceptic Richard Dawkins was mentioned in that game .. Its kinda ironic because he is anti pseudoscience yet the game is full of that and paranormal shit.

  • none taken

  • prude

  • I was 9 the first time i played this game and i loved it ! lol btw is there still a third version of this game coming out ?

  • @KYRAS123987 It already came out. It was called "The Third Birthday" and it was for PSP and received almost nothing but negative criticism. Apparently it is a PE game in name only and the plot and voice acting are terrible and difficult to follow. It LOOKS good graphically, but that's about the only positive thing I read on it. I'm in no rush to play it.

  • @AkewsticRockR Smh , and i couldn't wait for this game to come out . Why would they put it on PSP , who still plays with those ?

  • @AkewsticRockR i was planning to get the third birthday, but if its as bad as you say it is, i thank you for keeping me from making a mistake

  • @AkewsticRockR classic game room gave it a possitive review

  • @AkewsticRockR actually if you already havent played the game its pretty good i guess its a PE game but third birthday is pretty good seeing as how its for psp

  • The movie was actually just BASED of the book. And the game was a sequel to the book. Not the movie.

  • lool endosymbiotic *coughs* venom, carnage *cough*

  • awesome awesome awesome awesome... game

  • im 4 min into the review/retrospective, and you are sooo good. you are informative, interesting, articulate, funny, and overall very entertaining. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do more reviews. you have a very good style. im hooked

  • hey mother fucker dont dis the soundtrack

  • "Horny stupid young males"

    Hey! I resemble that remark!

  • Comment removed

  • @KyeEnzoden It's 3 months since you posted that but actually PE was based on a movie which was based on a novel by Hideaki Sena. Haven't read the book nor seen the movie though.. : )

  • @KyeEnzoden Oh I'm sorry I didn't watch the whole video before posting that! : (

  • @Re1Mu2R3

t'is ok, but what do you mean exactly?

  • please gods! no movie!!! when a live action movie comes out for any game....it sucks, just look at RE.......nothing like the game...and silent hill......wtf? can't they ever stay true to a story line??

  • please gods! no movie!!! when a live action movie comes out for any game....it sucks, just look at RE.......nothing like the game...

  • geez, you sound like anything that tries to have any kind of sex appeal is a bad thing. as far as the nude art work goes its farm from tasteless.

  • you pasted your imag infront of the irate gamer thats not funny miely cyrus rulz u gaiz!!! irate gamer rocks agvn. bill cosby has a good show justin bieber needs respect! just kidding none of those are true exept the 2nd one i acually got irate gamer to reply to my meseges

  • god i hate opera....

  • i didnt think the opera was painful to listen to at the time......

  • The Third Birthday is looking fantastic! Thanks to that and your excellent retrospective, I am going to pick up the first 2 Parasite Eve games in preparation for it. BTW, I hear 2 is mediocre (getting it anyways!), but is it really that bad, or do RPG fans just hate survival horror games?

  • Notice its only men being burned to death.

  • Is this supposed to be satirical?

  • Get the Silent Hill director to do the movie. Also the game actually follows the novel as the backstory instead of the movie.

  • Favorite game when I was young! Can't wait for 3rd birthday to come out.

  • @Degazio Assuming it ever does with how many delays it's had.

  • @AkewsticRockR

Yeah that would suck.. I'm sure that it'll release in Japan anyway. Here's hoping for an eventual translation if it doesn't show up in English speaking countries.

  • Excellent job on the review!

I always loved Parasite Eve. A lot of gamers didn't (it was too much RE for the RPG fans, and too much RPG for action/survival horror fans) but the game is exactly what Squaresoft advertised it to be..."A Cinematic RPG".

I do kinda wish you had touched on the EX game, but considering the maddening layout of the randomly-generated floors inside the Chrysler building, I can understand why you wouldn't wanna go back there (lol).

  • Funny coming upon this as I have just played through PE 1 again for the second time since I originally bought it. I playing the EX game now, and if you do the Chrysler Bldg it is still quite challenging. Just found the movie today in the used bin of a video store and snatched it up quick. In fact I'll be watching it right after I watch you other review. Thanks for the memories.

  • No nothing big at all THE END OF THE WORLD LOL at that

  • i got many things out of this review....

memories of the glorious days of gaming from the 90's

reemerging feelings of wonder and excitement

the irresistible desire to add another 40 hours of PE1 gameplay to my memorycard

    annnnnd....

the need to find myself a copy of that picture with eve biting aya's ear.... .... .... <3

  • 4:30 Xmen and TMNT. Speaking of Parasite Eve. It takes place in NY. That's Ninja Turtles turf LOL

  • Great great video, thanks ; D

  • wow totally better than i expected good job. i agree completely with everything except i kind of felt diapointed with the ending of the game. I am playing thru it again now after many years.

i also agree it would make a good film if done right.

  • The battle system in this game reminds me a whole lot of the combat done in Vagrant Story.

  • Lol. That made my day.

  • LMAO I can see the movie poster now that was fucking hilarious!

  • I discovered this review shortly after I uploaded my own PE review. I must say, a very good review this is.

  • I think it's pretty cool how the two of us seemed to focus on completely different aspects of the game. I didn't even make mention of the weapon customization aspect but you talked about it for two minutes.

Good job on yours, as well.

  • Final Fantasy + Resident Evil = Reeses Peanutbutter Cups...

  • I can be at times, yes, but don't take it the wrong way, nobody's perfect and we all have many things to improve on - including me. I can be really blunt when my intention is merely to offer suggestions for self-improvement.

I have found that people who have honestly expressed their views to me are the people I respect and trust most in my life. I have no time for bullshitters.

  • Are you aware that you have a VERY NASAL VOICE.

  • At 3:14 he sounds like kermit the frog. The narration is good, but the sound is a little comical. I would suggest having someone else do your future narrations if you ever get famous.

  • Comment removed

  • no offense taken.

  • funny, I have the strategy guide for this, but not the game.

  • this game was cool, i remember beating it the first day.

  • when i was 13 i got this game for christmas. i put it in turned it on and was all like hell yes! then i got to the rat part and it scaredthe shit out of me. so i took it back to k-mart and got ff7. man i wish i had stuck with that ga,e. i've got another copy now and i'v played through it about 4 time now.

  • Old Resident Evils are awesome o.o and the gameplay of both PE1 and 2 are very addictive and unique to me.

  • "Catered to young, stoopid, horny, teenagers..."

    DINGDINGDINGDING! We have a winner!

I think most of the artwork from the later FF games is aimed at the same demographic, it just isn't as honest about it as PE

  • I still think the first picture in this video is priceless.

  • simple way to put the movie plot:this dr. guy, lost his wife, he studies tiny microbes that control poeple. he then turns his wife, into an evil monster, that kills peopel, and crap, cuse he brougth her back form the dead. she isn;t a zombie, shes controlled by the micros.

  • This game was the shit. I also was terrified of that scene where that rat mutates as a kid, though I was younger than 15, I must have been only 11 or 12 and now compared to other horror games I've played, its' nothing. This was definately one of the most overlooked games on the Playstation, however, I found over the years that a lot of people really did like it, even if it didn't get the attention that it deserved.

  • If you loved the game and want more of a story about eve, check the book out its great. I didn't even know the game was based off of a book until recently.

  • I used to have Parasite Eve II, that game was hard. I'm currently playing this game (which I never beat) and this is still great, (along with the FF7 ORIGINAL) but I disagree with the opera singing, in the openning sequence. I think also "THE THING" could have been the inspiration of that scene where the dog (Sheeva) transforms.

  • isn't midochondrea (or whatever) the stuff that turns people into jedis?

  • midichlorians.

  • No dude those are midichlorians......Mitochondria are REAL and you have them in your cells. Come on man

  • the aligator thing probibley has no eyes because it has evolved byond the use of them and use diferent mees sense

  • I just got this game today for my emulator.

  • this game rocks really rocks, this game and final fantasy 7 was the last cool games ho square soft/square enix made

  • i love this game...

  • i liked this game i played it whn i was a kid

  • When I first saw those guys catching on fire, I also thought that was part of the play, and when he jumped onto the crow, I was like "WTF?" Seriously, that was cool. I never got the chance to play the first one. Now I can't find it anywhere. So, my options are to download the converted version for the PSP, or to download the ISO image and play it using an emulator.

  • Where's Parasite Steve? I love the first Parasite Eve but number 2 is as what the Irategamer would say "what a piece of cowabunga-shit"

  • I love you.

  • I use to have this game, but I was like 6 so I was scared as shit to play it, so we soled it at a yard sale. Know I'm 13 and I really regret sealing it!

  • You shoulda sold it to me man. I was 16 when I played this game (now I'm 26). I appreciate even a new generation have taste on good classics

  • I know, I love Classics, even if I am 13. Cuz, well I was born in the ps1 and N64 era. Like movies and music, people like the games they grew up with.

  • 08:45 Reminds me of The Thing.

  • I love them. Great vid.

  • yes aya brea is the main character and the bad villain is parasite eve.

  • wow i love this character ada brea the girl is very beautyfull

  • You mean Aya... Aya Brea. By the way The Irategamer should review this game!!!!! That would be fun listening to him cusing at this game. I love this game though

  • I only played PE2, it was good and hard

  • Parasite Eve 1 & 2 were 2 of the best PSX games ever made

  • I like this video. yes I think Aya did porn before joining the N.Y.PD. thas why she has some naked pics

  • psp sequel in the making :D

  • Ive been wondering that was i played this game when i was like 4 i probably had more fun then but it was fun

  • yeah I can't wait for the 3rd

  • 753ЦЙУ32П56Е-Щ 9Е6ЪБЬИМ

    ПАМЧ=ЪХ=00ШГН

  • zomg guys, he knows cool symbols he's cool.

  • this game was so hot!!!!!1 i forgot all about this!!!! dope video!!

  • I have to correct you on your analysis of the game play style (ATB) as "not that innovative". This was an extremely new style of play at the time of release that didn't come about again (as I recall) until FFXII. This was a really good game in it's day.

  • The ATB was introduced in FFIV and was in FFV and FFVI so it wasn't all that new. Yes Square invented it so I guess you can still call it innovative but considering it had been in so many titles before it it was not. Awsome game thought. Cannot wait for the third one (only if it is good that is). .

  • Star Ocean 1 <.<

  • there making a PE for psp, they haven't forgotten about it (:

  • ya its called the 3rd birthday or somethin like that... its in game informer

  • So this game really is that great after all, sucks only PE2 came out in Europe. .___.

  • no it came out in the us

  • I knew that, but I guess I made a mistake so it sounded like I thought it only came out in Europe.

I meant that Parasite Eve 1 never came out here, which is a shame. .___.

  • Do you have a PSX (PS1)? Is it modded?

  • I have a PS2 Slim, which I modded, but I never really make use of the mod.

  • You can play modded psx games on it, right?

  • Yup, I could burn PE1 to a disc, already did that with Chrono Cross, but I never play it.

  • I was going to ask you if you knew you can burn games, but looks like you already knew. ^_^

  • when i saw that rat transform, all i could think of is the T virus from resident evil.

  • I have this game

  • Dude you're the fucking man!

  • Top notch reviewing skills!

  • Now for my useful contribution.

Parasite Eve was beautiful, storyline, fmv's, Aya nude... wait... what?

In a way it falls into the survival horror genre, but it is in fact in a genre of its own.

A very deep and refreshingly innovative game.

Albeit a bit short and linear.

  • I was going to be witty and say the croc had evolved super sense of smell... but I decided to be ULTRA witty and say that it's "shocking" sense of taste has evolved to where it can tell the distance of something through tasting it through the air. :P

  • That opening scene with the audience burning up... just plain genius.

  • It's hilarious watching this because, having actually played the game when I was younger, I had practically the same response to it. "Oh, okay. This is really bor--HOLY CRAP!"

  • so...when next part of Retrospective comin =)

  • It's already out, and the links are both in the description, or you can click on the link directly underneath the video.

Unless you're asking about the next retrospective. That's going to be on the Soul Reaver game for PSOne, and it'll be out in hopefully less than a month.

  • thanks ^_^ U should do a review on a Resident Evil game (that's hopefully not 4) if you played the games even if the controls are unrealistic o.o

  • I'm not really looking to do reviews of mega popular titles.

I prefer the more obscure, underappreciated games.

  • ah, well there are good obscure games out there ^_^

  • I would LOVE to hear what you thought of Soul Reaver!

  • When I saw that rat transform, I was nine. It scared the shit out of me! Now it's awesome. =D

  • PE is probably favorite series ever. Your review cracks me up! Awesome job. <3

And on one more note: the production art also attracts horny lesbians. :D

  • I love PE!!!! It is a rather great game... I agree with the awesome music they've put in this game and the monsters are sometimes just plain creepy when they transform. XD

  • In the UK is Parasite Eve an 18?

  • You just brought back many childhood memories, sir.

    -90s child-

This was probably my favorite game, next to FFVII and ... Meh, some others.

    xD

I think I'm going to bust out my old Play Station.

    Thank you, sir. x3

  • those art pics gave me a boner

    :)

  • Aw man, you forgot to mention how high Aya's butt sits compared to her front. XD But you're so right about the synthed voice. I have to mute the game whenever I play it now because I can't STAND the songs Eve sings in. I was spoiled by the CM versions.

  • her name is pronouced A-yah

    not I- yah

  • Srsly, man?

"In the name of all things frivolous, I will leave a comment arguing the pronunciation of a fictional character's name that never is audibly spoken in the game. It has next to nothing to do with this review, but I have a medical condition where my head is firmly lodged in my rectum, so I must assert my opinion as superior."

You're wrong, or at least there's an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting MY pronunciation. Google it.

    Then, stop being a douche.

    Maya - M = Aya.

  • Right, and Maya is pronounced May-ah

so Aya would be pronounced A-yah

and if how cute that you would put in a personal appearance for the one comment that disagrees with you. Regardless the truth is either of the pronunciations are correct.

You should really try keeping that attitude in check.

  • Ah, so you weren't looking for a reaction from me when you posted that comment, eh?

No. That's clearly not it, or you wouldn't have posted on something so incredibly insignificant to begin with.

You got the reaction, and now you don't like it, so obviously I'M the one in the wrong now, huh? Funny how that works.

If the truth is that either pronunciation is correct, than the facts are quite simple here: you were wrong.

  • Now, on the subject of my attitude:

I'm willing to bet that if you spent 40+ hours (between playing the game, writing the review, designing graphics, and editing the video) you probably wouldn't appreciate some no-name schmuck (who has the username of a character from the most over-rated game in history) leaving a comment about how you mispronounced something.

But I see, you HAVE no appreciation for the work of video production because you have no videos of your own.

  • AkewsticRockR ------1

    Caitsith6-----------0

  • Oh no the world is going to end. I'd better use my small but before it's too late

    Great review

  • hey why not to make a comment on Soul Reaver?

  • I love that game, but I never got around to beating it cause it was so damn confusing

  • wow, that's the best three favorites I've ever heard (seriously I'm not kidding, that's like a godly combination)

  • Good review of Parasite Eve Kyle.

oh yeah i agree with you, Uwe Boll is such a source material rapist. You know whats even more funny? He wont even admit how much his movies suck so hard.

Alone In The Dark is a good example

  • an mp3 takes very little space, compared to a CD-track

  • what's this comment even doing here?

  • I LOVE PE and LOVE Aya Brea! :)Parasite Eve III is coming to PSP....I think they should've put it on PS3.

  • Just be happy it didn't stay as a mobile phone exclusive.

  • I wasn't a huge fan of rpg games, but the game itself seems decent. It looks better then Mass Effect, but I don't want to compare a old school game with a last year game. It's true though.

  • Square-Enix they always make RPGs what the f*** is with them and that crap? and if it's not an RPG they put RPG ELEMENTS in it.

  • They made a basket ball game that had no RPG elements in it. (Mario Hoops: 3-on-3)

  • The last creature has evolved beyond the need for eyes, using electromagnetic navigation like a submarine uses sonar.

  • Quick note: the opera voice was poorly recorded, not poorly snthesized.

    -The Lights In The Sky

  • source?

There's no way I'm buying that the voice used in game was someone's actual voice without some kind of proof.

  • I forgot her name. I'll get back to you when I find her official website thing.

    -The Lights In The Sky

  • I think you're getting the in-game midi soundtrack confused with the one "live" song created for the game's soundtrack.

  • That would certainly explain it.

    -The Antichrist Svperstar

  • I really like Parasite Eve, but I like Parasite Eve 2 even more.

  • to make the plot easy for eveyone(and make it short to):Sciencent wants to have his dead wife. he uses midocondra(a small ano size backtria that everyone has.) to revive his wife, it turns on, that it worked to well, and she was possed by hermidocondra(think evil denon, only in a siciene way.)

  • This game deserves a sequal or at least a remake.

  • They made a sequal actually. But you are right. They should do a remake or at least make a third game.

  • love love love

  • It's my favorite Ps1 RPG man that game kicks ass even though it is short (10-15 Hours).I've beat it 5 times

  • I don't want to watch on, I must play the game first! Sad I hadn't even heard about this game :@

  • AVGN Troll

  • cool as they are, the transformations suffer a small conservation of mass/energy problem =)

  • Great review, man.

It's also great that you showed Xenogears, too. My favorite game of all time

  • When Squaresoft became Square-Enix, they made Drakenguard, making that game the third M-rated game they made. I think that Ubisoft made Drakenguard II instead of Square-Enix, though.

  • And, last month they released The Last Remnant for the Xbox 360, their fourth M-rated title.

  • You know, Square kind of pisses me off. They keep retreading the same damn franchises, yet they let great games like this just sort of wither and die. Just so they can churn out Final Fantasy VII spin-off 37 Red XIII's Electric Boogaloo.

  • *Applauds*

    Sad but true.

  • It's so sad, but true. Why does Hollywood seem to blindly give all of the game based movies to Boll or Anderson to do? Don't they ever learn?

  • They used the same system in Vagrant Story. I think that was Sqaursoft too.

  • erm well actually drakenguard also had an m rating lol

  • damn you! I said "don't quote me on this!" didn't I?

Why must so many seek to make me look stupid!

    (I'm just messin' BTW)

  • couldent help myself lol

  • Is the background music from Parasite Eye?

  • Yes. It tells you that in part two.

  • It is?

Well I've never played the game, but I'm definately getting this soundtrack!
