you can make it more like mac than that. you can also make it so the menus appear on the top bar instead of on the individual windows. that way you can fool any mac user
95% of all computers in hollywood film industries run linux for the single fact that its considered the most stable OS, not because its free. linux updates a lot but the updates tend to give more features than give stability. i know plenty of people who had their macs crash on them, brand new. osx is definitely stable but not the most
umm, not that I don't believe you but where'd you get "95%" from? or are you referring to the ADMIN (Server) computers because NO film editing is not done in linux in hollywood....Mac's are the industry standard for entertainment (Music + Film) purposes...
the 5% that isn't linux are mac and computers, but some studios such as pixar do video editin on linux. you don't really need very much computers for editors. theres an entire website about linux in hollywood, which is where i got this information from
You really have no clue about what you're talking about. You're talking about 3D rendering, not video editing . These two are completely different concepts.
The vast majority of video editing and audio work for film and TV has been done on Mac OS X for years, and there's nothing out there that shows otherwise.
actually i wasn't talking about that, because neither linux nor mac are good for 3d. directx is a windows product and its the best for 3d features. linux and mac use opengl. sure pixar uses linux for its 3d modeling AND video editing, but thats just an exception. linux is mainly used for non-video related purposes in hollywood, or anywhere
You're barely making any sense at all. Go look up those technologies that you're randomly throwing about, and learn what they are and do. It's clear that you don't have an understanding of them. Until then, there's no point in arguing with you.
You should also know who the longtime CEO of Pixar was before its Disney acquisition, and who is now the largest shareholder for Disney.
Any ideas? Steve Jobs. You know, the CEO of Apple? You honestly think video editing is done with Linux at Pixar?
uh... you didn't throw any technologies out and neither have i. i have actual proof that routers, wireless phones, and GPSs run linux. linksys, belkin, android, and garmin are all companies that use linux on their devices that i'm 100% sure about. and i know for a fact that video editing is done on linux at pixar as well as a few other studios (most not very well known). not every movie is entirely made in it but some are. don't tell me idk what i'm talking aobut when its accessible knowledge
i'll wait for someone else to read this and have them decipher who is the clueless one, because if you think i'm the clueless one, thats your fault for not being specific
if you're going to be an asshole you don't need to be cute about it. tell me 3 good reasons why i'm clueless and i'm sure your comment is going to backfire, because accusing someone of being wrong and not explaining why won't make anyone care about what you have to say
1. I have needed to use a terminal only once in the last 7 months - for extracting a 7zip.
2. Most video stuff IS done on Macs.
3. Gnome pwns. Would you rather that it came full of a bunch of crap features and effects that you didn't even like? Just do a Synaptic search for whatever you want, and you have it.
1. you don't need the terminal for 7zip, i use file roller on my netbook and ark on my desktop.
2. yes, most is done on macs, but the point is linux is not only used for servers in the corporate and business world but it actually contributes to production sometimes.
3. i used to like gnome but i like kde so much more. it amazes me how much kde comes with that gnome doesn't.
i can tell you're a linux fan to a degree. don't be so presumptuous next time cause i probably like it more than you
i didn't say it was, i'm saying that if you want it to do whatever you want and perform very well, you have to be a power user. you can say the same about windows and mac, only those are a little bit easier, yet also more limiting
And everyone else disagrees. You don't need to be a power-user to have Linux perform exactly to your liking. I, for example, know jackshit about using the terminal, yet I have everything perfect, just how I like it.
actually most people would think that i'm saying linux is too easy. not everyone is as lucky as you are to get everything working flawlessly out of the box. my desktop has lots of compatibility issues and required hours of work with configuration files and the terminal, but my netbook only needed the terminal for the fingerprint reader. all linux power users typically use distros like gentoo, debian, or slackware, which are for performance, customization, and development
ubuntu (or a variant of it) is designed for the general public, its meant to do everything for you and be easy. it comes with what most people want, so obviously you, the average person, would find it suitable. but for people who like in-depth customization, you need to be more than just the average person. i probably like linux a lot more than you, used it longer, and tried ~20 distros. using a gui doesn't need a power user so you don't know what it's like to be one if you don't change stuff
I use Fedora, and I've tried about 15 distros. Also, I'm not an average user, but I'm no power-user. I actually prefer apt-get to the GUI package managers.
No-one could possibly like Linux more than me! It's pure geek-love, beat that! Ah, I remember when I cheated on Micro$oft, and eventually divorced her.
oh and no offense to Mac people but I work in a place where all we do are Mac recoveries...they aren't exactly the most computer literate of the OS users...
of course SOME of the most brilliat uses of technology have been used thru macs (maybe not specifically osx, other versions too) but MOST of any brilliant uses of technology have been used in windows. and today, our everyday gadgets such as routers, phones, GPSs, palm pilots, and so on are run by linux. apple has made some revolutionary changes but relatively few.
i would have to agree on your power user comment, because to me thats where windows falls dramatically and always will.
gnome by itself does very little and isn't impressive. i don't really like KDE but it has plenty of built-in features osx has. gnome has many more free, fully customizable features than osx, but, you have to search for them, which is a downfall but mac and linux are opposite OSes. one is designed to be easy, the other is designed for advanced users only
Linux is designed for advanced users only? What a fucking joke. My grandmother is using Ubuntu and she knows jack shit about computers. So many modern Linux distros are as easy to use as Windows.
The only reason you're saying this is because you use Ubuntu yourself (saw your avatar) and you want to feel like an "advanced user". Sorry to bust your ego, but you're not. Keep dreaming though.
wow.... way to completely over-react. i'm aware there are simpler distros, and i find ubuntu to be one of the easiest. i'd like to see your grandmother not just type and email and see if she can figure out how to use a fresh install of slackware or gentoo. life is easy when everything is done for you, but someone has to know what they're doing in order to accomplish that. if you want linux to do what you want it to, YOU HAVE TO BE AN ADVANCED USER. get some anger management
Why raping your ubuntu?

You should be aware that some of the most brilliant uses of technology has been through Mac OS X. It's the platform of choice for science research.
It should also be noted that NeXTSTEP, the predecessor to Mac OS X was the original platform for the World Wide Web.
Lastly, Mac OS X is a UNIX variant. Show me a power user who doesn't admire what UNIX has to offer, and I'll show you someone who's never used it.

More stable? More featureful (sic)? Bull. As a former Linux user, I can tell you that Gnome + Linux doesn't do anything Mac OS X doesn't already do.
