  • Nothing to be done.

  • "And we" or ennui?

  • Is there any way I could download this? I need this for my teaching demonstration tomorrow, and apparently, the youtube downloader of altervista consistentlyy fails everytime I try to download this. I have tried this over and over. :((

  • Waiting for Godot 2: Waiting for Osama.

  • I love it! I acted it at school! It took pieces out of me to memorize the line! But I loved it!

  • I was dropped in my interview because I had told the panel this play to be my favourite and i was told "nothing to be done"

  • "Nothing happens, no one comes, no one goes. It's awful!"

Thats a line from the actual play haha.

And why do they pronounce it god-oh? Its go-doe

  • @swordo21 Actually, although commonly pronounced "go-doe" in north america, everywhere else pronounces it "god-oh", Beckett pronounced it with the stress on the first syllable. It is meant to rhyme with Pozzo.

  • its the chemistry between these two that makes the play... its how they bounce of each other.. its great...

  • the awkward silences of this play make me lmao

  • I keep waiting for it to load...

  • @2muchespresso hahaha funniest post ever

  • How can people love a play where nothing happens, twice?! Whats the attraction?

  • @CatalogueBoy How can anyone enjoy a life where nothing happens?

  • @awesomecross That's we're all currently doing my friend...

  • @CatalogueBoy Read it and you´ll probably understand - most people, no matter what their educational level seem to get it. It articulates the experience of being thrust from nowhere into concious existence without knowing the why and wherefor. I once played Lucky, and in some performances one seemed to feel waves of truth flowing between the actors and audience. Yeah, i know that sounds wet..... It is a universal work of genius immediately recognised as such.

  • 'I told [Ralph] Richardson that if by Godot I had meant God I would have said God, and not Godot. This seemed to disappoint him greatly.'

-Samuel Beckett to Barney Rosset, 18 October 1954

  • @namewdarling That's just my take .. but given Beckett's notoriously elusive nature regarding his religious affiliation and a penchant for sarcasm and irony I wouldn't take too much of what he said about his work at face value.

  • Comment removed

  • This story is about the absurdity of religion and how you can literally waste your life away waiting for GODot

  • @avq5 Actually it's about existentialism.

  • @Robikus I wouldn't say it is about existentialism per se. Especially since Beckett himself never considered himself an existentialist. He was labeled that by his contemporaries. The story definitely fits into the existentialist genre but In the same way it can be described as minimalist, though I wouldn't say it's about minimalism.

  • @avq5 and hundreds if not thousands more informed than you and I together have tried to rationalize it. I'm no expert but for me the play hinges on the sprouting of the leaf. (the only true glimmer of hope in the play) And some also have redefined existentialism as well. I would say the play is more about taking responsibility for yourself and others. Maybe we should be seeking to find Godot rather than waiting for him.

  • @Robikus Interesting observation/interpretation.. I'll have to re-read that part.

  • 'I told [Ralph] Richardson that if by Godot I had meant God I would have said God, and not Godot. This seemed to disappoint him greatly.'

-Samuel Beckett to Barney Rosset, 18 October 1954

  • Genius play, completely genius

  • Me Crashing My Truck Into A Tree

  • Nothing to be done.

  • Godot come in :-sup guys!

    :- Sup Godot!

    THE END

  • Das 5uuxxx000rrrzzz

  • WHAT'S WRONG WITH TURNIPS ? YOU old prick ?

  • uggggh. This feels so unnatural. Maybe that's intended. Not for me.

  • Weirdest play ever

  • @WhiteMenCanFly There are much weirder plays out there. XD This is just the weirdest famous play ever.

  • merdre.

  • I wish I could experience this play on stage one day!!! I only read it, and I loved it!!!!

  • Something does happend....Waiting foGadot should be bible for blind pople (not in literal sense) :)

  • Very interesting work, i am new to Beckett and i think i like him.

  • Does anyone know where i can find the entrety of this performance?

  • I wish I did--this performance is marvelous

  • Is this the whole play?

  • Nope.

  • Nope.

  • This clip isn't the entire play, but it's representative. When this two-act play first opened in London, one critic said that nothing happens--twice.

  • Yes, a teacher in college told me about that.

  • The smaller of the two actors reminds me of Jim Broadbent (an English actor)

  • Its amazing seeing Mr. Bud act. Bud Thorpe is my set design teacher now. He teaches in the bronx.

  • I was there.

  • magnificent

  • Born astride a grave, the light twinkles for a moment and then its dark again. did i get it right?

  • Its so cute when they hold each other

  • Mmm Waiting for Godot. "A play where nothing happens. Twice" Gotta love it ;)

  • @MeegzZ

so much happens if we take the time !

    mAYBE

  • @MeegzZ Actually something does happen, but few catch the significance of it which is interesting since the meaning of the play hinges on it.

  • heyy heather! good luck!!! and dont be nervous..u will do great...break a leg! ;)

  • Vladimir: How's the carrot?

    Estragon: It's a carrot.

I can't wait till I do Estragon in my theatre class this week!

  • Can you post up the entire play please?

  • i wanted to see the part where vladimir and estragon talk about hanging themselves, its just before the start of this. does anyone know where i can find it?

  • An epic play, consisting of the manifestations and latencies of mankind. The attempt to fill the void and continue to dream. To deny the apparent illuminations that constitute reality.

  • Beckett was a genius in his own right.

  • I was able to act in it as Estragon. It is still one of my favorite roles because of the freedom of playing with the character and lines.

  • Kvinnan föder grensle över en grav

  • One of the most beautiful and sad plays...

  • love to watch that

  • I love that performance.

  • nothing to be done!

  • nothing to be done

  • a awesome play !
