  • That's my uncle chub standing right under the flag, when it's up

  • america is the best country in the world

  • mr america u dumb fuck your full of shit, a german named oppenhiemer invented the atomic bomb in 1942 then defected to america, also you havnt invented nothing its all came from britain germany russia so read ya history will ya!

  • @stu6991 You are right but the only reason why the atomic bomb EVER worked was because of GERMAN scientists in the USA, not UK scientists or CCCP scientists. Other countries obtained the Abomb because they were close allies to the USA, or they just took the remaining Nazi scientists from the end of the war.

  • one picture and 4 sec. of footage changed history. That single instant in time reperesents everything that America is. God Bless America!

  • 0:01 the picture that was taken

  • @TheJeffhardy809 it was actually taken somewhere in 0:03

  • The best 5 seconds of History. God Bless America!

  • Alright Ira Hayes [of Johnny Cash song "Ballad of Ira Hayes,' first soldier on left] and friends!

  • atomic bomb best thing EVER INVENTED. We wouldve lost 6.5 million soldiers storming Japan.... So instead we killed like what 500k people? they deserved it to. Fuckk rosenberg family for enterity. Their family tree should all be executed for the things they did.... WHO THE HELL SELLS NUCLER BOMB PLANS TO RUSSIA!?!?!?! WE WOULDNT HAVE HAD THE FUCKING COLD WAR

  • shut up

  • oh why you a fucking commi. Ever heard of kill a comi for my mommy

  • Only if we get to kill a Cappy for Pappy :D

  • @DeltaSqaudAKATheUnit We didn't even have 6.5 million soldiers at the time...nor have we ever It was very probably that we could have lost upwards of 100,000 soldiers storming Japan, but 6.5 million is outrageous. Probably more likely we would have lost 30,000-50,000 soldiers.

I agree though, the bombings were necessary.

  • Go john bradley a citizen from wisconsin! go wisconsin

  • If you see if from my point of view, one of the winners in ww2 was Germany. Surprised? ok , let me explain. When Germany lost all their industry was destroyed, so they had to rebuild it, and with the help of the Allies (money and such) West-Germany became one of the richest countries in the world. Still, they are absolutely not winners, only from an economic and finacial point of view.

  • America MOSTLY fought the Japanese alone (with some help from the British empire, Filipino guerrillas, etc). Without Stalin. Stalin joined the fight against Japan AFTER we dropped the Atomic bomb and the war was all but over. The deadliest front in WWII was the eastern front in the European war, true. But I still don't see your point.

And your claim that America was defeated doesn't make sense. The USSR collapsed. Not the US. I've never heard anyone claim the US defeated ALL dictators...?

  • @logoRH dude you are a fucking dumbass anti-american First off we won the war...and these aren't propaganda films, they are movies that have been dedicated to the war heroes that risked their lives for the sake of america.

  • @jdmifsud14 I'm American, born and raised. USA didnt win the entire WW2, they just won the war in the Pacific, The USSR defeated the Germans in Europe. Alot of people say America won WW2. Untrue, they just won a peice of the war.

  • @SerenityIsTheMan true thats all true what you mean...in fact we weren't involved with ww2 until 1941 aka pearl harbor. Britain on the other hand started in 1939. but "we" as in "the allies" won the war.

  • Actually Stalin begged the U.S to open a second front and take the pressure off of Russia. If we didn't open up a front on Normandy and britan fell

(and with out our help it would have) then all of the German divisions in the west would of steam rolled Russia. Also The U.S destroyed Mussolini and stopped Rommel in Africa with operation torch. So with out the U.S Europe, Italy and the pacific would b under fascist and imperial rule

  • @deacon1769 Actually Britain had succesfully resisted an invasion by Germany in 1940 long before America entered the war. They also defeated Rommel in North Africa at the Battles of El Alemein, not the U.S who weren't involved in that theatre at that time. Yes the U.S forces were heavily involved in 1943 onwards but you're over emphasising their role in the ETO. It is more likely that Europe would have been under communist rule due to the size and success of the Red Army in Europe at this time

  • @logoRH wtf US lies are you smoking something? Dude soo many Americans died to protect the country in which we live in today and you're saying crap like that? you are a disgrace for saying that...

  • Hey guys, I looked at logoRH channel and he's german. That explains a lot of this idiots arguments.

  • @curtis123451 wow just wow.

  • logoRH - FUCK OFF AND DIE YOU DOG-HUMPING, SHIT-EATING, ASSHOLE-FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. I SHIT ON YOU. I WANT TO FIND YOU AND STOMP AND BLOODY FUCKING MUDHOLE IN YOUR CHEST. THE LAST THING YOU'LL SEE IS ME PISSING ON YOUR BLOODY MESS OF A FACE. DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE.

  • The fact is NO-ONE 'won' WW2 or any other war for that matter war only has losers

  • six men raise up the flag they came from different countries their heritage but yet they stand up there proud raising the american flag on top of mount Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima despite of the massacre down there.

  • Lol, I think your forgetting:

1.) Every country involved in the war was flat broke except for America, which was richer than ever.

2.) Atomic bomb succesfully develpoed by American and British scientists.

3.) Stalin LOST every bit of influence he had by the 80's, leaving America as the only remaining superpower.

4.) We didn't lose the Vietnam war, the side we were supporting lost. Japan, Germany and Italy were the countries that lost World War 2.

    That's not propaganda, that's history.

  • @MrAmerica1995 Germany was actually the first country to start making the Atomic Bomb, but Einstein was jewish so he left Germany and came or America were he told the Americans about the Atomic Bomb. Many Americans regret what the did to the Japs in WW2, and Einstein and the Americans who droped the Bomb regret what they did.

  • @MrAmerica1995 about the 4th statement; saying that USA didnt loose the vietnam war is like saying they didnt loose the iraq war. If you never won, how did you then not loose? I suppose its the american patriotism and not the historical facts talking here

  • @theTdawgYo

? Your putting words in my mouth. I was clarifying that it's stupid to say that AMERICA lost the Vietnam war, since South Vietnam was defeated by the communist north, and we happened to be providing aid for the south. You don't have to win a war to not loose it. Remember 1812? That was was almost entirely a contest to see if America or Britain had a bigger dick, and neither coutry gained anything by the time it "ended." "Not loosing doesn't necesarily mean "winning" and vice-versa.

  • @MrAmerica1995 well then South Vietnam WITH USA's help lost the vietnam war. And that means that USA was on the side that lost. Its true, you dont necessarily loose if you don't win, but in most war situations, there is a winner and a looser. Depending on how you define "winning" or "loosing", if its withdrawal/number of casualties/lost cause/etc, I still think USA lost. I mean, even tho it wasn't an american war in the beginning, it became so once thousands of soldiers died there

  • u dont kno how worn out ud bee from that island it probably did need 6 people to raise it

  • @tman44555 that high and with wind of course you would need 6 people to raise it.

  • Was the pole really that heavy, I mean to need 6 people to raise it?

  • semper fidelis

  • 4 seconds of famous footage

  • semper fi

  • cool kid

  • Just for future reference, this was the second flag raised that day. The first one was taken down as a souvenir and this one was the replacement. From left to right in the photo: Ira Hayes (hands raised), Franklin Sousley, Mike Strank (behind Sousley), John Bradley, Rene Gagnon (behind Bradley), Harlon Block. I'm currently reading Flags of Our Fathers and it's fantastic

  • god bless america

  • Pause at 0:02 thats the famous picture of the flag rising.

  • the last man on the left is Ira hayes.

  • How are you sure?

  • google, I just type the raising flag on iwo jima and I saw a draw of these men and the names.

  • Watch flags of our fathers it tells about the iwo jima raising and something about soliders saying they raised the flag and all this stuff about it

  • don't worry, I have the movie so I now the story of the flag :P

  • u know..."letters from iwo jima" is like part 2 of flags of our fathers...the difference is that it's in the perspective of the japanese...and well both films were by Clint Eastwood...who is arguably 1 of THE BEST directors/actors of all time heheheh

  • that wasnt the original flag raised the original was raised during the battle by two men really fast and this was the replacement flag

  • Yes but this one looks cooler

  • I always get inspired by this image

  • yeeahit is on 0:02

  • One of the most iconic images of the 20th Century.

  • in color, did you remake it frame by frame?

  • I gess they took the picture at 0:02

  • there has been "Color" Motion pictures and still frames sinse WW1, it was very very expensive at the time and was not as great a quality as black in white, so the footage is rare, that's why most people have no idea about it.

  • no they had a little color back then

  • With computer technology, studios were able to add color to black and white films by digitally tinting single objects in each frame of the film until it was fully colorized this is how they get it in color!

  • Please do a little more research. The Sands of Iwo Jima was an awesome movie and it actually saved the Marine Corps in a lot of ways. 3 of the actual flag raisers were in the movie in the last scene. Most of the scenes from The Sands of Iwo Jima were actual combat footage.

  • ww2

  • frm which war was this flag frm !?!?!?!

  • WWII - 48 States then

  • yea found out iwo jima

  • no matter how long its been, or how old i get, this picture always gets to me

  • SemperFi

  • Go America

  • thats not flags of our fathers u no, thats the real deal

  • How the fuck did they get it in color?!

  • they had color back then

  • Look at this short film and see how the flag raising really was and then watch John Wayne's "Sands of Iwo Jima", there's a big difference, that movie was way too phony and inaccurate, thank God we now have movies like Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima to show realistically how awful the combat was and how human the Marines and Japanese were, big difference from the John Wayne propaganda films of the 50s.

  • yes, i totally agree

and it is interesting that several of the men who raised that flag died in combat right after

  • ye three of them raising the flag died in combat in the same battle and two were wounded.

  • Yea. But I like Jhon Wayne!

  • The National Museum of the Marine Corps has been opened this year in Quantico, VA., go to their website and see the many exhibits it offers and if you can make a contribution, they need it to complete the construction of the site.

  • SemperFi

  • lol

  • It's kind of funny, that Marine standing in the foreground just missed one of the most historical events in Marine Corps and American history by a few seconds, he turned his head too late!

  • This was an insignificant event that nobody noticed that was caught on film and made into a big deal because the photo was so dramatic looking. Flags of our Fathers got it just right in showing how these six men were just regular guys caught up in extreme circumstances, and the three who survived had their lives altered forever because of a single split second photo.

  • The guy on the far right doesn't know what's going on, lol. Not the one raising the flag, the one just standing there.

  • My father was there on Iwo. Fourth Marine division. He was my hero too.

  • sad that 3 of them diedon the island

  • how did you get this video????????? i thoguht it was classified

  • It's so weird watching this clip were they raised the flag. So historical, seriously, it gives me goosebumps!

  • John Bradly ses that people create heroes

  • Right before 00:02 (The timer stil says 00:01) is the famous photograph. Photography's most reproduced photo.

  • god bless em!

  • Everyone who was there! Deam or alive was heroes!

  • WELL THATS WHAT THEY SAID NOW STFU

  • they said none of them were heroes..they just saw a flag being put up and cam over to help..they say the real heroes are the ones who died there..

  • is that the acually flag raising? where can i find more footage on this?

  • Yes, it is the actual flag raising. I captured it from a documentary on TV. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the show.

  • try google

  • They were realy men. We will never forget this scene. The Victory of freedom against tyranny.

  • can someone send me this clip?

  • Did those 6 men really come under attack after they put it up?

  • Yes, Japanese enclosed in the rocks came out and tried to kill them. All six survived, though; however, Strank, Sousley, and Block died before Iwo Jima was conquered. Actually, this footage was taken on February 23, 4 days into the battle. This flag raised was also a replacement for a real one, which was, ironically, thought to have been extremely famous.

  • Damn Straight man only one is alive now and he lives in Minnesota

  • None of them are alive, the last survivor was John Bradley and he died in Wisconsin in 1994

  • Sadly he has passed away recently. His name was Cpl. Charles Lindberg (not related to the aviator of the same name). However he was part of the first flag raising not this one.

  • Those guys were my heroes but now theyve all passed away

  • was the second flag raised because the navy sectuary wanted it or was it because it was to small to be seen , ive heard different variations...also with the sectary, sum say he took the original flag and a replaccment was put up and sum say the marines hid the original and put up a replacment therefore the sectuary took the "fake" one.????

  • the 1st one

  • yea thats wat i mean, did they raise the 2nd flag coz the sectuary wanted the first one or coz the first one was to small

  • not right after they put it up. But they were quite surprise that no japanese attacked them while climbing suribachi.

i got this information from reading flags of our fathers by james bradley - one of flagraisers son

  • God Bless America and all those who gave some and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Semper Fidelis. The United States Marine Corps for another 500 years. Hoorah!

  • dam ass great video go U.S.A

  • My grandfather was on Iwo Jima, and he saw that flagraising just as it happend...

  • wow thats one of the most incredible moments in all of the American military!!
