Soon, the ABS-CBN TV Patrol's theme music News Series 2000 was used from August 16, 1993 to November 18, 2005 and a transition to the format as "TV Patrol World" with Eyewitness News and new set, graphics and open on November 21, 2005.
eyewitness news sucks! i either watch CBS 2 News or News 4 New York. maybe a glimpse of PIX 11 News but whatever happened to the epicness Eyewitness News once had? maybe if they brought back the theme song that starts at 4:55 then i'd watch! and if we get back alot of those great anchors, then i'd watch then as well.
lol, theres CBS 2 News and News 4 New York. Eyewitness News isn't that great. it would still have been epic if they kept the theme song from the 80s that lasted until the early 90s
Roger Grimsby RULED! I was watching the news one night when he introduced Howard Cosell by saying, "If words were birds, Howard, you'd be covered in white."
This is excellent -- this is the reason why YouTube was invented, to have a place to share all of these lovely clips from the past. It's incredible to reflect on the many many talented professionals that have served up the news for us, year after year after year.
Now listen to this . . .Great stuff!!!! Like Mick said at the 9/11 Memorial Concert: 'Don't f*&% with New York.' But I gotta question...where's Melba Tolliver? Or Milton Lewis??
Back when news was actuall news and not "infotainment." When reporters and anchors knew about the beats they were covering and didn't just read words off a teleprompter. Damn, I miss those days....
WKBW in Buffalo would've been better served to join KTRK in Houston as they switched their theme music(MCTYW) to WABC's CHL score. All this montage... beau-tee-full! An example Buffalo would've been better served to emulate.
Thank you so much for posting this. I grew up watching Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel. It brings back alot of memories of my father who adored them. I still watch Eyewitness news although it's not the same without those two. They were like the odd couple.
I.I.N.M., the "EWN" V/O heard at 0:28-:29 was Bob Lloyd, a veteran ABC staffer whose announcing credits included "Dark Shadows" and the early years of "One Life to Live." He was the last "EWN" announcer of the Grimsby era, which ended about a month after the newscast in question which came from March of '86.
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but hearing "Eye of the Tiger" on the track made me chuckle. Back when Cliff Abromats was WABC News Director in the early and mid-80s, he was VERY COMPETITIVE. He felt he was at war with the other stations. Many nights we'd adjourn across Columbus Avenue to "Chip's Pub," and he'd ask the bartender for a fistful of quarters to play "Eye of the Tiger" over and over again. "Eyewitness" had slipped to #2 when he arrived; it was #1 when he left.
I remember when I would go to work at WABC-TV. Everyday I would be greeted at the door with the major stories, either by Robb Hanrahann or Bill Beutel. I loved Bill; he was my best friend where my job was concerned. Diana and I were good together (for a while). I am also surprised that someone was able to get that shot of me and Ernie from 1987.
Thank you for keeping my tenure alive through youtube.
With Ernie Anastos, Bill Beutel, Roz Abrams, Diana Williams, and all the other great talents that graced this terrific station over the last few decades, its no wonder it has remained number 1 for all these years. The curent team is good also.
Thanks for the memories...great vid.

Ms. Tolliver left WABC for WNBC-TV in 1976. She was, however, heard as a V/O at the end of an August 1970 edition of "EWN."
