Bill is just saying what most journalists are thinking but won't "go there". Also, Sweden's economy is not even 10% as complex as ours and their native culture and landscape does not yield high minority crime rates like we have. Think before you speak and assume uhmu.
We wouldnt even have a pure socialist government, first of all. The fact is that there is so much wealth in America there is no reason we should have a lower class that reaches to the extreems that it does. I think Obama handled this interview very well. Bill O' Reilly is known for bringing out the fight in people, and making them look bad. Obama stayed calm and presented his side with confidence, and an open mind. Bill is a little to extreme.

I think you make an excellent point here. I believe your post speaks to the heart of the debate on this issue. I happen to disagree with this thinking but I understand it. My issue with this thinking is that it seem to lack compassion for humans who are not equipped to succeed financially in our society. If this is who we are, then logically we are a "survival of the fittest" society. I do not believe this approach serves the American philosophy well.
Socialism, in it's modern meaning, is a great form of state (it's not communism, don't be stupid). It makes to keep the amount of people living under the poverty line as low as possible, while giving every individual equal opportunity to pursue a career of choice. It doesn't control income, you still have incredible differences in earnings. However, as you have extracted your riches (by opportunities+education) from your country, one owes it to that country to pay taxes according to incomelevel

Finally I think people should realize that in respect of Germany (as with Japan's deployment in Iraq) historical factors dating back to the immediate post-WW2 period mean that deploying combat troops abroad is a very big deal. Germany, rightly, and with the endorsement of the US significantly curbed its earlier militant tendencies and has since been strongly pacifist in its international outlook. The US has had no such experience.
As for Afghanistan again there is a grain of truth in that the German, French and Italian contingents are undersized and ineffectual given their ROE. But again British, Canadian and Danish contributions and casualties have been proportionately high the that of the US. Americans reading this must realize the strain this puts on the national governments concerned and are generally motivated by a desire to maintain good relations with the US as much as any threat to themselves.
Bill's flippent "Europe is cowardly" remark irks slightly, though I wouldn't expect anyhting less. He has a point regarding European relations with Russia (though poorly expressed) but then again Europe, particularly Germany and Italy, have much more to lose given their energy security needs and geographical proximity, than does the US.

this is disgned so people who are on the lower end of the scale can get a fairer chance to build a future and try live without fear of financial unsurity.
look at the public health system in england. with having the tax system from all members of the public you wouldn't have insurance companies having the power. what's better; being teated or being sent away because you're not financially well off enough to have insurance.

On the Sweden comment, yes socialism does work in a controlled environment (they boot all illegals and free riders) with a limited population (9 mill). Also, Sweden's economy is not even 10% as complex as ours and their native culture and landscape does not yield high minority crime rates like we have. Think before you speak and assume uhmu.

I think Obama handled this interview very well. Bill O' Reilly is known for bringing out the fight in people, and making them look bad. Obama stayed calm and presented his side with confidence, and an open mind. Bill is a little to extreme.

Excellent interview. I am not an O'Reilly fan but I do applaud his asking tough questions and being smart enough to back them up with facts. To me, it this allowed perspectives closer to the values of these two to come through. Kudos to Obama for fielding the tough questions with competence.

I think you make an excellent point here. I believe your post speaks to the heart of the debate on this issue. I happen to disagree with this thinking but I understand it. My issue with this thinking is that it seem to lack compassion for humans who are not equipped to succeed financially in our society. If this is who we are, then logically we are a "survival of the fittest" society. I do not believe this approach serves the American philosophy well.

Socialism, in it's modern meaning, is a great form of state (it's not communism, don't be stupid). It makes to keep the amount of people living under the poverty line as low as possible, while giving every individual equal opportunity to pursue a career of choice. It doesn't control income, you still have incredible differences in earnings. However, as you have extracted your riches (by opportunities+education) from your country, one owes it to that country to pay taxes according to incomelevel

It's more like centralizing basic commodities like healthcare. Business, although held back by slightly more restrictions, is still privatized. What you see is that a lot more people are living lives without having to worry about surviving the day. (obviously not everyone lives as comfortable as others but hey).

Finally I think people should realize that in respect of Germany (as with Japan's deployment in Iraq) historical factors dating back to the immediate post-WW2 period mean that deploying combat troops abroad is a very big deal. Germany, rightly, and with the endorsement of the US significantly curbed its earlier militant tendencies and has since been strongly pacifist in its international outlook. The US has had no such experience.

As for Afghanistan again there is a grain of truth in that the German, French and Italian contingents are undersized and ineffectual given their ROE. But again British, Canadian and Danish contributions and casualties have been proportionately high the that of the US. Americans reading this must realize the strain this puts on the national governments concerned and are generally motivated by a desire to maintain good relations with the US as much as any threat to themselves.

wrong so wrong. socilaism is deisgned to keep a level playing field between high and low earner's. it works on the basis that it genrates encome and resources internally. conservative however, looks at finding resources extrernally (i.e invading countries) example, iraq and the oil. england the empire. that is history and fact

look at the public health system in england. with having the tax system from all members of the public you wouldn't have insurance companies having the power. what's better; being teated or being sent away because you're not financially well off enough to have insurance.
