  • Well done mate, you totally nailed it! Looking forward to the live extended, the breakdown sounds great, it'd be nice to see a cover for it. Cheers!!

  • @phobiaspasm Thanks! Yes, I'll get to the extended version soon. Such an awesome song live...Adam really shines. Thanks for the sub...

  • @JosephMCorbett No problem :) yeah Adam's a pro!!

  • Great job man.... sounds wonderful

  • @deadsky80 Hey, thank you :)!

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett man you did an awesome job stinkfist is one of my favorite tool songs

  • @TheMinerva14 Thanks! Planning on an "extended" version at some point. Love the "solo" during the extended breakdown...Adam does some great work there.

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett yeah i know adam love the les paul custom because he said that gibson stopped making them because the metal was flaking with the tone of the cords he said thats the noise that gives the songs there dissoreinting sound but its rumored that adam recorded stinkfest using a fender stratocaster

  • @JosephMCorbett were you using marshall amps

  • @TheMinerva14 Ya, that video was recorded with just my Marshall MG and two MG 4X12 cabs. I don't care what anyone says, I can get decent tones out of it at bedroom levels. I've had it since '98 and still love it.

  • lol....i never even thought of going perpendicular(sad)...and that sounds awesome!

  • that is so much easier than the BS fingering I was trying to pull off...haha...

So since you've been so kind I want to try to help you too. I believe the riff starting at 1:40 is 2-2-0 and I believe you are just playing 2-2. Check out the song without playing along and tell me your opinion :)

Second thing...the strumming starting at 3:26 has triplets in in twice...lsten again and i think you will hear them...I figure if you posted a 2nd take you want to be as accurate as possible...Thanks!!

  • @DaRizzle614 Cool, glad that helped. Not sure about 1:40. I hear it...but I'm not sure if it's delay from the 2-2 or delay from an extra 0. I'll give it a shot tomorrow when I play and see what it sounds like. I'll also give it a better listen with some headphones :). Thanks for the tip on the strumming :). You'll find that none of my covers are perfect...better than some, not as good as others. You going to put up a cover of this song after all this hard work?

    J

  • @JosephMCorbett

Even better...Im learning this for a rock/metal cover band I just joined. Im determined to not "close enough" any parts. I have a video of me playing a Lamb of God song and a Rage song (before I set up my pitchshifter) if you would like to check those out. Maybe I can get lucky and evntually post a video of my cover band playing this song...Ill give you a shout out...haha

  • @DaRizzle614 Awesome...that sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck. I did check out your Rage cover...good stuff. I'd be really interested in seeing the whole song/band when/if you do it...keep me posted :). How are you doing with the feedback just before the "solo"? That's a classic Adam sound and one of the best/most interesting parts of the guitar work in this song, IMO.

  • @JosephMCorbett

Well....Ive got "something" going on for it...pickscraping, but not perfect yet. Here is an embarrassing question...how the hell do you scrape the unwound strings?!? I dont get it? They are smooth hence no scrape sound....You think I would know something like that...but I dont

  • @DaRizzle614 Simple answer...use a "used" pick :). The sides of your pick should have little nicks in it from pick slides on the wound strings. When you slide the unwound strings, use a sawing motion so that the nicks actually "pick" the string while you're sliding it.

  • sweet, thanks for the reply and site link! Have another question for you...what is your fingering at 3:36 ? Is it the tool tabs version? Thats the only part that I cant make sound right...lol...thanks again

  • @DaRizzle614 Sure, that's 12th fret D string and 14th fret A string held as a chord and strummed with the open top E string. Next, lift the 14th fret A string finger, but keep the 12th fret D string down, and strum the same 3 three strings. Alternate back and forth to time and rhythm as with the chords in the pattern just prior to this part. Flange is on during the whole part. See how it sounds, but you can pretty much strum all of the strings. Hope this helps.

  • awesome cover, really helping me learn the little things to bring it all together.

What is your fingering during the 2:54 mark? Thats all just pick scraping right?

You play some parts different than any tabs Ive seen. You learn by ear or have a link to the tab you used as a starting point?

    Good Stuff, bravo

  • @DaRizzle614 Thanks. Glad it's helping you...fun to put covers up and show that you can play, but the point is also to help people learn to play themselves. At 2:54, ya, that's just a pick scrape w/ flange and delay on the higher (pitched) strings. However, I use the time to get ready for the picked part and position my fingers as it's not easy to just "go there". Some of the little parts are taken from how Adam plays live. I did start with tabs at Tooltabs dot net. See next post...

  • @DaRizzle614 They have tabs for the studio track as well as an extended "live" version. But, as you have discovered, there isn't a perfect tab. Also, I watch every live clip of Tool I can find...usually several a day, here on Youtube. I figure the very best way to learn is from watching and listening to Adam himself. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Wow, fantastic cover

  • @0oOsimonOo0 Thanks a lot!

  • I have no clue what I'm still doing here ;)

Nicely done! Too bad on the Macbook mic (although still sounding nice :)), you should only really need a decent audio interface, but the 48V phantom stuff is for condenser mics ;)

  • @sanderd Thanks, and it's good to hear from you. What do you mean? I think I'm trying to use the SM57 in a way that it's not intended to be used. It works fine to mic my amp. But I want to use it to mic the room...and it's just too quite. I don't really want to get into recording my amp and then mixing with the studio track...I want my video's to be more "raw" and less "produced". IOW, the sound you hear is the same as you would hear if you were in the room. I'll figure something out.

    J

  • @sanderd In case it doesn't make sense in my post below...what do you mean "you have no clue what you're still doing here"?

    J

  • Nice job :) throw some more our way

  • @Jessejames1537 Hey thanks...I'm working on it :).

    J

  • nice cover

  • @Maverik0001 Thanks!
