Love Blackmore but he sounds eerily similar to Nigel Tufnil from Spinal Tap here. In fact, I think that Chris Guest used Blackmore and Jeff Beck as templates for the Nigel character. Blackmore can come off as being very pretentious during interviews, especially the early ones.
@ritter89- I think the Jeff Beck comparison in Nigel Tuffnel's character is simply because Chris Guest looks like him. I'd say there's more Yngwie Malmsteen in him. Remember the "classical" solo? That had me rolling XD

Who said Jimmy made better songs? Child in Time, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy, Strange kind of Woman, all those songs were written by Ritchie and no one can tell me that those songs aren't at least equally good, if not better than Zeppelin's best things. Besides, Ritchie didn't only have better technique, his style and sound was much more progressive back in the days, and when it comes to live play, very few players can match Ritchie in any term.

Page didn't have to get pussy-whipped & go to renaissance fairs with his wife to do acoustic music. He did it with Plant & John Paul Jones right on Zep albums & they came out great.

For what its worth, I always though he was an excecllent guitarist in a good band ( love burn, highway star etc) who wanted to be a superstar, but who just wasn't...he was an arsehole... as he clearly demonstrates in this interview . Spinal Tap ? Oh yes ! The rock family trees vids are interesting...surpirse surprise B didn't take part.( Try Jan Akkerman for a '72 guitarist btw)

I disagree Ritchie can smoke Jimmy when it comes to technique.... Jimmy was good in the studio, but sloppy as hell live; you are saying that Jimmy is better merely because he makes better songs, but that doesn't necessarily make him a better player.

Who said Jimmy made better songs? Child in Time, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy, Strange kind of Woman, all those songs were written by Ritchie and no one can tell me that those songs aren't at least equally good, if not better than Zeppelin's best things. Besides, Ritchie didn't only have better technique, his style and sound was much more progressive back in the days, and when it comes to live play, very few players can match Ritchie in any term.

@Hemorrhophrodite Ah Please! No one can tell you because you're ignorant. Deep Purple Balls will never be anything but a 2nd rate Zep. Out of those songs only "Highway Star" would qualify to be on a Zep album. Zep has a mythic quality & versatility & organic explosive sound that Purple Balls can't even approach. Page didn't have to get pussy-whipped & go to renaissance fairs with his wife to do acoustic music. He did it with Plant & John Paul Jones right on Zep albums & they came out great.

i'm just thinking he's doing what he wants to do nowadays. have heard that he's really wanted to do the folk thing always, but has been a part of a rockband which of course is a good thing to. but no strange about being something for a big part of ones life and then wanna do something else. ritchie has the TONE in his fingers no matter if it's night or purple. so, all is good to me.

Mr. 'Fuzz' raises a good point.Richies concerts are given in very small venues for the love of the craft nothing else.He has indeed avoided selling out which may be why many of you regret his days in Deep Purple. Imagine he had gone into writing and performing mouth-rinse FM pop tunes..would you still be clamouring for him? I'll conceed that the hats look a little silly but then to each their own!

Exactly mate! I'd love to see him rock again, but I respect him for doing what he wants, and he doesnt owe people a damn thing, he has nothing to prove! If thats what he wants to do, and how he wants to live I say fair play, its better than becoming someone who just does the greatest hits for cash with no spirit or playing pop bad music!
