The thing that most caught my attention was when she said that young people are influenced when they see members of congress arguing. I don't think most young people or middle-aged people can even name their own U.S. representative, much less the people he or she is arguing with. No offense to Jewel. I'm a fan, and she is awesome and fun and smart. It's just that that statement overestimates the knowledge of the average American voter.
WE need change, people who will get back to running this country by the constitution and caring that this wealthy country has homeless people while a great percentage are being turned into drug addicts in the name of HEALTH!!
I am only 60 years old and the changes in society just in my lifetime are frightening.
Jewel is actually much deeper than her comments here, and she just knows how to present her ideas to regular people.
Or: She is plain and stupid and would make a good Miss America contestant.
Even if it is the former, she does not reveal enough about what she really thinks for me to know if I agree with her or not. But if I would, then I appreciate what she has said.
If people actually traveled to other countries,( not just staying in tourist traps, and talked to people, people would be as appreciative about the USA as Jewel is!
No other country gets put under a microscopr than the USA. No other country ALLOWS itself to be put under the microscope as the USA does.
Fair comparison, the USA is definitely a country to love.

My question is this.
Why are celebrities given such clout over people who've studied an issue for years and are highly experienced in the field that that issue addresses?
I'm not saying that she's not smart or dumb. I'm saying that those with the highest qualifications on an issue should be given the most clout.
