excuse the guy for getting lost in his piece, too wrapped to have precise conducting.. or would you rather he just stand up there like a statue? ...jeez. or maybe you dont know what its like to really feel a piece of music grab you?
on the overall, he's ok as a conductor la. just that when he uses his left hand, he forgets his right ._. n ends up, he doesnt show the beat anymore ._.
haha =D but tan dun, I LOVE U! :P u r seriously, the maestro of youtube =D
::.. _ -q tipo tan fresco, s bien a mí me gusta!! no pareciera hacer 2 movimientos iguales jeje d lokos.. bueee........... por cierto la melodía a partir del min 3:15 es muy muy bonita, como se llamara??? :P
he's a genius, maybe he doesn't know to hold a baton but I think this is not important in music, perhaps it does for theoretical people who don't know what music really means nowadays. I want to emphasize all his work to spread music on people, and for that reason he's the best
Starting around 4:18, I'm guessing that he's punching beats 1, 4,2 (emphasizing high E's), but when he comes to a rest, they're already at the e-tremelo. That doesn't make sense. But when he starts moving again, it looks like he beats every half-note except for the fermata at the end.
A few tips - the video without sound is much easier to follow. In the beginning, Tan Dun is conducting: 1-2-3-(hold)-4, 1-2-3-(hold)-4, 1-2-3-(extra)-(hold)-4, 1. He's not conducting eighth notes, like this video implies. I'm still trying to figure out the last 6 measures (4/4).
It sounds great (albeit a little off from the conductor). It's so funny, it's almost like he forgets he is conducting. I definitely need to get my entry in!
The music and the video are missynchronized! The music is an eigth note too early compared to the conductor. That's very misleading. The symphony is a very interesting and inspiring project, though.
wonderfull idea, but is quite a year i don't play violin(it was just an hobby)...some1 can post a video lesson to staccato and accento, the differences between the 2 kind of bowing (sorry bad english too :p )
Anyone else working on this have a tough time following this? lol.
I was running through my part with it, and when I watched him, he would move his arms at an odd time... Maybe I'm not used to it, or it's something new? =\
He doesn't really give a clear cue at all. At times he's not even conducting, but you just have to count each measures, accept for the holds, of course. At this level of musicality not all players rely on the conductor. You just have to listen and feel for the music.
I always knew it's the Chinese culture that has the most of thrust-power to transform and unify the world. This novel idea is the start of a whole new culture, this time online, and frankly, I wouldn't have thought that Google is going to promote classical music in international culture. This is really a hopeful new start, thanks for this from all my heart.
shut if you don't know a single thing about it. its sure that every musican can count to four! its justs that they need someone to bring them all together. its not visual entertainment too.
I agree. The piano part is not arranged for a pianist. It's basically all the parts of the orchestra put into two staves. No offense to Tan Dun. I love the piece, it just doesn't have a good piano part :(
I also agree, the themes itself and transitions is very pleasing to the ears. However I really don't see the importance of having a piano section to this piece. Will the piano be in the front of the stage or the back. Any thoughts?
I doubt they'll put the piano in the front bc you can't even see a pianist for "A symphony for Youtube" video or in any of the other performances of Erotica and i think they just added it last minute becuase, A, the score was available so late; B, it's basically all the parts of the orchestra put together; C, they have "LSO master classes" for almost all of the other instruments except the piano, and D, it's not even included in the Full Orchestra score. ugh, this is so frustrating. = /
oh, and plus, all the other instruments get their own video for their section (strings &harps, or the precussion) but the pianist gets the video that is conducted for the whole orchestra.
With the time given, the difficulties of the jumps, the tempo being played and glissandos. It would be interesting to see what would be submitted. I'm really looking forward to the attempts on Bar 145 the transfer of glissandos from RH to LH with the accented chord on the 4th beat.
is it possible to even download any of these videos. I mean Im gonna be recording this offline and not be using an internet connection. I tried a lot of programs and it seems nothing works to take this off of youtube and into your computer. Help?

This is such an awesome song...I'm so learning it...oh yea and trying out for the fun xD...just...where on earth can i find the music sheet for the piano
Thanks for the reply. This could work... guitar = viola/cello or something. I'm still unsure if this is correct because the "alternate instruments" pdf suggests that bouzouki, charango, and sitar players should follow the guitar music. Makes me think there is supposed to be guitar, but they just forgot or something (as seems to be the case with piano).

There's no sheet music for guitar, but they offer suggestions for alternative instruments to use.
For example: I'm going to use my voice, so I can use the sheet music for the flute and vocalize.
