  • I feel so stupid now... I really can't play and now I see how good you are... Well, if I want to be so good as you I think I must now go back to practising.. :)

  • 5 people can't defy gravity....

  • Wow!!!!!! I could not tear my eyes away for even a second. You are clearly gifted. Great job!!!!

  • i have this songbook and have attempted learning this song WITHOUT the melody in the voice and that's complicated enough, so i applaud you. I noticed in the final chorus that you simplified the left hand, which i do all the time so you're not alone on that one. But just in case you don't know this, the 2 lines that connect the chords at the end men that you have to switch back and forth between them, like a trill but with chords. just so you know, and i don't mean any offense. Really good job!

  • you amaze me, what a talented guy you are!! do you do requests lol? i've been hunting an instrumental only version of Summer Sequence from Blood Brothers if so :p

  • Like if you were singing through the whole thing!!

  • Love it!

  • I found myself singing along ^^

  • sooo epic:)

  • SWANKIFIED!!!!! that was GREAT!!!! 5 people work for the Wizard XD

  • You are truely amazing and doesn't seem that you are a rookie at all! (((((FOR SURE))))) I like this one the most out of all the ones that I have seen because I like to be able to feel the music when somebody plays and be able to feel like I am the music that either I am playing or that the other person plays and this in my opinion for me felt like that. Thanks for sharing such an awesome video! :)

  • I did watch your tutorial on that one part of this song that somebody requested, and I understand you may not have the time to be making tutorials, but if you would ever make a tutorial for the whole song I will literally love you forever. I say that if this comment gets at least 100 likes then that proves it's a gift worth sharing :-)

  • @aperiatutorials This song is quite long and has many key changes and complexities. I'll take you up on the offer of 100 likes. Keep me posted when your comment hits that number :)

  • this is beautiful made me want to cry

  • This is really lovely! I'm trying to learn the song and it's really difficult!

  • Nice! Is that the original version I see you playing or is that from the book? There are so many different versions to play and you killed this one with good talent. Keep up the good work :)

  • HA! youre a rookie yeah right. so jelous of ur skill. ive tried countless times to learn this from tons of tutorials but its just too complex for me at the moment. u rocked it though!

  • you're awesome !!

  • Awesome!:)

  • really? rookie player? you're pro in my books bro :) Great job!

  • OMG PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL!!! you are sooooo good!

  • can i use this for an audition im doing ???

  • at 2:16. is it suppose to be an Ab, or a Bb on the top note of the running chords...

  • dude im stunned! good work!

  • This is amaazzzzinngg!!!!! great playing!! :D

  • you are sooooo good. hey what type of piano is that?

  • ROOKIE???? THIS GUY NEEDS TO BE IN THE ORCHASTRA PIT @ Wicked

  • I like the accuracy, and it does sound good, but there's like zero sensitivity...

  • Okay, I am going to sound totally stupid right here, so please go easy on me: I'm learning how to read sheet music, pretty much self taought on it (with some help from youtube), and I know most of it. I know about sharps, flats, natural, etc. But there is one thing I don't know, and I would really appreciate some help on it: So a piece of sheet music has a not on it. Let's say it's a C, just for the hell of it. What I don't yet know is this: How do I know WHICH C? How do you tell?

  • @ubertekee you know by where it is on the staff. so if you're playing in treble clef (the right hand, mostly),the middle C is one line below the staff. the C that's on the third space from the bottom is an octave higher, and so on. in the bass clef (left hand, mostly) middle C is one line ABOVE the staff, and the C that's the second space from the bottom is an octave below it. if you memorize the acronyms (like the spaces for treble spell out "FACE"), it's easier to remember where everything is.

  • @oliviajuliana Oh my God...thank you! Like, really, thanks a lot! I don't think I could have asked for a more clear, concise explanation than that. You're a huge help :)

  • @ubertekee haha, no problem.

  • i don't think the version you bought on musicnotes is available anymore

  • Dude! I really don't think that you sound like a rookie player. Not even close! How long have you been playing? This is amazing. If I didn't know it was you playing I would have thoguht I was listening to the original person playing it. Way to Go!!! Please keep tickling those amazing sounding ivories!!

  • confident playing, but your touch and tone is awful in places

  • confident playing, but your touch and tone is awful in places

  • I learnt this and played it for my music solo performance at school (actual exam at A-level) and i got A* with full marks!!!!!!

  • YES. Finally glad to have found such a serious piano-youtuber.

  • I love you. :DDD

  • What version of the book do you have, because I have the piano version and it starts on a D, for the "big rumbling chords."

  • @Zypher7777

    Haha love this comment! XD

  • I don't like the way you mash the keys even in the quiet parts of the piece ... it really removes all the dynamics from the track and leaves it like one loud noise throughout ... if you played the soft bits delicately and softer, you'd tell a much better story with your music. For example at 4:50 you're smashing the keys on a delicate part ...

  • I LOVE YOUR KEYBOARD/PIANO!! IT IS awesome!!!!! :) MAJORLY AWESOME PLAYING! :)

  • This is by far the best piano performance I have EVER seen! It's absolutely fascinating! Thanks for sharing! :)

  • can you tell me where i can get the music sheets? I realy want 2 play this song

  • Hi, this is a great version! :) I was wondering which songbook it was because I'm confused on which to buy...is it the wicked: a new musical for piano, voice and guitar or is your vesion from the piano play along? thank you!!!

  • absolutely OUTSTANDING!! although i play piano fairly well, i cant play nearly as well as you! wow!! this makes me want to buy this song and practice more. thank you for sharing your talent with us :)

  • Which version did you buy off of music notes, just the seven page piano solo? I've got to buy this today, if you could get back to me that'd be great! Love this song, and you play beautifully (:

  • Which version did you buy off of music notes, just the seven page piano solo? I've got to buy this today, if you could get back to me that'd be great! Love this song, and you play beautifully (:

  • Deveris de tocar mas delicadamente el piano :S..

  • Where did u get the sheets for this btw?

  • timing is way off :(

  • awesome job!

any tips to get the timing right at 3:50 ('if you care to find me')?

its really off the vocal track when i do it

  • @TellThemYess ME TOO! That's the part I have to learn. that from the end.

I know the rest of it memorized, but that ending! hard stuff!

  • That gave me goosebumps, chills, and it even made me cry! I'm serious. I can't lie about these things! Fantastic job!! I loved it!!!

  • If you are a rookie... I'm still a fetus when in terms of piano playing capabilities. Seriously man, you're good!

  • My piano teacher is making me play this from the vocal selections..... and I'm only a level 4...... this should be fun.....

anyway really really really great piano playing! one of the best versions of this song i've heard.... and that includes the OBC album!

  • "I'm only a rookie player.." DUDE! That was absolutely amazing! I wish that was rookie level.:) then I would be able to play it:)

  • @Gabby16nov agreed, i can play this version, but not as well as this yet!

  • I cant believe it said he considered himself to be a rookie piano player...........THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

  • i sang throo the song

  • ...what ? You're amazing !!!

  • This is awesome! Is there any way you could post a link to the exact copy you got? Like others have said, there are many versions on musicnotes...

  • Rookie?

This is easily about Grade 7/8 standard, and you're playing at full speed. This is really amazing.

Eventually, I will have learned all 11 pages, to somewhere near this standard! (I hope!)

    Amazing <3

  • @Zypher7777 :)

  • @spyderjosh i love this video mate! u inspire me! i love it how u engage with the viewers with the use of ur captions:P haha!

  • You're a ROOKIE player? You've gotta be kdiding me. XD That was PHENOMENAL. =]

I just started playing piano and can barely play easy songs. :P Best of luck in the future dude. ;D

  • wow this is the best cover I've ever heard.. :)) amazing!! I hope I'll be able to play it as great as you do one day..

  • i love this video, especially when your playing fast :D

  • where did you learn this version of the song?

  • can you please make a tutorial from 1:43 to 2:31 or until the crazy fingering part ends. i really love this song. you are one of the most gtalented pianists that ive heard. thank you. (:

  • that was amazing :)

  • we're doing wicked in a summer workshop/summer school i'm at this week, and i'm elphaba in it, and i have to sing this :) i'm chufted. i love it! i'm only 12, i'm the youngest there.. but i guess thats a good thing? the shows on friday.. i'm really excited :):) i was singing along to this haha. :D

  • your the BEST piano player ive EVER seen <3

any chance of tutorials? :) x

  • is there any chance you recorded that song onto the clavinova? then it would be supper awesome if you uploaded the stereo recording onto youtube syncing up to this recording!

  • @xvader123123 I've honestly considered recording using my new method but for some reason, I have a hard time going back to songs i've already learned. I forget them quickly and end up finding myself frustrated learning them again. The first time I learn a new song, it's like an adventure that keeps me going til I find the end. I can play 4 measures of new music 100 times without getting bored :)

  • @spyderjosh ah well, still sounds epic without the stereo! :)

  • I am a piano player much like yourself, and I was curious about the music you used. I cannot find it anywhere!!! Pleeeeeeease tell me the name of the book you used (because there are several different types of wicked books). Also, did you use the same book for all your wicked songs?

  • @Coldindecember I purchased mine individually from musicnotes online. Each arrangement is a couple of bucks and you can print it directly from their website.

  • @Coldindecember there are many versions, google or amazon search wicked piano book

  • Defying Gravity is such a beautiful song, especially when it's a piano solo. I've heard people play it many different ways but this is definitely my favorite version now. You're a very talented pianist.

  • @animekay6 What a thoughtful comment. Thank you!

  • WOW!!! You are absolutely wonderful with the piano... I wish I could play this song as great as you do...

  • That is my favorite song. U preformed it AMAZINGLY!

  • Wow... how awsome? o.O

    Very very nice! (:

    Thanks for the upload...

  • This is absolutley the best. We are doing this very same version in our Show Choir performance. This is very helpful. It's really hard to find the version you are looking for, but I did!

So thanks a million and keep up the excellent work

  • Awesome interpretation! You're a very talented pianist; however, you should know it's a bad habit to play notes and then just let the pedal take over while you take your hands off (in the beginning). It's best to hold your hands on the keys; other than that little thing, this is by far the best version of the song I've heard.

  • @RussianShadowStorm I completely agree. Good advice. Thanks for the tip.

  • @conicchil93 I find that listening to recordings of music you are playing on the piano is as important as practicing. . If you listen carefully to original recordings etc, you will memorize the dynamics of the song. When you practice you will find yourself naturally playing like the recording. One of the best pieces of advice I was given is to relax as much as you can while playing. Getting tense can greatly affect your ability to keep rythm as well as a natural feel. My 2 cents anyways :)

  • you are AMAZING!!!!!, are you a proffesional because you are fantastic!! this is the best cover of this song i have ever heard pleeaasseee make a tutorial!!! :)

  • @157alicecullen I'm just a rookie hobby pianist having fun. I would love to make a tutorial but the song itself is pretty tricky and loaded with key changes. A good knowledge of piano chords is definitely helpful with this tune. Perhaps there's a particular part you would like help with? Thanks for the comment!

  • hey! amazing video. what sheet music did you use? :)

  • @Sam4G0d I learned it from the official "Wicked" songbook which I bought online.

  • you're amazing...i'm jealous lol

  • Amazing, can you PLEASEE make a tutorial?

  • Amazing...

  • BLOODY HELL!

  • Great job! I learned a version where it is pretty much just chords. But what you did with this one is 10 times harder. BTW what type of piano do you use? Mine is a crappy old upright but I want an electric grand piano.

  • @BoBtB426 Yamaha Clavinova CVP-210. I'm a big fan of Yamaha and Roland keyboards. If you buy one, buy one of those.

  • wow ._. I love your version, you're great ._. I wish I could play Defying Gravity like you.

  • Wicked is one of my favorite shows....EXCELLENT Job! really enjoyed it, thanks for posting!

  • amazing! :D your a gifted piano player

  • That was a lovely piece, I enjoyed listening to it ^_^. Maybe its just me but I dont like the start, but hey im just one man/boy its just my opinion. Otherwise it was umm.... Beautifully Emotional? I dunno.... Just loved it...

  • WOW!!!! That was amazing!!!! I love the musical Wicked, (I'm doing my 8th grade project on it) and that was incredible!!

    -Sally

  • you did a great job...i know how difficult it is as i am also am trying to learn it with the songbook. it s a pity that you loose some of the melody when you play exactly what it is in the book because of the notes around the main theme.

  • you put a lot of emotion in when you played this. i can tell.

    i LOVE this piece.

  • Great job! The song I'm learning to play is 18 pages long and I normally memorize the whole song before I would think of recording my play through cause of the annoying page turnings :p But great job! I hope I will be able to play this amazing song soon :)

  • Very nice job! The only thing I was curious about was why your attack is to hard? Maybe it just sounds that way and actually isn't? Overall still an A+

  • lol it like me singing this song for chorus and this to practice with :3 keep up work :)

  • hey great vid, what is your piano as its reli good

  • It's a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-210. It's been a great piano. If you buy anything, I would suggest Yamaha or Roland. Both superior products.

  • Ive got a Roland, and its equally as good as a yamaha, youd be better buying either a roland or yamaha

  • Thanks for playing and posting this! I really enjoyed listening to this piece.

  • WAAOOOHH!! o.o

    thats 238472397935 stars out of 5 ;D.

keepp up the good work :3

  • i am playing this song too! it's like ten pages long! good job! mine is a different arrangement though

  • Make sure you post yourself playing Gravity. Different arrangements are always interesting to hear.

  • @spyderjosh will do, thanks!

  • Great Job! Best arrangement on the net hands down.

  • good job :DD brillant

  • Thanks! Loved the rubix cube video on your site. My kids want to build one now.

  • amazing job :)

  • amazing dude !! keept it up

  • Great job!

  • this is a beautiful arrangement! you definitely don't look or sound like an amateur player-your movement is really decisive and strong. great job!

also, your piano is awesome ;)
