@backbreaker95 - What make of drive do you have and what replacement laser have you used. i.e taken the part from. make sure all ribbons are properly put into connectors.

ok i was playing my 360 and it was fine i got of and got back on today and it wont read. the discs are not messed up iv had my xbox 360 for 5 years so do think its the laser.

Is there a difference between the different disc drives lasers?

I have a BenQ DVD Drive and I'm guessing the laser is damaged since it takes like 30 tries to get the disc to read. Besides that my Xbox 360 is fully functional. If they aren't different, could I get my HD DVD Player for 360, take its HD DVD DRIVE and insert it into my Xbox 360?

@BLACKaCH33Ze no you can't replace your BenQ with the HD DVD Drive...

You can replace your Benq with a (Xbox360) Samsung/Hitachi/LiteOn drive but you would have to flash it and spoof it so the xbox sees it as a Benq, otherwise it won't work.

can anyone help me i have been having problems with my benq drive so i replaced the laser but it was not lighting up so i used the right laser cable and it was but now it runs outside of the disc and does not read it and i do not know what to do now. I replaced it with a, last digits: 141X and it had in it a 14XX could it be because i am not using the right laser

@rvgpro I'm having the same exact problem but I put it together without removing the anti static ball which I will be doing later and trying again. That might be your problem if not please contact me if you get it working.

Does it matter what type of laser you get? I have a Lite on drive and im not sure if I need to buy a like a lite on laser or can i just google shop "xbox 360 laser"?

@WeTubeizm you definitely need the correct laser. just take a look at the top of the drive and it will tell you what type of drive you have, then search for the laser that uses that drive. make sure you get it right,

please help me! I stripped one of those screws that holds the metal clips on. i managed to get it halfway out using a dremel, flathead, and pliars. I have replaced the laser and now have the metal clip supported just by the threaded part of the screw backed out half way, there is no top to the screw! i do not think this will be sturdy enough for me to use it. does anyone know the size of these screws so that i can get a replacement? i've been out of an xbox for a week now :(

the video is from a webcam and kind of crappy but you can see the antistatic solderball at 02:29 and I'm desoldering it at 02:42.

It's pretty obvious on the laserhead, if you can't find it it's probably already desoldered and you bought a used lens.

how can you tell if it's just your laser thats fucked up or if its the whole DVD drive, because out of nowhere my xbox 360 can't read xbox 360 game discs anymore. I was playing it just fine like 2 hours before this started happening. It can read movies fine, haven't tried music CDs yet, but im guessing they work too, but it won't read game discs. It prompts me to clean the disc/restart my console, and it's ALL game discs too, not just one specific game disc.

no. mine just couldnt read xbox game discs. i cleaned the eye with some rubbing alcohol using a q-tip (drying it off with the dry side of the q-tip) and now it works perfectly again.
