I've been on that many times and it is amazing. The problem is its own success though. Too many people at rush hour and it's very hard to keep clean and repair. Granite steps in places are worn away and need to be replaced but there is no time to do it.
Nothing is ever free in economics. Absolutely nothing! The social benefits under Soviet Socialist system, such as housing, health care, cheap public transportation, higher education, etc. -- were all part of "compensation package" the communist regime was giving to the slave labor in return for work. Why are there still so many idiots today who refuse to understand this simple concept?
Btw, I absolutely looooooove Moscow metro, miss it like crazy, and cannot get enough videos about it. I love this video clip. Moscow metro is a living monument to the labor of many, MANY wonderful hard-working people who built it. We should give all the respect and admiration to them!!!

Crazy metro. Would have cost a lot of money to the Soviet Union.

"CommonAswhole", I'm not sure you fully understand how soviet socialist economy worked.
plenty of [practically] slave labor + abundance of natural resources.
it's not western capitalism, where government hires private contractors and pays them out of taxes it collects.
in the USSR government WAS ITSELF a ginormous enterprise, 100% of the economy was nationalized, and everyone was employed by the government.
privately owned businesses were actually illegal, they did not exist.

Can you receive e.g. a comfortable flat free of charge? No? But so-called-by-you-slaves could.
Envy is a bad habit.

Cos it's simply wrong.
Did you live in USSR?
And how you can say such a conclusions? Who said this wrong things to you? And where did he knew it? And so on

Да, я родился в 1968 году, и уехал в Штаты в 1992. Я, в отличие от 20-летних современных Россиян, знаю, как жилось в Советском Союзе.
