What a nifty number! A real "toe tapper" as they say! The talent & range of the late great Ella Mae Morse never fails to amaze me! The Queen of early RockNRoll! She should be in the R&R Hall of Fame as an early influence! THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! You've MADE my day & my week! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o! If Ella Mae had been any more cool, she'd have been frozen! :)
Thanks for posting this! 40 cups was a tune my dad used to play loud on the Altec 602 coaxial speaker in a big corner cabinet powered by a tube power amp. This was the earliest song to catch my ear around age 8 or so...prominent drums and bluesy...nice recording...
DAMN, she was good! Upon hearing "40 cups", well, no one has a right to be that good. MMM! This saucy big band swing stuff absolutely nails me. This particular song is just grrrrreat. Can't say enough good things about her, her voice, this song, or the YouTube stuff of hers I've heard so far. Instant fan, I am. How about that...
Ella definitely has the bluesy feel in her voice! And the guitarist was able to come out of the rhythm section & play some " lead " on this song!

This was the last of Ella's ten hits, charting at #26 in August 1953 as Capitol 2539. The backing band was billed as "Dave Cavanaugh's Music."

Sounds like Nelson Riddle but I'm no expert. I really like Nelson Riddle.

@JubalCalif My dad used to play this for me in the mid sixties. It is purely fantastic boogie swing and really in a class by itself!
