I've just read the autobiography of an old time American comedian called Harpo Marx, who adopted all four of his children. He was open with them about their adoption since day one. He describes very beautifully how he and his wife used to tell their kids about their adoption as if it were a fairy tale filled with adventure, suspense and a happy-ever-after resolution. The kids could not get enough hearing it.
Great vid Scott!! I just had a look at your other recent vids as well.
I also HATED high school!!! A lot of that had to do because I was gay..I just did not fit in.
You should adopt someday-you would make a great parent. I think Dave and I would have been good parents also. If I had it to do all over again I would... Next life!!
That is so nice of you to say. It really makes me feel good getting great compliments from good people. Being gay in high school is a very lonely and depressing time. Theres just no other way to get through it for some people than to just go though those years in utter misery
Brad, glad to hear your date went well! I think your adoptive parents did a great job! Your lucky to have a good relationship with them. The only way my high school ever looked good was in the rearview mirror. We had the same color skin, but I was different from the rest, making it one of the lonelyest times of my life. Glad I got past it, now I have a great partner and a great life! Thanks for your videos!!
I'm so glad that high school is over also. I was very lonely in high school also. I still to this day don't take to any of them from my graduating class. And it's so funny cause now on Facebook they want to be my friend and I just click ignore. Some of them are still living based of popularity points. YUCK! Call me on the freakin phone if you want to chat!!
Me and Bryan are very open with our kids about there past. When people try to hide things it jsut brings more questions. When we where in the adoption process I really wanted to adopt an african american child but there is a lot of resistance to that here in CA. The problem a lot of African Americans arnt adopting kids. So that leaves a lot of kids of coler left in group homes and foster care.
Hmmm see here in the UK they don't allow cross racial adoption. They used to and then it was changed at the turn of the century.
I have always thought that the policy is wrong. Here in London it means that most black children age all the way through the system without ever getting out of foster care because there are not enough adopters.
But perhaps I can see why it is a consideration. Perhaps race is a constant visual reminder that you are adopted. Having said that so will having gay parents.
But having thought again I still feel that cross racial adoption is not wrong.
Lots of children feel like outsiders in their blood families from time to time, especially adolescence, I don't think it is just a trans racial problem.
I think that while it may be a little more difficult to be adopted into a family that doesn't look like you at the end of the day it is a million times better than not having a family at all.
Here's my Issue with that policy.... I was a product of inter-racial fornication. The Koreans didn't want me because I wasn't a pure Bred and that was a huge taboo at the time. So if I would have grown outta the system and god knows where I'd be right now.
Exactly, if you had been in the UK they would have waited for ages for a Korean family and maybe one wouldn't turn up. Also you are half white but they would ignore the white part because of the visuals...
It is like the south africans classifying mixed race babies as "coloureds" in their sick system.
The system was brought in because black children in the 70s and 60s found being adopted into white families traumatic though. My argument is that this isn't the 70s anymore.
Unbelievable! In a way that's a form of discrimination. Not sure what the law is like in the UK but here that is a huge NO NO! And wow I just posted this LIke 5 mins ago!
@scottneumann82 I know, it is crazy. There are more race discrimination laws here than in the US but somehow the racial adoption preference doesn't fall into it.
I get an message on my iPhone when you post a video:D
