It isn't a black or white thing; unless you fall for the shadow party's propagated myth. Black Americans are just that. Black Americans. I am white. I am American. Teachers are people; Americans. Let's get real. What CAN we do?

@usurynation Of course it's true that individual blacks have IQs much greater than the white average. But when it comes to evaluating overall results, ignoring the lower average IQ, or insisting that that gap is due to "culturally biased" tests, environment, economics, etc., despite all of those notions having been repeatedly and thoroughly debunked, is as harmful to policy making as it is absurd and delusional.
Its that gangster mentality that is dragging kids down. Kids think they are tough by robbing things, starting fights, selling, taking drugs, talking smak to teachers. Iq has little to do with a being good student, its mostly psychology. They lack determination and perseverance.
Again, with schooling as with so many issues the liberal/conservative paradigm is insufficent. With schools it's not about getting rid of "liberalism" (a bastardize term as all conservatives know) but getting rid of politically correct fantasies and lies. The liberterians imply that if you introduced vouchers that suddenly blacks would score like whites. The fact is that 1. black schools will always be the worst 2. we need choose in education 3. and no more busing and forced integration.
Am I hearing this wrong, or are you advocating humiliating struggling students? Every child has the innate need for learning and growth, but environmental factors can destroy this and psychologically turn a child angry and sullen. Making school miserable is no way to improve results; it would only turn more and more kids off school.
@hanblum: Good students = good parenting, bad parents blame their students inability to learn and behave in schools on other factors, some of which you listed in one of your posts. Show me a good student and I will show you a good student who will be successful. Society is tired of complaining parents and their advocates blaming only the teachers and schools. I take my hat off to those teachers who work everyday with bad bad students. Blame them!

And why are the students bad? It's not the kids' fault. How are you supposed to be excited for school when you aren't getting enough food to eat; when you come from an abusive home; when your friends and family succumb to poverty or addiction; when you only have one parent at home who doesn't have enough time to help you with your homework or teach you to love learning because they are struggling to make ends meet on a minimum wage salary?

Someone hacked Prof Weissberg's Video page. The YouTube link points to some white supremacy site.
