  • This is amazing@!!!!! tutorial lol

  • i remember seeing this a few years back and i had hope the live action movie would have looked like this. sadly, we got the michael bay vision of the movie.

  • cool

  • this is integrated so well. nice compositing! and great animation. I literally thought the car was real at the start

  • better than stupid movie

  • Sunstreaker!

  • Ha! My uncle helped you with this! Coolness.

  • hi i want to learn the rigging for tranformer converting into robot nd vice versa... can you put up a tutorial or something plzzzz...

  • #D is amazing

  • They need to reboot Transformers the movie and put MICHAEL SMITH in charge!!!

  • I think the bots from Transformers The Movie ar more cool that from the cartoons

  • damn thats awsome

  • Michael Smith! Man, I wondered what happened to you. I had seen the new beetle clip way back in the olden days of the internet (2000?) and thought you were a hero. This fully confirms my suspicions. I'm sure we would have been able to actually see what was happening in the live action films if you'd been lead designer. Good luck on future endeavors.

  • It is a horrible crime that Michael Smith wasn't in charge of the designs

  • Fucking A right!

  • im just gettin into cgi work and im using maya, am i on the right track to doing what u just did?

  • Hey, what software did you use for the modeling and camera tracking?!

  • O_O marvelous!!!!

  • i love it! but it owulda been hlairous with how the bot truns an seems to move backwards to have a following shot of him fallin an bustin his rear end lol

  • I love your Binaltech look robot design.

Much better than Michael Bay's stupid designs.

  • AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck yea....transformers are supposed to look like Transformers....not fuckin bionicle shit

  • remains one of my fave Transformers clips.

i love how timeless this design is. and how little needs to be done to make it work in cgi/live-action.

to anyone who ever used the ''its not the 80s anymore'' argument: if this is true than they should have made something original.

and not just call a corkey movie ''Transformers''

80s-90s all the way until 2007 TFs look like this....and they still do.

    bayformer$ is just an anomaly

an odd boll in an larger franchise

  • Amen!

  • Damn that kicked ass!

  • how did you make it ?

  • woah! that was so realistic!

    great job! x

  • Off the Fucking hook !!!!

  • This annihilates everything to come out of Bay's "Trashformers." This is damn near what hey shoulda gone with. To think of all the extra effort it took to design the bots for the film. Terms like 'boxy' and 'cartoon-ish' almost boggle me. But what I do get from them doesn't seem bad to me. They shoulda focused on plot enhancement, and making the original forms look realistic. Most of their job was done. But no! Everyone has to add their flavor to a mix that has already been proven.

  • I had to come back & watch this again after seeing the preview for the sequel to 'Trashformers'; all 30 seconds of it's pitifully monochromatic depictions of cybertronians.

Watching this is a relief of sorts. Though not long enough. If I had the money I'd fund a TF fan film project if it would come out like this.

    Meh...just me bitching again.

And I havent even covered the music; Vince is true. Jablonsky is a copy.

Thanks for the negative mark, it reaffirms my individuality. :-P

  • not just you, i agree 100%.

if these movies were called anything BUT Transformers i wouldn't have one gripe.

  • Comment removed

  • this looks a million times better than bayformers, those look like they were made with silverware o.O

  • Yeah, so true it looks so real!!! (I still bet, the TF animation team WILL come knocking on your door someday...

  • if that ever happens i guess i'll have to offer them my silverware so they leave me alone =P

  • To be honest, yeah, you're right magnahelix! Sorry for the late reply. SO MANY COMMENTS!!!

  • how the hell did you motion capture it?

  • One awesome video!!!!!

  • great job. very detailed and realistic

  • HOLLY SH#T!!!!!!!!

  • cool animation

I bet it took a LOT of time to make

  • OK, that was totally badass, how the hell did you do that yourself?

  • GOD DANG that is badass!!!!!!!

    dude this animation is awsome

    great job

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • wish my z did that lol

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!

  • What a shame...I think the michael smith transformers is alot better then the hollywood transformers...allthough the hollywood transformers is great...but yeah...

  • OH Wow! a WINGED BUMBLEBEE!

  • fucking genuis man! only thing i can point out is that there is no smoke effects on the slo-mo version XD

    still tho BRILLIANT 5*

  • Awsome!3 wheels around the corner, lol, i woulda paid extra to see this car in tokyo drift while it blasted DK's car off the cliff

  • could have been intended to be a version of Sunstreaker. I have an Alternators Sideswipe (although it's a Dodge Viper) that transforms like that.

  • wow nuff said

  • pretty sweet

  • what software

and what hardware did u use?

  • looks like classics bumblebee

  • HOLY FREAKIN MOTHA WHAT THA----?!?!?!?!? THAT WAS SO TIGHT,, IT WAS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE. NICE WORK SMITHFORMER! LOL..

    DUDE, totally awesome!

  • Amazing 5\5

  • omg that's so awesome! It's even better than in the movie! Great job!

  • awesome! you've been used 3d max?

  • THAT WAS THE SHIT!!!

  • dat joint is tyt!!!

  • the face so totally looks like starscream or mrgatron!

  • That was the best one I've seen, Great angle and the animation was flawless. Great work!

  • it's fucking amazing !!!! it looks so G1 design but so real to! awsome work !!!

  • Damn. It has G1 looks and movie fluidity and flexibility. I love the wings as they just add even more character

  • the best transformer on youtube

  • That was awsome!

  • Awesome animation!

  • dang that was pretty sweet! good animation work!

  • Well personal, I like transformers, but the movie had better animation. I acually believed that there are acual transformers out there. And does the transform fall, because that is what i'm getting.

  • Are you fucking kidding me? The head model is just a tribute to the old school G1 stuff. You're being spoiled by the rougher movie designs.

  • You are complaining about a fictional thing looking real...and you use the word "duh". Funny!

  • cool.. have the G1 looks..

  • This is proof positive more G1 styled designs are a possibility.

  • Agreed. Better than twisted metal insect faces! Bionicles! Awesome animation clip. Inspiring!

  • that was great man,you know wat really gives it the appearence of a car transforming, the wheels are still spinning as it transforms, great video man, looked better than movie no lie

  • It was great that the transformers looked quite like the original ones.

  • a transformer with wings?

  • crap

  • Just kidding thats really cool

  • I agree with patronise nowadays movie directors are trying to entertain the audience through realism especially with imaginary or fake things, it's almost impossible to eye-catch with all the fast movement

  • I also agree. In the actual movie, I couldn't even tell what was going on at times because of the lousy camera work. This would have been much better.

  • wow. props

  • Wow, that was impressive. That right there was better than the 2007 film in every way. The character design was great (and you could actually see the character instead of just an overly complicated mess of parts), then camera work was great (it didn't pan too far left...as so often happens in the film so that only half of the robot is visible on screen) and it was exciting. But hey, is it just me or does the robot seem like he's about to stumble and fall over at the end?

  • Good post, patronise.

  • "But hey, is it just me or does the robot seem like he's about to stumble and fall over at the end?"

Yup. This Transformer actually has PHYSICS applied to it (unlike are ridiculously kung fu-fight Bayformers). *lol*

  • Would that make this one a Smithformer?

  • Perhaps. I want to see a feature length Smithformers movie. :) *l*

  • I would pay to see Smithformers!

  • nice

  • AWSOME, LOOKS LIKE SUNSTREAKER

  • i LOVE THIS, WHY WONT MY Z DO THIS?! DRIFT INTO A TRANSFORMATION HECK YEAH!

  • Shit, I forgot to get that option when i bought my z!

  • oh man! what a great transformation

  • perfect!

  • Sunstreaker was one of my fave bots, my dream car in RL is a yellow Dodge Viper, lol. I love this animation, but I prefer the newer look for the mvie. It just still looks too 80s and dated.

  • I wish this visual style was utilized in the film. It still wouldn't have improved an otherwise scatterbrained script though.

  • lol SICK!!

  • another reason btw as to why g1 were more boxie is because back then cartoon were more complicated to make. so they had to simplifie the shapes to make it quicker to draw to meet deadlines. and at the time that was what poeple thought robots would be like. the movie version are different because its now the 2000's and thoughts have become alot more complex looking. you have to rmemeber that the movie is trying to get general audiences aswell as the old transformer fans

  • "the movie is trying to get general audiences aswell as the old transformer fans"

I can't see how that line of reasoning makes ANY sense at all. The cartoon was made back when there WEREN'T any TF fans, yet new fans flocked to the franchise like nothing else. If it was that appealing for kids back then, why couldn't they be as appealing for kids today?

  • hay bob i know ''kids'' of today that loves G1 even one or two on youtube this video proofs bay wrong if bayformer$ looked like this it would still be a success and made 700 million dollars why? ''ITS GIANT F$@& ROBOTS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT!?!'' see how it works?

  • Aww, don't do that. You're sounding like one of THEM! *lol*

  • you know this but if people like bayformer$ for the cgi action and ''its giant robots'' then it doesn't matter what they look like its because that movie was made is the reason everyone are saying its better looking the same people would have gone too a ''Smithformers'' movie too

maybe a live-action Gundam wing (if made) would look more like Transformers now that would be ironic! ''the blocky look doesn't work...wow lets go see Gundam its giant robots too!''

  • (2) don't go yet bob you saw bayformer$ right? and enjoyed the plotholes? well i have a new one!: all the machines on Cybertron are alive right? so a ship (the Ark) is un-reallistic because why would a robot fly in a ship and so on...ok the Allspark makes robots out of any dead machine right? but if everything is alive on Cybertron...what dead machines can it make alive? HAH -ahem- also on G1 the Ark seems alive thanks too Teletran-1

  • (3) i can live with change/updates but dont tell me the blocky look is un-reallistic right bob?

  • Although I prefer the exotic alien look of the movie transformers, this is very good. This should make G1 fanboys/ranters happy.

  • better than the movie

  • Great to see a G1 design executed so well. Great transformation sequence.

  • ITS SUNSTREAKER

  • Awesome job!

  • movie was amazing , but this design is better !

  • WOW!! I love the Transformers!!

Did you know even Transformers do Yoga?!

    Search: Transformers Yoga

  • This is exactly what most of us wanted the movie to look like... not those SHIT-bots that all looked like they could barely move themselves.

  • Shut the fuck up Transfag. Seriously, they finally make a good live action version of the Transformers and all you people do is bitch and moan.

  • Something strange and white just came out of my peepee.

  • That's disturbing on, like, 8 different levels.

  • I'm interested in hearing about these levels.

  • It's an expression.

  • =d heheh

  • In my opinion this would've been more awesome then the designs used in the movie.

  • Cool.

  • amazing!! although i've watched the movie u still managed to amaze me wit dis creation!!! fuckin awesome!!

  • awesome!

  • WOW! That reminds me of the old Jazz Insert before commercials during the G1 shows.

  • it looks more like cgi not animation

  • CGI = Computer Generated Imagery.

Animation = Rapid display of a sequence of images or in this case, the movement of a 3d object.

So, you could say that this animation is a Computer Generated sequence of images.

  • BADASSSSSSSSSS Oh man I wish my Z could transform like that!!!

  • what method do you suggest to animate a transformer?

  • cool.

  • I just want to know how old were you all when transformers first aired cause I have seen some diehard fans that have accepted the new look? in no disrespect to your memories of the show cause I am more keen about beast wars than the 80s show , that clip was great but there are more people that this movie is intended to appeal to i mean if it would have been done they way you guys want it then it wouldnt make much money

  • I am a G1 fan. It is not that I have accepted the new look, it that it is acceptable for a live-action movie.

  • cool

  • The Transformers are supposed to look somewhat human. They have an organic beginning. And while I don't like the monster robot look of Bayformers I'll still watch the movie.

  • according to beastmachines....i hate that series though

  • I didn't really care for it either but G1 left alot of loose ends sooo that's what we have. There are still other referances that point to an organic beginning even the comic (which is badass). Human cybernetics are becoming more commonplace here as well to the point of being able to do small computer tasks with the mind but don't take my word for it look it up.

  • yup...well, not gonna argue w/ the justification for humanoid faces. i mean, look at the new OP, he looks VERY humanoid, so it's another one of Bay's double standards. Starscream could have easily had a more attractable face..but does he? no...

  • Indeed, I've been saying the same thing.

  • The Transformers were supposed to look somewhat human because G1 was made for children, and at that time children's television had so many rules to adhere to that the producers created a look that would both appeal to kids and receive the nod from executives. "Bayformers" as many call it, are intended for an older audience. The robots are supposed to be shape-shifting aliens , not mechanical looking humans.

  • Completely agree. People need to open up and accept that times change and over the years so have nearly all the incarnations of the separate transformers generations, i've just come back from seeing the new movie today, and even as a gen 1 fanatic, i can safely say this movie surpasses all expectations.

  • A "dizzy" robot isn't so farfetched. Maybe its CPU is directly connected to some sort of computerize gyroscope connected to it; with the gyroscope feeding it too much information from all the spinning, it can't maintain equilibrium.

  • Goofy and cartoony? You mean like "Starscream" flipping up onto that bridge? This animation is easily on par with anything in the movie and it proves that G1 style designs would have worked just fine. Damn you Michael Bay!

  • Amen brother.

  • if you looked at starscream flipping on to the bridge you can notice his arm getting clipped off...i expect a little more from ILM. they are a good studio, but hopefully clipping like that doesn't make it into the bigscreen

  • this is exatly why they look the way they look in bays film cause this just looks goofy and cartoony, bays transformers has more realism to it and is more up to date, just stay at home and wacth the old 80s cartoons if you want to see this.

  • Wow!!! that's what the Transformers movie should have been like!!! "Bayformers" would have been "Transformers" if only they looked half that awesome!!! I'd spend money to see this movie! "The only way I'd watch Bayformers is if they paid me" -Me

  • Overall, the video looks very nice but the final scene looks odd imo. It looks like after he transforms, he starts spinning around from all the dizziness because he was spinning around while transforming. Lol...

  • i think that was the intent...it makes it more 'real'. if you spun around at those speeds, wouldn't you be dizzy as well?

  • the michael bay's and spielbergs Designs are batter

  • Me too Sekuin! That was cool. If ILM rendored that with the materials on their professional grade computers, that would look even 200 times better and more realistic. Bay and company really dropped the ball with the new movie.

  • exactly...qft!

  • Very cool. I like the tires still spinning and the robot trying to stop the foward momentum after transforming. Nice detail.

  • Greatness.

  • makes me want to own a z

  • Makes me proud to own a Z

  • Till all are one.. or until Michael Smith and El Gooda collaborate on one hell of a real Nostalgic G1 based Transformers movie.

  • By far a better representation of Transformers than whatever the hell Michael Bay and Steve Spielberg are peddling. Nice work!

I guess we haven't hit our darkest hour yet...

  • this is better than the michael bay's and spielbergs Design great work Man

  • I don't know about you guys, but I definitely prefer this than Michael Bay's Transformers.

  • Definantly what the crap were they thinking? If only I had the power of the matrix.......

  • So, wait. You mean the guy that made this did NOT get the job? That's crazy!

  • Eh, I think it looks okay, but not for a serious action flick. Kinda goofy. Each to their own.

  • stop crying
