I'd rather programatically write my own games in C++, then do it with some game maker. Besides if you create your game in some sort of game maker, your game will have a lot dependencies and will require a ton of runtime support.

@Nidonemo Depends on whether you want to programmatically write your own game, or lets some program do the work for you. I'd recomend you learn some easy programming language like BASIC, Visual Basic, Dark Basic, or even C#, and start learning that first. After that, target some game application framework, like XNA or Allegro, I'd recomend XNA for C# or Allegro for C/C++. It depends, on a lot of things, and don't forget to know some physics, especially if you are going to build a 3D game.

@superdragoncrusher Yes I can recommend you a book; the book I use is really good, it explains in simplest terms, almost like plain English how to program in C++. Look up the author Herb Schildt, he has books that range from learning C++ for the first time to some intermediate and advanced stuff. Great book, I use it as a reference because I basically mastered most of C++.

that's it really apart from one's which need a bit of scripting and can be taught on the internet, I would recommend unity 3D

@bahamasartits hey, If you look at all the comments I have replied to you would see I have given this answer before.

No, you can not make RPG games and yes there is software which springs to mind if you want to make want.

If you have a mac and looking in to gaming as your career I would strongly recommend that you use Unity 3D. this is free and needs a small amount of script knowledge (This can be easily learnt with books about unity and the web).
