@ok4450 another leon aficionado. this is a great version. just listened to foghat who blew it out too. i love elmore james and the influence he had on everyone who followed him.
My first blues cover in the sixties, I was a thirteen year old guitarist. It's still a great song. These days my blues is filled with life's lessons. I really love this song !!!
Nice to see this as a single. I had it on the Looking Back album. Great memories of a band I grew up with Clapton, Green Taylor all producing some of their best stuff with Mayall. When the blues guitar was king and young people understood the blues. Nice Thorens TT too. Respect.
Thank you so much for posting this track. Pity your slide show doesn't feature Peter Green who made this track possible.
John Mayall never was a "Guitarist" but hired some of the best. CLAPTON, GREEN, TAYLOR. None stayed with him.. They all had their own paths to follow.
John Mayall was a band leader who hired the best muso's around but like the spotlight for himself. When I watched this slideshow with the pic of him on guitar I felt it was a mis-representation.. Sorry, just my opinion

thanks for your decent replying and showing your valuable opinion! however, i think you should have clicked 'reply' of other ones.
what i posted here only concerns about the backdrop information of this recording. i have never made any comparison between great Elmore James, Peter Green in here, and Eric Clapton, who already left this band when this recording was made.
the singer here is John Mayall and the guitar is played by Peter Green, who formed Fleetwood Mac with Mic Fleetwood (d) and John McVie (b), both of them are also featured in this recording, cheers.
but I agree, its better than most of the other covers, even the guitar is quite good. but NO ONE EVER will reach the thrilling, isisating intensity of ELMORE who was the greatest blues singer of all times, no bb king, no howlin wolf, no albert collins, muddy waters, no jb lenoir of lee hooker comes close. in fact, sometimes I believe ELMORE JAMES WAS NOT ONLY THE BEST - BUT THE ONLY REAL BLUES SINGER
i don't think we can really compare blues singers--it's a matter of stylistics and taste--tho we can pick out obvious losers in the blues genre (ever hear ray charles trying to sing the blues?)
i like a funkier brassier style of blues, like Joanne Shaw Taylor--she can be very gritty but still has a melodic sweet voice
get your ears out of the compressed bales of straw--clampon does great blues guitar but he sings like a white boy imitating a white boy who can sing blues a little

I agree with your opinion of vinyl and I have this 45. However, this track and its 'A' side, 'Double Trouble' were both reissued IN MONO, AT LONG LAST on the most recent reissue of John Mayall's 'Crusade' album, in 2007 I think.
I'd call these tracks essential.
Best wishes to all fans of Peter Green and Duster Bennett - the real blues Brothers!

As far as I know Mayall does play guitar even if not known for it as the Wiki pic shows.
Leon Russell is known for vocals/piano but the guy also plays trumpet and a mean lead guitar when he wants to do so.
This is great stuff. I don't know how anyone could sit through American Idol after listening to this tune.

Pure Peter Green Guitar here folks. I know the record well. Followed the history of "The Bluesbreakers" closely at this time.
John Mayall always had great lineups. Saw him with Freddie Robinson on lead In Dunedin NZ mid 1970's
