  • Juliaflo: i've got mel torme's version on 45.found it in 2005,and pretty good vocal version too.

  • My fav. version - I still have the 45rpm. Funny how this hit us at such a young age .We were usually listening to the Beatles etc but I fell in love with this 1st time I heard it - took my allowance and headed for the record store. Before Dennis used it for his show IIRC, 77 AM/WABC (NYC) had it in their rotation/play list - '64 or '65. (when I 1st heard it).Great arrangement & the sound engineer did an excellent job with the excellent drummer too. Loved drums ( and cymbals) ever since.

  • da war ich mal jung und hubs ...lollll

  • Beautiful tune! This always reminds Me of the rumour that when the late Alan Freeman was doing the chart rundown,He mistakenly announced it as Cast Your Wind toThe Fate.

  • I love you more than words can say, lifesaver.

  • heard this version before vince guaraldi's version.both are great to me :)

  • @wfarrar69 I heard a recording with Mel Torme singing the lyrics even before I heard Mr. Guaraldi's version.

  • It souds like a breath of fresh air.

  • Love the part from 1:20 to 1:50.....

  • i've heard three versions of this song.this was the first version.the other two were done by vince guaraldi and a vocal version by mel torme. great lp too.this tune's a classic and should not be forgotten.thanks.

  • aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Heard this as a little girl, about five or six years old. Never forgot it, even to this day. Was at a relative's house when I first heard it, either on a record or on a (transistor or stereo) radio at the time.

  • This hit by Sounds Orchestral was the 54th #1 song on Billboard's newly formed chart that is now known as the Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #10 on the Top 40 charts and #5 in the United Kingdom.

  • This is music from a much better time. We now live in a daily nightmare.

  • This is a peice of music I have forgotten! how could I? thank you so much for this, I have woken up to a time in my life when the world was a nicer place to be. Love & peace.

  • I remember the Jute Box in Grouchy's Restaurant -Lakewood, Ca. summer '65

  • At the time I imagined this sound to be what London sounded like. I always wanted to go there but it won't happen now. The song still brings back memories of better times.

  • This was the first record I bought...I might try playing this tomorrow, about 45 years later lol

  • Damn...I haven't thought of this song in years. It was popular about the time I got dumped by a high school girl friend...it seemed somewhat prophetic at the time...I didn't do too badly after "her"...I wonder what she became.

And I LOVE the album cover!

  • ne tremble mon pauvre coeur en français.....

  • good song

  • Heard this classic on CKLW while attending the great Kent ST University!

  • Among of the thousands of songs and music from US and the rest of the world, in Mexico City was greatly appreciated this song for its sound and its way to relax you. Thanks for the memories. Regards

  • it is/was just part of the good times. a truly, truly golden nugget, and so, so evocative.

  • WNEW FM What a Great Station

  • @chefed04 Did you ever listen to Make Believe Ballroom?

  • Don't know how or why, it was just part of the times....

  • I was in the Navy in a bar at Point Loma when this song first came out . I was sipping a scotch and soda and the bartender, from Australia, had played this song several times. I leaned over the bar and asked him what he thought of the song. He replied, he wished he hadn't done it--cast his fate to the wind. I think is is a great arrangement and I always have. Thanks for posting it.

  • I wonder what Vince Guaraldi thought of this. It's not very good, is it?

  • favo, greetz from Holland

  • I really thought that David Benoit's track (late 80's) of this song is just a cover as it sound familiar but I can't remember when or where I heard it. David's version is also good and liked it since. But this one has more strings. Now, I'm a fan of this version too.

  • I remember my parents listening to it in the late 60's when I was a kid. Great piece!

  • Just had to listen to this lovely song again. Thank you.

  • Great piece of music! Please have a listen to our new version of that 60s hit: TELSTAR by THE DUELLING PIANOS

  • A great tune, so catchy.

  • I just have to keep playing this, so enjoyable.

  • I was so young, maybe 7 or 8 and I liked this music a lot. I bought the 45t. I was leaving for a week end in the countryside with my parents.

  • Great instrumental from the mid-60s and their only hit.

If anyone has their nearly hit -- Have Faith In Your Love -- can you please upload.

  • This used to be the Theme Song of the Dennis Elsas Radio Show on WNEW FM 102.7 MHz in New York City in the early 1970's. I once called Him up on the Telephone (when You used to be able to do that) to ask Him what was the name of this Song and who performed it and He told Me that it was an Out Of Print Song called, "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" by Sounds Orchestral. Thanks for posting this on YouTube.Com for everyone else to enjoy.

  • @CharlesALundquist That's exactly right. Good memory.

  • @CharlesALundquist

I love Dennis. What a shame it is that he is now relegated to a minor radio station. WNEW-FM was considered the greatest rock and roll radio station that ever existed. Many of the top rock stars would only appear live on that station. Damn, I miss Dennis and Fats, Pete Fornatale, etc. I forget which one it was, but one of them took Bruce Springsteen backstage to meet the Who because Bruce was too nervous to go himself, thinking they wouldn't know who he was.

  • @CharlesALundquist Ah yes, WNEW-NY in the '70s... undoubtedly the best station on the air..period. God how I miss "The Night Bird" Allison Steele.

Radio seems to have died a lot since then...

  • Ahhh, Kenny Clare on drums

  • My mother was a classical pianist. She loved playing hits like though. I recall later when my brothers had the LP James Gang Rides Again, they include this among the killer rock songs. Look for it here on youtube.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 Look for the song The Bomber from the LP The James Gang Rides Again. It's 3.44 into the song.

  • So special x

  • The 1st 45rpm I ever bought!! Sounds timeless!! Great to hear it!!

  • What a classic...have not heard this in at least 25 years...brings back memories of some of the greatest years of my life...this version was always my favorite...thanks for posting this work of art.

  • I was more Rolling Stones, but my brother bought this album and I loved it! Great memories and so evocative of the 60's - where did all the good music go?

  • First released in 1964 in the UK. Highest position in the UK charts was number 5 on December 3rd 1964. In all it spent 16 weeks in the UK charts - in particular it was popular on the pirate radio stations.

  • At first I didn't know what year this song came out. But now I know. It was the spring of 1965, when I was only in second grade.

  • Always LOVED this! Thank you, so much.

  • I remember this well. Just lovely and there is a quality to this song that almost makes one feel as though they could soar if they really tried. It is one of those songs that is larger than life. Love all the musical variations within it. Thank you.

  • @gva0917 Didn't see your id until the end of your comment, but the tone of it was sounding familiar, sweetie! This is a great cover of Vince Guaraldi's 1962 composition & original recording which led to Vince becoming the musical 'voice' of 17 Charlie Brown features! Vince is one of my greatest heroes - he probably introduced jazz to a billion people who would otherwise never have heard it. Found this in faves of my newest subscriber! chuck

  • Of all the "versions" and "Re-writes" and "transcribes" that are on ewetube non have the "soul and feeling" of this version by Sounds Orchestral IMHO !

  • One of my favorites!

  • Dave here. svb9: Who got back up first? You or the pony? I have this mental image of the pony up first, coming over and nuzzling you to see how you are. Seen too many movies, I guess. Looks like the girl in the picture cast more than her fate to the winds. Would like to've been there! ( ^_^ )

  • @Myrtle791 ??? Only just read your post. This is spooky "Dave here"! My friend's pony, who I was riding down the hill to meet before we got trashed in the snow, was called Myrtle... Just listened again - so many memories! P.S. Who did you want to be there for? Me face down in the snow, or the girl in the picture!!! Got to play it again.......

  • Number one song in 1965, beamed by 50,000 watt CKLW. CKLW was North America's top rock station of the 60s. Based in Windsor, Ontario Canada, CKLW was the number one rated station in the Detroit. Toledo and Cleveland markets and throughout the mid-west. This tremendous song got maximum playtime.

  • @TJGeorge1369 50,000w is that ERP or TPO :-)

  • lovely performance !!!

  • This definitely brings back some wonderful memories! Thanks for posting!

  • I love this sound.

  • I was only in second grade then. One of the many songs that you don't hear on the radio anymore.

  • Ah, yes; this is THE version! Indeed; "Magnifique"!

  • Im 15 and i love this music, every time i listen to it, it brings back memories of the very first time i heard it. its definately one of my favourite pieces of music

  • Gosh, I can so remember this album! Senior in high school in Texas

  • Magnifique, que de merveilleux souvenirs. Les premiers accords me faisaient venir les larmes aux yeux ; Amazing, wonderful memories of that . The opening chords made me come to tears ! I was young !

  • I love the haunting, sort of I'm- lost- tonight sound of this song. In the sixties when it came out I'd put it on my stereo and think about that girl, or girls, who do their wordless singing that means more sometimes than words do. I guess it's the feeling they add to the music. And of course I could imagine myself holding hands with one of these girls more than willing to cast my own fate to the wind..... ah , the dreams of youth. The past is not dead, it's not even over with.

  • listen also to the Version from " Apollo 100 "

  • This was the essence of Swinging London of the mid-60s. I was 14 and tried to imagine the double decker buses and Carnaby Street and all else associated. I never got to go there and never will now, but it's 'London' to me. Perhaps my fantasies of that perfect city are better that the reality?

  • @67rml Well speaking of essence, Petula Clark's Downtown was one of my very first favorites. It made me dream.

  • Wow. This brings back a flood of memories. I think my parents had this LP.

  • This song should never be overlooked as well as classical gas, a walk in the black forest, soulful strut and wonderland by night! Thanks for posting this!

  • Nice version of the song. My favorite is still the original by Vince Guaraldi and his trio (which he won the grammy in 1963 for Best Original Jazz Composition).

  • @jimraw1 ......And deservedly so.

  • Not bad for a British band, got together by John Schroeder, Steve Alaimo's vocal is in my opinion the best vocal version. Great record.

    Thanks for post.

  • One of my all time favourite instrumentals. It's used heavily in ITV's Heartbeat and always takes me back to the 60s. Thanks for posting.

  • One of my favourite all time instrumentals - used heavily in ITV's Heartbeat. Thanks for posting.

  • So good !

  • This record reminds me of LBJ.

  • Actually made it to #10.Why can't oldies radio play lost nuggets like this.

  • @doglips1958 XM 60's on 6 played this a lot before the merger with Sirius.

  • Thanks, Boswell, this is some of the best music on earth! God bless Vince for writing this, and the 60s DJs for knowing a good 'B-side' when they heard one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chkjns This so reminds me of wonderful happy family times when all was well with the world. I lost my wonderful dad 2yrs ago and still miss him. There is a carefree sunny feeling to this tune that will always be special to me. Makes me smile and cry at the same time.

  • @twinkletoesyful That 'carefree sunny feeling' is the soul of Vince Guaraldi ! !

  • Great Art like this is Eternal.....

  • great song; it was the theme for my senior prom. Lot of good memories from back in the day.

  • Yip remember this one. Interlude on tv for the wahine. I belive it sunk in gale force winds. I dont think they played it after that

  • I was in my freshman yr of college when this came out, it is such a great song, the highlight was when we had Vince Guaraldi come to campus and he played this also. Sounds Orchestral is my favorite.

Thanks for posting.......yep had to leave college for Viet Nam......

    Thanks again

  • classic feel good music. i see this one's been covered here already. very good

  • I was 14 years old when this song came onto the radio. I remember hearing it quite regularly, holding my transistor radio as I skate boarded along the streets of Bondi Beach, here in Sydney, feeling the beautiful sea breeze - casting my own fate to the wind, so to speak. Thanks for posting. Macs

  • Wow!, what a blessing this youtube suff. Thanks Boswell69

My older sister brought this record from Paris to our little town in Spain, back in the sixties. I was ten and this theme is one of the reasons why I´m a lover of jazz and classical music since then. The record had a different picture, though, a little less tacky. Anyway... this music is superb.

    Cheers from Spain

  • I heard it when I was 10..heard it again the other day & thought I know that music..took me another 45 yrs to hear it again.. class and welcome to old age oh sh it

  • What a great instrumental. I just love the piano solos. such talented people. thanks for the post

  • Just had to listen to this again. Thanks for posting. Reminds me so much of early childhood. Thank you. x

  • I'm originally from Texas and this music reminds of when I was a teenager and one of my aspirations was to cruise down the highway in a Corvette. Something akin to the popular Route 66 (I think it was called that) tv program.

  • Brings back early childhood memories. Brilliant. Think the B side was To Wendy with love. Thanks for posting.

  • Released April 4, 1965. Remember it well from driver education class in high school (GCHS, Granite City, Illinois).

  • Good memories.

  • @tinkmarz1 Thanks for the release date! I was in a military hospital when I heard it for the first time, it must have been in juli. I searched 35 jears to find it!

  • @tinkmarz1

I am in awe that you received driver education in High school.

I was also jealous at 16 because I believe that in the States you could hold a driving licence at that age.

Unlike here in the UK where a car mad 16 year old had to wait a further year before getting behind the wheel.

  • @tinkmarz1 WNEW FM THEME new york new york

  • @spacepatrolman You are corresc sir. Good memory.

  • I think the "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" album was 1965 or '66. "Downtown" (then a recent tune) also appears on the album.

  • .....check out the flipside.....To Wendy With Love......

  • Superb! Riding down hill on my pony Memphis going cross country in the snow to meet my friends (in the 60's) - leather clad transistor radio - pony bowled over in the snow - laid there and this was playing! Bliss. We both got home OK and I got a bollocking from my Mother!

  • @svb9

  • @svb9 Good memories. Glad you enjoyed!

  • Hi! Not sure if Memphis, my pony, is still enjoying it! She is buried in my back field and is probably thinking "Oh no - not that damned music again - Turn the volume down"! Cheers!

  • @svb9 Hey that sounds like fun.

  • It is still possible to buy this original album. Just look on the online auction sites.

  • Does anyone know where I can get a download of the LP in MP3 in the UK. It would be a great Xmas present for my Dad at 83.

  • Was student, use to study engineering math listening that song think you

  • me too, only I was in the 5th grade, spring of '66, when I first heard it, and the song was used in a school play we were doing. Still remember it!

  • So sixties. Kind of a bittersweet, haunting tune...really like it.

  • I remember this from my childhood. I was around 5 or 6. Brings back memories. Beautiful instrumental.

  • Like you I loved this. Wish I could find more tracks from the LP.

  • Wait a minute here...................

Is the woman on the cover of this LP standing on the shoreline completely naked?

Kinda looks like it to me.

I would have thought that this would have been frowned upon in the late 60's (or whenever this album was released).

  • ah, but you see, she is casting her fate... along with most all her clothes....to the wind. And the wind took them away.

  • this was around 1963 or so 'Between the end of the Chatterley ban/And the Beatles' first LP. (Larkin) so all was starting to happen; sex, love and rock 'n' roll. It was when England lost its virginity!!

  • @nudist0885 Hahaha yeah "frowned upon in the late 60s or whenever

" no in the most liberal era in history? It's 1965

  • Oh my goodness - thank you!

  • you're welcome.

  • beautiful melody - greatest jazz track ever? i think so. thanks for postings

  • you're welcome.

  • Yes, thanks so much for this. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • Glad to hear that. You're welcome.

  • I have always loved this,But lost track of it over time.Hearing it again is like knowing you must have done the right thing all those years agoso again,I cast my Fate to the Wind. betty

  • always loved this track thank you for the upload
