This isn't as bad as people might think. They are outside where it is noisy, and things like humidity and other weather conditions, noise pollution, and emissions contribute, either positively or negatively. The microphones are designed for talking and not singing, and the today show probably doesn't have Echo, Repeat, Delay, and Reverb on their mixing desk. So it isn't going to sound as good as they truly are in the appropriate environment and conditions.

part of the reason some of these actors may not sound the best is because they are outside and believe it or not it sounds different bc they aren't in a theatre that has great acoustics. also, some of these songs were written especially for Anthony Rapp's and Adam Pascal's voices. What You Own is one of them.

i think this cast does a well enough job. not my favorite, but they aren't terrible. I wouldn't feel robbed of a great experience if they were the cast I saw.

Also, at least give the guy some credit for doing the role of Roger. It's a reeeeaaally hard role. Emotionally, definitely. But also physically. It does a number on your vocal chords. He has my respect.

I may get chewed out for this, but I don't think that this cast was /too/ horrible. I liked the Joanne, and the Mark was okay.. But yeah. The Roger was pretty horrible. The actor tried to make him far more rough and bad ass then Roger was. Overall, not my favorite, but it wasn't the worst I've seen.

Despite what people are saying, they're *not* bad. There's probably a bias toward the original cast or whatever, but these guys are being recorded live. It's always going to sound weird. They don't have the acoustics of a stage, and maybe someone wasn't feeling their best--it happens. o_o; Don't go calling them crap for that. This cast, especially Mark and Roger, are really under par compared to both the original cast and the closing cast seen on the "Filmed Live On Broadway" DVD. Also, the staging is really poor. I know that for real shows they would obviously have the same staging as the originals but whoever did the staging for the Today Show special left a lot to be desired. :-(

what makes anthony rapp and pascal an amazing combination is rapp has this really amiable geeeky look, and pascal is really good looking. this cast here is the exact opposite, rapps role looks like hes too good looking to be playing that geeky role, and pascals role is to this guy who looks like he should be playing football, not singing.
