Don't fight it man. It was a Toyota crashing into the back of my wife's car. I think I'm afforded the opportunity to make joke at Toyota's expense. And it's not ignorance chap. The reality is that any impact from a car, from behind will result in "a force pushing up." The test doesn't attempt to simulate anything you'd likely encounter in the real world unless you are blind or a very lousy driver. Also, any SUV with the tire mounted this way would likely suffer the same fate

Because the spare tire is under, or inside the car. Any SUV with the spare on the door will be susceptible to this type of damage. See Honda CR-V.

If you watch other crash videos of similarly designed rearends you will see the same thing happen. The tire takes the impact and deforms the tailgait enough to pop the glass. Not the end of the world

I'd rather have a car that would let me live that pops a $400 piece of glass than one that is rock solid but will kill me dead at 25mph.

Its because of the tire, but that tire has saved my ass from a jaguar. The jag pulled out of a parking space and hit it at 10 MPH and it ripped the right fender up on his, ($4000 maby more since it was an expensive model) and no affect on the Jeep.
