  • great story!

  • You should`ve hugged him... That would`ve touched the whole world even more...

    Well done~~one dream, one world!!!

    Kia Kaha!!!

  • You shuld`ve just hugged him!!! That would`ve touched the whole world!!!

    Kia Kaha!!!

  • @jazzx251 although I agree with everything you say about Mandela, you're completely wrong about not daring to visit any other african country. You should get more information on that. It's a huge continent with other beautiful countries while South Africa is still a very dangerous place to visit and to live in (especially if you're an immigrant).

  • two amazing people who have such incredible respect for each other. makes me proud to see

  • watching this after the movie, Invictus

  • Pienaar is an arse-kissing traitor. I hope all ANC arse-kissing South African teams and individuals have the worst of luck! Pienaar is a commie......Madiba.....oh fuck, what KAK is this? Pienaar knows Mandela is a terrorist, and his atrocities are well documented!

  • Gracias Francois, gracias Madiba, 2 grandes personas que han hecho mucho por la reconciliación, un ejemplo a seguir !!

  • what a decent man!!

  • I was a teenager in the US when the World Cup took place, so I really didn't know about it until Invictus. Since seeing the film, I've been researching as much as possible. Thank you for posting this video.

  • I may be from the united states of america but the rugby world cup truly makes history no matter what countries teams are playing.when countries are divided, rugby makes them united.South Africa Springboks And The New Zealand All Blacks Rugby Matches Are Always Exciting And Great to watch.i'm proud of you francois

  • Afrikanas are the most beautiful on earth and that year was a great year for the nation. they are all africans.

  • Bloody pompous rugger rah rah toffs and a terrorist....

  • @GanEdenAustralia Oh yes, you got that right!

  • FP is an arse licker. Mandela has turned the country into a shithole mate.

  • @DaSlug32 well said

  • INVICTUS GREAT TEAM GREAT NATIONNN.........

THE CHAMPIONS NOT FOR THE SOUTH AFRICA THE WORLD CHAMPIONS ......

    MANDELA YOU ARE THE LEGEND

  • what a great man..... i hope the current leaders of South Africa can emulate his and Mandela's spirit.

  • Why did his son run to Mandela and told him he wanted him to be his godfather? How did the kid come up with that request? Maybe because at his age, with the eyes of a little boy and through his innocent mind, he saw the greatness in a man like Madiba.

  • Lol - how times have changed ...

I remember watching "Spitting Image" in the 80s - and they were taking the piss out of South Africans with a calypso that went:

"I never met a nice South African,

And that's not bloody surprising mon,

We're a load of arrogant bastards,

    And we hate black people!"

  • @jazzx251 Shame on you traitor!

  • I've watched "Invictus" just now. I always take these biopics with a pinch of salt.

In the movie, Francois wins the world cup and Nelson says "Thankyou for what you have done for our country" - Francois says, "no, thank YOU".

I thought, moving as it was, the scriptwriters were taking a bit of license to jerk the tears.

But, this video confirms what happens in the movie - which now makes it a must-see - an extraordinary true story.

  • @jazzx251 Yep, its one of the few times the reality is far to extraordinary to be contained in a movie.

  • @jazzx251 Invictus is a piece of shit movie, and FP is a traitor of the highest order as he knows what the terrorist ANC did under Mandela, ie bombings that killed scores of civilians, women, children.....I hang my head in shame to think that FP is South African, the bloody self-serving quisling and terrorist lover..........

  • @OuKrokodil

It was a shit time for everyone.

Do you not, at least, give credit for Mandela putting on reconciliation tribunals instead of a witchunt when he gained power?

  • @jazzx251 No. He should have been hanged for his crimes in the first place. Even Amnesty International refused to help him, as he was not a political prisoner; he was convicted for acts of terrorism. He should NEVER have been in power.

  • @OuKrokodil

You say one thing, others say the opposite.

I can only go by the actions of Mandela after he was released from prison, spending 27 years in there.

He could have gained power and mercilessly gone after the people who put him in the can.

He didn't. He chose to break the cycle. Thanks to him, South Africa is now the most respected African country in the World (it's the only one I would dare visit at the moment anyway).

  • Am I the only one who loves the story of Pieenar´s son, Stephen? Because I think it´s princeless!

  • @DaniMajor No way are you the only one! That was just too lovely. How cool is it if Mandela gives you the nickname "the brave one"?! I don't think it gets much cooler than that

  • @DaniMajor

Go on Dani, save me a trip to wikipedia ... :)

What is the story of Stephen?

  • @jazzx251 It´s in the vid. It´s the story of Pieenar son who wanted to be Mandela´s godson

  • Francois could lead their country in todays political turmoil

  • Thank you for posting

  • Mandela is an amazing man, a brilliant leader, a humble soul...He understood the best thing for the country..and himself, was to promote and embrace forgiveness.

  • yo man after just watching invictus this WAS PRICLESS

    thanks for posting it

  • thank you for posting !!!

  • Ruby, isn't that the game played by rubber bubbers ?

  • That's what I thought when i saw the film: 'give him a hug!' emotions are more important than protocol.

  • Could you imagine if he did hug him! There's a great bit when Pienaar received the trophy and held it aloft - Mandela is behind him doing the same thing - as Pienaar said, the only words to describe this is powerful.

Ruby is great,a ll the same.

  • whos ruby?

  • you're an ass

  • @karlitob1983 Who's tha FUCKS is Ruby???

  • @karlitob1983 Who's tha FUCK!!! is Ruby???

  • @rancidglass i agree..., who's is Ruby

  • Im not gonna lie...but almost cried with these words..."in the end, its all about leaders..." I like Rugby, springbok's were beyond Rugby...and that's why they are the best rugby team in the world...

  • Pinear and Mandella are the only South African men that do not have big egos. The rest of them are narcisstic idiots

  • A very inspiring man, not many have the clear-mindedness to full-fill his true potential.

That hand-shake is historic, at least.

  • He's such a bloody fantastic bloke one of the best they should make him president of South Africa

  • 2011 ..nº1..SPRINGBOKS

  • next 1 is in NZ 2011

  • Yeah the poisoning is very factual. The waitress admitted to doing it, and the boks didn't really defend against the accusations.. Plus a load of the players (included Lomu) were sick. Impressive that the All Blacks managed to squeeze extra-time out of it.

  • All-Blacks should have won 2007 as well but didn't, what's the excuse for that one? :-D Suzie's sister...lol....

  • Uh? Nah they sholdn't have won 2007, the faggots managed to lose to a bunch of snail eating rats.

  • So what was the All Black's excuse for sucking in 2007? Did someone put Deep Heat in their underwear or something?

  • @sibermonkey we got beaten by a better team that night...

  • I'm Australian - just stating an obvious flaw in the story. Not making excuses for the Blacks. Honestly either team winning couldn't make me feel warm and fuzzy.

But yeah, probably the guys yacking on the sideline is a good indicator that the team was genuinely sick.

  • Very inspiring tale. And interesting to hear such passion even in reflection from Pienaar.

The part that Invictus fails to portray is that the Boks won against a team (including Lomu) ill with food poisoning

  • Alleged food poisoning, what losing team wouldn't blame it on something or another, too hard just to give South Africa the praise they deserved, it was a close match, both teams played their hearts out, that's All Black rugby though they're so proud and think they are unbeatable they had to blame it on something, when last did the All Blacks last win a world cup again? 1987, are they going to blame the other 3 world cups they threw away on food poisoning too?

  • Nope. Just this one.

  • no no they really were food poisoned, its quite factual. im not a particular fan of the ABs but 4 players and 2subs start puking on the sideline. lol

SA needed that win more than the ABs, not saying it was right but i wudve done the same if my country needed it that much.

  • I just saw Invictus this afternoon. What an inspiring movie! Congratulations to South Africa for their historic win...and to New Zealand, who even in their own way, was able to contribute to this momentous event forever marked in history.

  • He looks very sensitive to the human rights and stuff. Glad about that.

Btw, does anybody know something about the song?

    Thanks

  • Proudly SA!

  • His ears are bigger than matt damon

  • so is his nose

  • Dumbo was double-booked.

  • So is the rest of him! He dwarfs Matt.

  • What a wonderful testimony; very heart warming. Mandela's actions and demeanor were a blessing to all who wished for reconciliation.

  • whats the name of the song played throughout?

  • Pre game, the old man coming into their change room. The team looked at him in his green jersey and hat smiling, wishing them good luck. They won the cup for the old man first, then their country.

  • It was a very hopeful, magical and special time in SA, thanks to both Francois and Madiba.

  • that is heartwarming:)...Fantastic!

    Well said Francois.

    All Black fan 4 eva

  • that was a great game, of the most memorable. To me the Kiwis had probably the best team ever, but the Springbock could manage to beat those titans and did achieve something epic.

A gentlemen, a real leader, an exellent player and a great human being.

  • the way they defended agaisnt lomu was out of this world. Lomu was in superb form and destroyed English defense, his 1st try he even runs straight to a english defender and steps on him. But i guess even with a guy like Lomu, South Africa was very motivated and manage to win.

  • Joost, with a broken rib landed the first hit on him. Legendary stuff.

  • What a gentleman. A credit to South African Whites.
