@thegoatboy69 how dare you great big sea is the greatest band ever to come from canada i dont care who runrig is they dont come clo to GBS i think you should rethink your answer
So funny. They are who actually wrote this song, though GBS had to alter it as most Canadians wouldn't know what a "caman" is. The song is originally called, "Pride of the Summer". The big clue to that would be in the suggestions to the right of this video.
Runrig are a celtic rock band, singing in both Scots-english and Scots-Gaelic.
@thegoatboy69 NOPE and i don't want to im a true blooded canadian and i love great big sea im sorry i came off strongly at first i listened to runrig their ok but we can like different bands my bad but really listen to GBS live you might like them better! :)
i miss it down home so much, great big sea is one of the best things to come out of newfoundland EVER!!! that have never embarrased newfoundland, they have shown honor and respect to all of the world.
I just saw them in concert for the very first time in my hometown of Buffalo. They were phenominal!!! Anyways, they sang this and I am now obsessed with this song.:)
@CarlieCurlyQ This song was written by the band Bruce Guthro sings in now.
The 2 writers for Runrig Calum and Rory MacDonald, the lyrics have been altered a little, but it's all about (the original) the market square in Portree, the Isle of Skye in the North West part of the Scottish Highlands.
These song is from the album Something Beautiful*, And Runrig does a termendous job. Runrig is a wicked cool band and i hope to get one of there albums sometime soon. The DVD's are the perfect example of true LIVE bands.Runrig and Great Big Sea are both wonderful bands! :D
@greatbigsea247 I love the way GBS are based on more folk than Runrig, was actually blown away by how genuinely talented they are.
I don't think Sean or Big Al really appreciate how good they genuinely are, great bunch of lads too, they'll be going for years to come I hope, seen them twice live supporting Runrig, want to see them on their own soon though!
@greatbigsea247 GBS don't seem to take themselves too seriously, their a great bunch of lads a credit to themselves.
Runrig are exactly equally as talented but they I don't know just understand their position and stuff, it's great, but what this song was originally about for when Calum and Rory wrote it was about Portree on The Isle of Skye, but this version is just equally as good, it's great that they covered this I think and changed some of the lyrics to fit them, wonderful song!
Just one note I really do love both GBS and Runrig allot, as far as I'm concerned Great Big Sea can cover any Runrig song they want and I think they have improved over the years sooo much and I wish i could see them live Great Big Sea rock, saw them in 2001 supporting runrig, wasnt that sure about them but ive got 2 of their albums off itunes and also imported their Courage & Patience & Grit live show cd and DVD and I was really impressed!
Ahhh lovely to hear this ace song from Runrig by one of the bands I have been able to know about through Runrig, I love this version its really nice makes me smile sooo much VERY WELL DONE GUYS!! and thanks for uploading this where did ya get it? (ive seen this been played by Runrig countless times and still love it live, like they way they changed the words, Bruce usually says at live shows, we stopped for a rest on the banks of the ness after the Beat the Drum Borlum outdoor.

GBS are OK, but they are not a patch on Runrig.
I do also wish that they would learn to pronounce the word "loch". They sound like English people when they say it as "lock".

Its not actually their song they rewrote pride of the summer by Runrig.
Thats the original, GBS just changed to apply it to them.
By saying its by Great Big Sea is not at all true in that sense, this isnt the original.
