Beavis and Butthead brought me here. If there's a scene of Peter Griffin watching in Family Guy, Peter would say, "I can tear off my face, too." Peter would do something dangerous to his face and yell, "OOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW! SOMEBODY CALL 911!" That would mean Family Guy would increase 150 views to a million
The robot knows it exists, and realizes it is all alone. It goes mad, and kills its self. How could an entity tolerate the state of knowing it is a machine?
I remember watching MTV's "world premiere" of this video back in '86, and I never saw it again since. Only clips of it on their commercials. The VJ described it as something like "the robots in Herbie Hancock's 'Rockit' gone horribly wrong."

this video is funny I think I saw it on bevis and butthead many years ago and thought like them it was sick the way he rips the skin off his face think this guy has watched the temonator too mutch and wants too be arnie I think but as I say a top freakey video of all time I think very funny and very cool.
Lou Redd is awesome and this vid shows it,He's like ripping off his whole body and yet still singing, hahaha that's what I call a rocker and the fact that Beavis and butthead liked Lou and this video from him is even cooler.good song indeed!
Memphis Tn, had a punk rock club called the Antenna back in the early 80's. I saw this for the first time there, and it blew my mind! I've always wanted to see it again, but haven't been able to find it until now. This is wicked cool!
The first and only time I saw this my cousen and I laughed because of how far it went with the destruction of his face and we were I figure really creeped out by the video.
I say this when I was 3 years old by myslef. It was on my dad's VHS and it had Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Promotional videos for Get Back and Day Tripper, an interview with Brian Wilson, and then Beavis and Butthead watching this... I ran upstairs
But yeah I know what you mean. If you have a pair of nuts and you're not a toddler this shouldn't creep you out.... and this isn't a bad tune either, it's rare to find a good 80s song by Lou. His 70s tracks are astounding, and after that he kind of putting out weak material, except for the LP New York.
I believe Lou had argumentive reservations about appearing in a music-video, saying that he found the trend superficial... And he'd sooner rip his face off than have it appear in a vid. I guess the directors & conceptualists heard that & thought: "Y'know... that gives gives me an idea!" And the video was born. Lou seemed to always want to provoke thought with his music, and do it in an artful, enjoyable fashion. This vid is an example of it. Bravo, Lou.
I saw this vid only a couple times when it came out, then never again... Until now. Went nuts for years trying to find the song, because I couldn't remember anything about it but the chorus. Then... a saw a re-run of a episode of SNL, with Lou on it & recognized him. Once I learned his name, I went to look for the song... And found it! Lou's music is good for when you want to get your thoughts involved in it. BTW: I tried to look like Lou did here in jr.-high... But to some I looked like Ahnuld.
Check out some of his music when he (somewhat) fronted the Velvet Underground back in the late 60s. Their first two albums, "The Velvet Underground and Nico" and "White Light/White Heat" are without a doubt in my top 10 most favorite albums of all time.
As for Lou's solo stuff, "Transformer" is my favorite album of his.
My oldest son was 2 years old and we were watching this video for the first time on MTV together and he freaked out screaming and ran out of the room. All I had to do was say Lou Reed and the kid freaked out! He's 24 right now and I posted this on his Myspace comments! I can't wait to see what he says! HA HA
Ahhhh! God...I remember seeing this video on VH1 Classic when I was a bit younger (19 now) and it creeped me out even though I knew it was a robot Lou Reed...it doesn't freak me out AS much now lol but it still does...
I was another child of the 80s, totally freaked out by this one. Weird how this kind of avant sensibility used to work its way into the mainstream every now and then. Proto-fuel for the surrealists of today.
At first, this video looked kinda scary, until my older brother (I was probably 8 at the time) reassured me that Lou was really a robot. Then I wasn't so scared, and actually kinda liked this video. Not surprisingly, the video was shown only a couple of times on MTV. (Of course, the fact that neither the song or the album did very well saleswise could have had something to do with it.)
This video freaked me out when I was a kid, and that was before the robot Lou tears off his own face. You can tell from the start that something is off. Definitely proof of the "Uncanny Valley".
Looks a Lou Reed with Down Syndrome.

NoisePollution365 2 years ago
Yes, we should show all plastic, race changing paedophiles our utmost respect.

Sometimes people should just keep their opinions to themselves. You may not have liked him, but millions of other people did.
