Considering your position, stack, and players left in the field, J8 suited is a great hand all in. Not only were you live, but there was only one Ace left in the deck. In other words if you hit a J on the Flop, which you did, you could only be knocked out by the K, which also came. Aces played a small factor in this hand. You had plenty of outs against these strong hands, any club, jack, 8 or 10.
When short stacked, you gotta make moves you dont like. This is a great play due to position.
I was in your same position last night in Midnight Madness with K9h and raised the blinds 3x. Someone shoved me all in with AK and ofcourse I had to do it, or else I would have been out of the tournament in the next few minutes. Turns out I donkey'd the river to finish my flush which gave me my opportunity to finish 25th in the tournament. Thanks to your series, Mr. Smith.
The statements you make in the first 20seconds, "If you happen to make it to the second hour you have out lasted 2/3 of the field." Why online there seems to be the same amount of people eliminated in the exact same amount of time. But when I play live or a house tournament. It sometimes take an hour for 2people to get eliminated. But it seems online 1000 people get eliminated in an hour. That is how I come to the conclusion that online poker is fixed or they push the action.
@Chitzakc JJ is one of my favorite hands... for cash games. Its an overpair thats easy to get away from if you are beat. Unfortunately in tournaments you are often forced to move in before the flop with JJ and often get beat.
i got donked big time!!!... 56k in chips, 60 players remaining i have aces he pushs preflop with ak... he hits nut str8 on the river, and i got knocked out instead of being chip leader!!!
with his M he had to push with J 8 newbies.. why would u wait expecting to catch a monster hand in 4 hands?.. great play and the situation for him was kickass
Was the right move - Would of done the same, especially against that limper who didnt have a higher pocket pair, else he would of raised. And the chances are everyone else was going to fold and he was going to be heads up with the limper with live cards.
I emphasize...they were free hands. He didn't have to pay a blind. You're almost guaranteed to get something better than J-nothing given 4 more free pulls at it.
He's not losing any money by waiting. The big blind is four hands away. He's sure to pick up something better than J8 in that time. Then when you get your AJ or 66 or whatever, push All-In. For some reason the donks at these tables think that any two cards are good when a short-stack pushes all-in and will call you with 64 offsuit (happened to me today)...pretty much giving you a free 60/40 or even 75/25 to double-up...as long as you have a hand.
EGarret. I have no idea where to begin with your lunacy but suffice to say: A-) You have your head in the sand way too deep and B-) I would love to have you at my tournament table anytime.
The idea behind being in the red mzone is that you cannot wait for a hand, and any 2 live cards should be good enough. I don't really think, in normal circumstances that you would get a better hand than a group6 J8s...
Then why not wait and just look at the hands you get up until the hand before you have to pay the Big Blind? It doesn't make sense to go all-in when it costs you exactly 0 chips to take 4 shots at something better.
J8 suited is a 54% fav over any two random cards heads up. Why wait for a hand when you have one that has some sort of fold equity and has some sort of edge already deal to you?
@EGarrett01 It made sense given his situation. What happens if in those 4 hands he hits nothing at all? 27os and such? At that point he couldn't wait for a "good" hand. He HAD to do a little gambling with any live cards and it paid off. Keep up the good work marty love the videos!
it's a fine shove in an unopened pot, but you don't have enough fold equity here to shove after the first guy limps

I don't like this All-In. You had 4 more free hands before you had to pay the big blind.

Folding J8s to wait for just 4 hands when your in red MZone is just wishful thinking on anyone's part.... This is a clear shove situation.
