@BunyipBlue1 yeah I agree with that, all that's left to do now is to drag Home and Away into the correct decade with regards to a regular or several gay characters!! ;-)
@YorkkieGuy Arrrr, Haa Haa Haa! Sorry, but I couldn't stop laughing. That was so funny. :-D "H&A have a regular &/or several gay characters???" Well, we both know that's NOT going to happen, don't we! Look how long it took them to create the Joey/Charlie lesbian storyline & even then it didn't last that long. Of course, after all the gay hatred the Christian Lobby stirred up at that time, the producers couldn't finish that storyline quick enough. :-(
You people are fucking weird.... He's gay- end of story. S'not rocket science. Who cares about fucking religious shit. It's a REALITY SHOW. Get it in your thick heads 'cause many of you don't seem to get the point her... Oh wait! There is no bloody fucking point!
If durrunit has been telling the truth about knowing James Mason IRL, then damn he is lucky! I'm not afraid to admit that I find James attractive - meeting him for real would be an honour. I myself am gay and I think its just awesome that at least one Aussie TV show has started down the right path. Stay cool James! :D
Reading some articles regarding Bob Morley and this interview of James Mason, they sound very mature when it comes to the subject of being gay.
I'm hoping the producers don't just put Chris and Aidan together because they're both gay, I'd like some kind of drama build up them getting together- sort of how Andrew and Summer finally got together.
When Bob Morely comes into the show in September (?), I hope they don't skimp on the potential romantic scenes between his character and James'. Dunno how either actor feels about kissing another bloke, but if str8 US actors have done it (the dude on Brothers & Sisters, Kevin, is str8 and married IRL), then surely these two can get through it w/o drama too! :)
@novaphoenix494 I totally agree. However, I'm not holding my breath waiting for a gay kiss. Knowing Neighbours' track record regarding 'gay' characters as we do, I'll be very surprised indeed if they go that far. Still, let's hope that the producers have 'grown some balls' since their Lana/Sky lesbian storyline & have the courage this time to tell Chris' gay storyline in the same way they tell all the straight storylines. Fingers crossed! :-)
@HatebeingBORNthisWAY He certainly is - but only just. The lame storylines he's given by the writers is an absolute waiste of his character's potential. Quite frankly, I don't even know why they bothered to make him a gay character. Since Andrew made it clear he wasn't gay & thus not interested in Chris in that way, we haven't seen Chris express even so much as an interest in another guy - so much for him being gay! The writers need to pull their fingers out & give Chris a boyfriend.
@HairyBlondArmpits Right on! I couldn't have said it better myself. Unfortunately, even though it's an absolute coup that they've made Chris a permanent gay character, I feel it's highly unlikely they'll give him a boyfriend & we can definitely forget about any possibility of seeing a gay kiss. They would'nt want to risk upsetting the Religious Right any further. :-(
@BunyipBlue1 : Although everyone keeps talking about the narrow minded Aussie Audience, I would suggest people have a look at a teen drama called "Dance Academy" - It's an ABC show of all things screened in a 4:30/5pm time slot that quite openly allows gay interactions to occur in a really quite normalised setting, without pulling attention to it being "GAY" but to the fact that this guy likes that guy. I actually think its one of the most mature responses to homosexual relationships.
@franglestein I heard there was a gay character/s in Dance Academy, unfortunately I've never had the chance to watch it. It's such a shame so many other Aussie shows are too afraid to depict gay characters in such a mature way as you have suggested.
@franglestein In 2011 Australian drama 'Sea Patrol' showed a male to male kisson the lips during a gay storyline. It is on youtube, should be easy to find.
@BunyipBlue1 It gets away from the entire issue of being gay and focuses on the interaction between two guys instead. And although some people may say they are, sidelining the issue or minimizing the struggle of gay individuals (they are yet to do a lesbian story). There is a lot in the works, yes even a gay kiss on a preteen show. And the people on the convo boards about the relationships, focus less on it being gay and more on who sammy would be better with. A huge step forward I say :)
problem with neighbours characters is that their relationship got so small circle. gay stuff is so big issue and if that cause so many dramas, people can simply run away from it and find new people who understands them. I know they are in high school so they can't get away all of them but im sure there's better ways than just standing there and facing them.
We have had FIVE teen gay related suicides in America in the last 60 days. Life for Gay people in the US is much more terrible than most people know from other countries. Homophobia is alive big time in the USA
@yescandles Homophobia is alive big time in most countries, even here in Australia. Unfortunately, here gay suicides are very rarely (in ever) reported in the media. :-(
This is great. Well done James for being brave in supporting young gay people without actually being one. It's this kind of empathetic support that is missing from the lives of a lot of confused young people.
why is it that Neighbours seems to be about 20-30 years behind the times?
internezzo 2 weeks ago
@internezzo That's because Australia is 20-30 years behind the times. ;-)

@franglestein 1970s soaps NUMBER 96 and THE BOX had gay characters and gay couple. See the clips on youtube (ep 631 of NUMBER 96 is a riot)
