  • According to the Auschwitz Museum the tattooing of numbers on prisoners did not start until the arrival of Soviet POWs at Auschwitz in 1941 almost a year after Pilecki's remarkable mission began. The tattooing of earlier numbered prisoners in the camp did not start until 1943 just before Pilecki escaped so it is highly unlikely he was ever tattooed! He never mentioned being tattooed in any of his 3 reports only that he had received an inmate number!

A truly heroic man & story nonetheless!!

  • Chwała i wieczna pamięć bohaterom Polski jak Witold Pilecki !

    Hańba zawszonym komuchom !

  • Biggest heroes of all, staid loyal to Poland till the end, If I ever could even be half of a man he was Id die as a happy man.

  • A true hero. I have never heard of him; but I won't forget what he did. As a Jew; I hold a special place for him as one of the "Righteous Gentiles" in our history. But more than this; as a human being i place him in the small ranks of True Heroes in history.

  • @TheSteveb189

So as a jew - what will you say about jews who sentenced him to death and jews who executed him?

  • @Pankracyogame

Well, it's false to state that only communist jews sentenced him to death and executed him. Even if there were comparatively more jews involved, the vast majority of "communists" involved were ethnically speaking "Polish".

But what would I say if I were a jew? Well, condemn this deeds and prosecute the responsible individuals because they broke the law as individuals.

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Men who executed Witold Pilecki was Staff Sergeant Piotr Śmietański. Śmietański – nicknamed by the prisoners, the "Butcher of the Mokotow Prison" he emigrated from Poland to Israel in 1968. Many so called Polish communists after 1945 has Russian and Jewisch ethnicity. Whole Russian units started to be Polish after orders of Stalin. 60% of officers was Soviets and 40% of soldiers. Many officers of UB was Jewisch.

  • @licicaviki

Please don't lecture me.... I know something about history. I and nobody denies that jews were involved....but so are "poles", russians, ukrainians etc etc etc...The vast majority was non-jewish. See the writings of Tadeusz Piotrowski, Norman Davies.

As I commented before, the quilty ones, whatever their "ethnicity" should be prosecuted. Simon Wiesenthal wanted exact that: prosecuting those "communist" jews who commited crimes.

May I remind you what Jan Karski wrote about

  • @MrFiatlux2004

May I remind you what Jan Karski wrote about anti-semitism in some factions of the AK?

Ans also I want to remind you that 100.000 polish jews fought in the Polish army in the tragic september campaign of 1939 to defend their motherland.

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Maria Dąbrowska was leftist writer, cooperative promotor. She wroted in 1947 "UB, Courts are completly in Jewisch hands. Durning last 2 years any Jew haven`t any political case. Jews judge and punished the Poles." She wasn`t antisemite. Jews played dominant irole in communists ranks after war. It was a fact. They judged Polish patriots as fascists. Because in eyes of communists patriotism is a fascism.

  • @licicaviki

I know about this. Tadeusz Piotrowaski writes about this too. And although there were relatively speaking many commi's of jewish-polish origin, some of them having leading positions in certain camps and for example the UB, still they weren't the dominant, the all mighty who ruled. Don't forget that also Polish hardcore commi's who survived the cleansings by Stalin and co. hated the anti-communist "secret state" members and collaborated with the occupying soviets.

  • @licicaviki

To speak about jewish-polish collaboration and to correct certain untrue "alleged" anti-jewish actions during and after the war it's very important to stick to facts and to do it on a non-racist way of thinking. But also it's very important that attrocities done against jews in the war by poles should be acknowledged. But nobody should make statements about a people based on individual cases, no matter how many there are.

  • @licicaviki

Head of the UB was "Stanislaw Radkiewicz, a ethnic Pole. Boleslaw Bierut, an ethnic Pole.

Please give me evidence that "all" the courts during the Stalin terror were completely dominated by Jews. Numbers, names etc...

Please give me names of Poles of jewish decen who were killed. tortured by so called "jews"....

  • @MrFiatlux2004 I not say that "all" and "completely" but many. Among officers something about 50%. There was many Jews in so called "Polish UB" and if someone say something about it he is antisemite of course. Józef Światło (first name Izaak Fleischfarb) - high rank He was nicknamed "Butcher" – the torture master Ministry of Public Security of Poland prisoners. Salomon Morel Colonel in the political police, comandant of Zgoda labour NKVD camp... many others...

  • @licicaviki

If you and others stick to the facts then nobody will say you are an anti-semite. But if you and others try to use this information to judge a people in general, in this case the jews or polish jews..., or to excuse attrocities done to jews by other Polish citizens then I think this is wrong... I'm concinced that also many jews suffered under communist/stalinist oppression, were killed. tortured by jewish commies.

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Facts is that I was read many about Polish antisemitism but nothing about Jewisch antipolonism. All this facts are banned in profesional historiography. Jews are under care bacause of holocaust. Poles are not. They was also killed by nazis but who cares of it? They was just "stupid Polish antisemites" so let`s do some Polish jokes about Them... and this is my point there are equal and more equal...

  • @licicaviki

Well mr 'Licikaviki', I think very many people care about Polish citizens of non-jewish origin being killed by the soviets and nazis in the Netherlands (many Dutch from towns as Breda, Arnhem and Driel remember the Poles and know about their lost homeland. There are many historians (for example Davies, Karski, Stachura, RC Lukas, Zamoyski, Piotrowski, Timothy Snyder. And what do you mean by "under care"?

  • @licicaviki

I'm convinced that there are many articles about Polish-Jewish relations and the ethnic tensions between them. But most certainly on a scientific factual level which tries to explain the racist tendencies on both sides in broad context. Exagerations by certain scholars (some of jewish origin) which are maybe mainstream in western Europe and the US are hopefully counterbalanced and corrected. And please, jokes are only jokes.... don't take it seriously!

  • @licicaviki

Please, believe, I love Poland and I'm very proud of what many Poles (including other Polish citizens of different ethnicity) did. But that doesn't mean that all the romantic ideas about the suffering polish nation and that all Poles were heroes and the underground state did "all" they could to help and save their Polish jewish fellow citizens are less romantic and not that all true. As Karski states: Poles suffered immensely, but the jews suffered much much more (generally speaking)

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Not all Poles was heroes some was traitors and NKVD agents. They was Soviets with Polish ethnicity like Dzierżyński.... Poland wasn`t free state after WWII because was setup by Red Army, NKVD, Soviets of different nationalities and by Polish traitors and I always be opposed to calling this state Poland and generalization that "Poles" are guilty of some crimes colectivelly. It wasn`t Our state - We just lived under occupation.

  • @licicaviki

I'm not generalizing. There were to many Poles who collaborated either with the soviets or nazis wherever they came from. For example gen. Berling. I and many don't state that Poles are guilty of crimes collectively. But that doesn't change the fact that there were to many Poles who did terrible things to their fellow citizens by killing, denouncing, blackmailing jews and Poles who helped them. So did some jewish citizens too.

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Jakub Berman - Joseph Stalin's right hand in the People's Republic of Poland, Anatol Fejgin - commander of the Stalinist political police at the Ministry of Public Security of Poland, Helena Wolińska-Brus (born Fajga Mindla Danielak), was a military prosecutor in Poland with the rank of lieutenant-colonel, Roman Romkowski (Natan Grünspau [Grinszpan]-Kikiel) Berman's Ministry of Public Security (MBP) during 1940-1950....

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Józef Różański (b. Josek Goldberg) member of the Soviet NKVD and later, colonel of the Stalinist Ministry of Public Security of Poland. Julia Brystiger "Bloody Luna" was a direct reference of her Gestapo-like methods during interrogations... Jerzy Borejsza (b.Beniamin Goldberg) brother of "Różański" -chief of the communist press, censorship and propaganda...

  • @MrFiatlux2004 Yes there was also many communists of Polish ethnicity like Komintern agent and later agent NKVD Bolesław Bierut, Stanislaw Radkiewicz Polish descent - born in Soviet Union and with Soviet citizenship. He lived in Soviet Union first and started to live in Poland after entry of Red Army...

  • @MrFiatlux2004 but nothing was wroted about Jewish antipolonism before and after war. Critic of Jews in any case is antisemitism? They are all saints? Many UB communist persecutors emigrated from Poland after end of stalinism and played role "victims of Polish antisemitism" like Helena Wolińska-Brus (orginally Fajga Mindla Danielak) military prosecutor in Poland. She ordered death to Home Army comander gen.Emil August Fieldorf very known "fascist and antisemite".

  • @licicaviki

Of course not all jws are saints. They are human beings, like Poles. I don't say Polish Jews didn't have any role in those persecutions. And I don't say there wasn't any anti-polish sentiment in certain jewish circles before and during and after the war.. And it's true that many "expelled'" communists of Polish-Jewish origins who did terrible things changed face. But the vast majority of jews didn't have anything to do with, how many examples of jews you give!

  • @Pankracyogame He was executed by the communist. Sadly some were Jewish, but the overall idea is Poland was bullied by many countries over the years and under communist rule it didnt represent the true spirit of Poland he loved. Most polish jews were killed in the holocaust or left during.

  • This is a story for Hollywood.. What I say... they prefere stupid Stalinists' stories made for dirty spoiled money, produced for idiots...

  • Poland was the only country to try and stop the German invasion of their country on main land Europe. This man ipitimized their struggle. He is a first rate WWll hero. His decendents should be so proud. As a decendent of polish family I am proud he is a relative in spirit.

  • @mischak49

It's ok to be proud. But it is untrue to state that Poland was the only country or nation to stop the German invasion. For example France, the Netherlands, Belgium and eventually the Soviet Union (ok, at first Stalin signed the non-agression pact stabbing Poland in the back and afterwards a treaty of friendship).

    To antypolskie środowisko.

  • @divustitus

I judged the Poles by their enemies. And I found it was an almost unfailing truth that their enemies were the enemies of magnanimity and manhood. If a man loved slavery, if he loved usury, if he loved terrorism and all the trampled mire of materialistic politics, I have always found that he added to these affections the passion of a hatred of Poland. She could be judged in the light of that hatred; and the judgment has proved to be right."

  • Zbrodniczym prokuratorem oskarżającym Pileckiego był major Czesław Łapiński

Zmarł on w 2004 r. na chorobę nowotworową w warszawskim szpitalu.

Szpital ten jest przy ul. Rotmistrza Witolda Pileckiego!

  • @SemperFidelisPolonia buahahahah co za ironia losu :D

  • Krakowska Fundacja Paradis Judaeorum skierowała wniosek do ministra kultury i dziedzictwa narodowego o odwołanie Piotra Cywińskiego ze stanowiska dyrektora Państwowego Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau.

  • Right before his murder(!) he said to his wife: "make our children read Thomas s Kempis' "De imitatione Christi"

I never heard of this book before I found out who Pilecki was...

    Thank you also for that!

  • Kroniki Auschwitz - Najdluzszy Apel was removed why?

  • why the other fils like "Kroniki Auschwitz - Najdluzszy Apel" were removed?

  • Glory to the true heroes and defenders of the faith!

  • Now thats a HERO! My hat goes off to the man, and I bow.

  • I am so sorry about this - Grüße aus Deutschland

  • Me too. - Blessings - Rene

  • Well, dont be its not your fault :)

Rotmistrz Pilecki bez watpienia jednym z najwartosciowszych Polakow w naszej historii.

    Chwala i czesc prawym poleglym.

  • Eine Lebensgeschichte mal zum Nachdenken.Tut mir leid...

    Video ist Super, vielen Dank!

  • Man... All of a sudden, i feel so cold inside. Imagine what misery this man must have seen around him in his lifetime. And after all that, he was hung like a criminal... Good thing you made this clip. I never heared of him before.

  • Witold was like Superman... but in reality.... All the best to You from Poland.... Always listen Your heart...

  • actually he was shot...but it doesn't mane a difrence

  • So very brave and nobel.

  • I read up Pilecki after I had seen Auschwitz with my 84 year old survivor grandfather. It just amazes me how this man, a gentile, would volunteer, create resistance, and escape. He is a true hero, far beyond Rambo or any other overly idolized action hero. Hollywood needs to do a movie on him, get his story out before it dies.

  • It will never die. Not as long as Poles live.

  • @measwel i like the spirit of your statement but unfortunately his story only came to light after the fall of the wall and even now it is not common knowledge. Poland has a history of being bullied and occupied so i cant place much stock in the survival of a free-poland.

  • @evillmonky Pilecki's heroism was the subject of a best-selling book in 1975 (well before the fall of the wall) published in English and Polish it was entitled: " Fighting Auschwitz : The resistance movement in the concentration camp." published in London by Friedmann, 1975. The author was Polish historian Dr.Jósef Garlínski. There is new book about Pilecki's Auschwitz report due out in April 2012—"The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery".

  • @fourthskorpion I had no idea, I will look into obtaining copies of both books you mentioned.

  • @evillmonky - sorry, I pressed the wrong thumb! I meant the "up" one you should have 22 ups by now - I agree with you totally, Hollywood needs to cop on to the "real" stories that need to be told. - sorry again - I'm old. - Blessings - Rene

  • Hollywood liked more the plastic herous I`m afraid... and He is a Pole... So They probably invent Polish jokes about Him ...

  • @ferdovit they did Defiance about the polish partisans. And one of the brothers has been charged with a sex crime. if they can make a hollywood blockbuster about them, they can do it about pilecki easily.

  • @evillmonky ... you must be joking! Defiance is about the Jewish partisans who collaborated with the soviets, harrased and plundred local population and these who opposed they massacred, like in the Polish village Nailiboki.

Hollywood never did and will not do a movie about Pilecki or anything that pictures the Polish secret state, goverment on exile, army or the occupied country, except for holocaust of course. Honestly, i don`t care why.

  • Nazi and commie - one big shit

  • I would like to thank you for making a video in memory of Polish heros. They are forgotten in text books. where all you learn is bullshit collective identities.

it warms my heart to see that Polish people did extraordinary things and are not forgotten

my heart goes out to all of you who know your history =D

  • God, everytime I read up on this guy's story I can't help but tear up.

What a hero, there are no other words to describe this man. He was one of the greatest heroes this world will ever know.

Google.

Rotmistrz Pilecki był dobrowolnym więźniem KL Auschwitz, organizatorem obozowej organizacji ruchu oporu (informował świat o zbrodniach nazistowskich Niemiec), uciekinier z obozu, żołnierz Powstania Warszawskiego. Zydokomuna zamordowała go po wojnie.

    Bo był polskim patriotą.

    Polecam książkę Kazimierza Piechowskiego"Byłem numerem", wyd.s.Loretanek, 2004.

    Wstrząsające lektury.

  • Proberly one of the bravest men to ever live!

  • Real Hero. Brave Human and Soldier.

    Witold Pilecki.

    Better dead than red!

    Poland forever!!!

  • Well said. much love from the USA

  • Honour to this heroic and brave Soldier.

I was really impressed by his incredible story.

I hope someone will make a movie about him...he really deserve it.

  • A amazing man, whose story was only ever made public in 1989! After all he went through in Auschwitz, and after he informed the Allies of the attrocities, he was accused of exaggerating, and nothing was ever done! It defies belief!

You could have added at the end of the video that it is rumoured that his dead body was dumped on a rubbish tip...what an undignified end for a true hero.

  • Created a fan page on facebook and made a link on this very good video. Please become a fan of this true hero.

  • Niesamowita historia. Czesc Jego pamieci.

  • Prokurator who accused Witold Pilecki in 1948 was Czesław Łapiński. In 2004 He died in hospital... on Witold Pilecki street.

  • Witold Pilecki is my personal hero. A man who stared pure evil in the face and NEVER blinked. My respect for his awesome bravery knows no bounds.

Niezwykly czlowiek, niezwykla biografia.

  • Polanski by zrobil.

  • Brytyjski historyk Michael Foot zaliczył go do jednego z sześciu najodważniejszych ludzi ruchu oporu podczas II wojny światowej. Niestety postać rotmistrza Witolda Pileckiego ciągle jeszcze nie znalazła godnego miejsca w historii Polski.

  • In my live I have only one real hero - Witold Pilecki.

  • SŁAWA I CHWAŁA NA WIEKI!!!!!

  • Wat A Man

  • 1948-2008 - 60 years of oblivion. Until 1989, information on his exploits and fate was suppressed by the Polish communist regime.

They try erased You from our memory. We never forget.

  • Amazing guy, amazing story. He deserves to be remembered; thanks so much for making this.

  • Thank you very much. Real Hero. Brave Human and Soldier.

  • Unbelievable example of dedication and courage. No one never ever has impressed me that much. I wish I could shake his hand.

He survived so much... WWI, the Polish-Soviet war in 1920, the September Campaign in 1939, German occupation of Poland, over 2 years long volunteery imprisonment in Auschwitz, the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, German POW camps... just to be tortured and eventually shot dead in the back of the head by a Polish communist security officer three years after the war.

  • Czapki z glow! Dziekuje, panie Pilecki...5/5

  • unfortunate this man did not live to know of the Polish pope who began the liberation from communism and the downfall of the Soviet Union.

  • Please all go by the You higher standards with Your comments !

This is real hero and all pass our honor to him. Great of the Great.

we all own him so much

  • It´s very good you tell this story here in the west we need to know the truth of this real hero!

  • This guy has been through alot. That's what I call a real soldier.

  • A Great Person!

  • What a great man.

  • "he was arrested by Polish security service" well... not exacly, Poland in 1947r. was under soviet ocupation (till 1989r!) and there was no "Polish" security service, it was run by KGB, and murderred meny Poles who wanterd to fight with russian ocupation

  • Never saw a bigger hero...

    Superman is nothing against him

  • It is not fair to blame Poland for his death as Poland was no more. This was "Communist" run Poland in May 1947. Many polish died at the hands of "Soviets". My Grandfather was in the 2nd Polish corps and Polands free Army. In 1951 he knew going into Poland was a death sentence and he came to the USA.

"Witold Pilecki" was a hero but did not die in Poland, he died in "Communist run Poland" under the Soviet brutal dictator, "Joseph Stalin". Poland is now free to tell. God Bless Poland

  • Encouraged by Rabbi Israel Singer's, the General Secretary of the World Jewish Congress, statements in 1996 such as " If Poland does not satisfy Jewish claims, it will be publicly attacked and humiliated in the international forum." So it is a plan to deliberately slander Poland's name and manipulate the American public's opinion against Poles. It was permitted to slander Poles now

  • From the U.S.A.:

Very beautiful. A GREAT HERO overlooked in the post War history.

  • I live just a block from him, on Aleja Wojska Polskiego, he is a true hero for me, a symbol, a devotion to what you really believe in, the truth, love and duty. If I could I would have a last supper with him.......to meet him and discover his beauty

  • On the biggest scene ever......

  • It is unbelievable story of a self-made man, the Bravest of the Brave. His life is a perfect scenario for the movie, I wish I will see it one day.

  • He was interrogated and tortured for many months. His finger nails were pulled out and his collarbones broken and he could hardly walk.

    He never “talked”.

After his process, which was a simple farce, he was sentenced to death by a firing squad.

There was no firing squad though.

The executioners dragged him the basement of the Security Headquarters building, into the boiler room.

They shot him with a single slug

    His body was never found.

  • Witold Pilecki escaped from Auschwitz on the Easter Monday 1943, he also survived the Warsaw Uprising an the German POW camp in Germany.

He returned to Poland after the war and started organizing resistance

    against the communists.

When he learnt that the Allies would not help to liberate Poland from the Soviets he started demobilizing the military underground organization.

It was then, that the communists arrested him.

  • Thanks for this video. I would like to invite you (all of you) to the campaign "Przypomnijmy o Rotmistrzu" ("Let's Reminisce About Witold Pilecki"). For details search in google and/or at my websites. Greetings
