  • This is the best video that I have seen in a while. Bet she is the only seven year old that even knows what broaching is let alone have done it. stuff like this teaches work ethic and skills something that is lacking now days.

  • She is an adorable little machinist!!!

Is that a pressure gauge built into the pressure release? If so, I want one and where did you get it?

  • good to see a kid learning a great trade keep it up

  • See the youtube safety police has struck here too. How about you all go lock yourselves in a padded cell and throw away the key. She has a bit of personal responsibility and so has her dad, if they get hurt guess what, its their fault and no one else. So why dont the H&S sissy's F-off. Way to go man, who says you need a boy. I salute you for not bringing your kid up in a H&S box. She is much better off than the ones trawling the streets with no skill sets or aim in life. A+ keep the vids coming.

  • Wow, there IS a future for this country! LOL, that is just awesome - WINNING!!!!!

... I learned machining when I was 12 but SEVEN!? That girl is going to be smarter than all the guys in her engineering classes!!

  • She's a very bright young girl. Nice to see her take an interest.

  • Adorable little machinist! I have to say that this is one impressive little girl. Keep up the great work, but keep her safe too.

She rightly mentioned having her hair 'up' for safety, but a pony tail should also be under a hat or under that shirt.

Howerver, what really jumped out at me was her handling a sharp cutting tool with bare hands. Buy her some gloves. Maybe you can find a tiny pair in pink!

Great video. Please make more 'My little Machinist' videos!

  • @Simpsons36 She is being a machinist! you can only be so safe - the press has no motor on it first of all, her hair is perfectly fine for this job setup... And I know NO machinist that has never hurt himself (HERself in this case). You either learn from your mistakes or get hurt again or possibly even kill yourself.

but, I do agree it's an AWESOME video... nice to see that there ARE some bright futures in America.

  • You give it a rest .You post your video on this site people make comments thats how it works. If you dont want comments good or bad keep it as a home movie.

  • @srussell351

After reviewing the video for alleged safety violations, I did notice at one time, while pointing at the broach, she may have touched it on accident. She does however, promise she will never do it again.

She also just started welding, (using the appropriate safety gear), so when I upload that video, I will be ready for your "constructive" comments.

I will also be uploading a video of her shooting my Kimber 22-250. She is quite a target shooter!

  • @srussell351 It is also up to you not to act like a liberal nazi and poop your pants. How do you live on this planet. You must be scared of getting up in the morning. Health and safety + carbon taxes are the biggest bugbear on our industries today. Common sense, freedom and personal responsibility normally goes out the window when liberal H&S geeks like you strike. Dam I said ''freedom'' ''responsibility'' and ''strike''.Guess the floor is wet now in your padded box.

  • @srussell351 It is also up to you not to act like a liberal safety nazi and poop your pants. How do you live on this planet. You must be scared of getting up in the morning. Common sense, freedom and personal responsibility normally goes out the window when H&S geeks like you strike. Your probably anti firearms too. Bet you shit yourself uncontrollably when gmbo said she is welding and shooting too.

  • Great to see kids learning.Great to see she is also wearing safety goggles as well.

  • your kid sticks her finger close to the job at one point while there is load on the workpiece

  • She also didn't get hurt. Give it a rest.

  • @gmbo6969 something she'll learn not to do when she hears someone called you a doodie head for letting her do it that way.

  • @felderup

HA HA HA, yeah, she will never do that again!

  • buddy machining is dangerous how you going to feel if she hurts herself

  • So is riding a bike, going swimming, playing on a swing, or walking across the street. Accidents can happen at any time no matter what you are doing.

Your right, maybe it would be better if she was sitting on the couch watching sponge bob like all of the other kids. Safe on the couch is where it is at these days.

OR, maybe we should teach them safety at a young age and let them get out in the world and learn a trade?

  • make sure the Boss takes the help out for some ice cream

    great job !!!

  • I will let him know! Thanks!

  • Will know more by high school than the instructor, let alone her classmates.

  • Yeah, she's a pretty smart cookie! She picks stuff up quick and really pays attention. Especially safety related.....

  • haha! amazing and what an adorable girl. she's a keeper! love seeing kids learn early, its amazing in life how one thing leads to another. she will keep this with her the rest of her life and build from there.

  • I think your right! She loves helping out in the shop. I think she will be running it when I retire. LOL!

  • Wow thats cute too. What a nice girl. Good teacher too for being a young one. Even knows the correct terms and what to do.

She must have had a good teacher. :-)

Great job! I still think there should be more women in machining careers.

  • @gbowne1

She is one of a kind! I know what you mean by women in a machine shop. My wife is also a machinist. She runs the manual machines and I run the CNC's. Thanks!

  • I'm 52 years old and I just learned how to broach a keyway from a 7 year old girl! I love the internet!

  • HA HA HA. That's great! The internet rocks! Thanks!

  • hahaa... somebody was kinda hoping for a son

  • HA HA, nope, got just what I wanted. She is a great kid and kind of a tomboy. Not going to complain a bit. Thanks!

  • That is just too darned cute. That's an awsome kid!

  • Thanks!

  • The coolest footage I´ve seen on here in a long time. You must be very proud.

  • Yes I am. Thanks!

  • I know one lucky, and proud, daddy! Congratulations.

  • You betcha! Thanks!

  • She is an excellent teacher. God bless her.

  • Thanks!

  • Isn't she great! Thanks!

  • Sweet.

  • Yes she is! Thanks!

  • one aerospace engineer in 13 yrs then

  • Yep, I think your right!!

  • Great vid!

  • Thanks!!

  • You should never use a hydraulic press to broach. Use an arbor press. A hydraulic press is a good way to shatter a broach.

  • Well, I have broached thousands of parts using this press. As long as you are paying attention to what you are doing and not pushing it sideways, it is fine.

  • Everytime I see your baby broaching I start anticipating getting back home to

the Big Island & getting my shop up & running, the shop is mainly for my family, to care for them & my aging mother...

  • Glad her hair is tied back! Long hair makes me nervous..

  • That is one of the 3 main rules. Eyes, ears, and hair when you walk in the shop.

    Thanks!

  • She's going to have arms like Popeye. lol Great vid and grand daughter

  • She is working on it! She is my daughter, not grand daughter.

    Thanks!

  • She's beautiful Jim...I can't get enough of watching her helping her Daddy!!! Shows what a child can accomplish if when encouraged instead of being discouraged. Now this is da bomb vid!!!

  • That is soooooo cool!!!!!!!!! I hope my grand daughter Tehani will take to machining like this little girl does...

  • Get them started early! I don't think you will have any problem. They love hangin out with Grandpa. Good luck!

    Thanks!

  • Yeah, it'll fun watching Tehani working for

    Tutu Man...

  • Excellent! Most girls run away from oil & machines.

    Special young lady!

  • She is one of a kind!!

    Thanks!

  • What an awesome daughter! Good for her and good for you!

  • Thanks!!

  • you guys both kick butt... you are a great Dad, and she is a kickin' girl. My girl is three, and has already, for a while, like my tools and making things!! I hope she will want to help me like this later!!! Good luck guys!!

  • Thanks!! Keep her involved and she will. She is the age my wife was when her Dad started giving her jobs in the shop. Good luck!!

  • There is a difference between a youngster doing what there told to say on camera and a child that knows what the words mean and the why of it. This little cutie knows what she is doing!!!

That is so awesome!! All I can say is WOW!!!

  • HA HA HA...Thanks!!

  • lol i think we're going to make this a instructional video for the class . again great video . and tell her someone off you tube said great job keep it up kido

  • Best instructional video on youtube! Thanks again!

  • Wow ! This is cool the little machinist lol i'm gunna show this video to every one at school lol i think she's smarter then half of them . im in college for machining right now about to grad . If that was my little one i would the proudest parent alive and i bet you are . Great video !

  • Thank you! I am very proud. When she gets a little older, she will be running the CNCs a little more. I will make sure to tell her you guys liked the video. She loves to hear it! Thanks again!!

  • she is a smart wee cookie ! by the time she grows up she will have a firm grounding in engineering !

  • I hope so! Thanks!!

  • Wow nice video

  • Thanks!

  • Reminds me of how rewarding machining can be. It seems like the press is just the right size for her. Helarious that you tought her how to use a real machinist's hammer as well.

    Great post!

  • HA HA HA. Thanks!

  • My daughter Oldest is 6 unfortunately we don't have near as many toys in the shop, nor could the shop hold that many, it's only 12 X 24 with wooden floor

  • Good to see she's learning safe shop practices, wearing safety glasses and all. good vid! If I had the $ to start my own shop, I'd show my girls too.

  • It's great, I love it. She is so smart and willing to learn. Keep an eye on craigslist. You can find good used machines for very reasonable prices there. Spend $500 on a cheap lathe and start making some parts, then upgrade. That's how I started. Now I have 4 CNC's and manual machines. My shop is packed from one end to the other with machines. Thanks!

  • Great girl you should be proud !

i wish my boy's would show the same interest

    In my company.

  • I am very proud!! She is a great little girl!

  • A better helper than both my 26 year old shop chore man-boy and the 40 year old I hired from the Navy. A living doll and so interested, I'm smiling.

Children can be good machinists. I was trained by a German Jew who was chained to a turret lathe by the Nazi who was given his fathers shop after they shipped him to the death camps. He made 250 kilos of chips every 24 hours making rounds for the military. For extra energy, he drank the lard based cutting oil. Kids, you got to love em!

  • WOW! You need to find some better help!

I use the micro drop coolant on 2 of my machines. Man that stuff smells great when it is burning! It is a vegetable based oil. Smells like cooking french frys! I could see how someone could drink it! Thanks!!

  • Your a good Dad.. My Dad started me out when I was the same age.. I'm doing the same with my children now. My 7 Yr.old boy and 10 Yr. old girl doing good..broaching ,running a #4 Cincinatti Horz. mill, B.P mill, Burgmaster and Lathe.. Knows how to read a mike.. I know there limitations. I don't force them. Your doing a great thing ..Teach her more! Regards, Robbie Robbie's Machine Service, Inc. Brooksville,Fla.
  • My wife started machining when she was about her age. I also have her running the Anilam CNC Bridgeport. I have a remote pendant for start and feed hold. I put it about 10 feet away from the machine so she has to put the part in and walk away from it to push go.

    Thanks!!

  • Great, start them off young. again Great

  • That is my train of thought! Thanks!

  • Pleas remind her that broaches are sharp (damn that sh.t hurts) good vid

  • Many times!

  • i just watched 7 year old broach im a 2nd year aprentace and i dont know how to do that yet i feel so out classed.

  • Ya, I wanted to start her off young. She is a go getter! It doesn't matter how many times I say "your going to have to wait untill you are a litle older", she says, YES I CAN!!! WATCH!

  • i hope my boss doesn't see this and want to replace me with child labour.

  • Well as long as Rachael doesn't apply there, I think you will be OK. :)

  • That's funny you have a good machinist.

  • Yep, she is great! I can't wait until she is tall enough to reach the CNC's!
