Yeah, Wrestling is a great combat sport, but unless ur versed in submission grappling, Bjj, Catch Wrestling, or sambo, u will get caught in a sub, guaranteed, we saw that with the early Ufc's it took awhile before Wrestlers got good with submission defense.

@poohpoohcaca well, if you were a wrestler and based n how real wrestlers trained, they can developed a really strong core. have a strong core and add submission grappling moves into your wrestling, and you've got a pretty effective mma fighter. look at Cain Velasquez, Matt Hughes, and all the other mma fighters with wrestling backgrounds right after the early days of mma when Gracie was owning guys twice his size. it's a matter of training and being more effective.

U have no knowledge of what ur talking about, Karelin is an incredible wrestler, no doubt, but he knows nothing about submission, even if he doesn't get knocked out taking someone down in mma, he would get caught in a submission. This is Rings, not Pancrase. Easy to see how a guy like Fedor can pick up a stupid loss in these ridiculous rules (loss to TK via mandatory cut stoppage)

Hip tosses, suplexes and even the patented "Karelin lifts" look great and score points in wrestling matches. But they almost NEVER do any damage in an MMA fight. First off, Olympic Athletes don't get punched, elbowed and kicked in the head. MMa training is so intense that a great number of fights get cancelled frequently. Aka Brock Lesnar vs Shane Corwin, Nogueira is hurt, etc,etc. Olympic Wrestling is just one training aspect of a MMa fighter's regimen.

MMA trainers should be on a look out for the 8-10 year old boy that would be the next big MMA thing in a 10-15 years time. Start with them from the early age and lead them to greatness. Also, make some money on the way.
