  • I never knew my biological father that well growing up and then he died two years ago, during the winter. Now every winter has been hard, and I don't even know why. I didn't even know him that well. But this song definitely struck a cord with me... I love As Cities Burn now. One of my gave bands ever.

  • I was giving my opinion of the reunion performance of this song in Dallas, and comparing it to this performance. I said things I probably shouldn't have and I hated. But I was still grateful to see them. Everyone just chill out.

  • @DonthackGMJ32 Lol naw man I was agreeing :). I flew all the way from Connecticut to go see them. Best show I've ever been to hands down.

  • Whats with that damn screashing? Is it cool for artists of this genre to sing like dog shit?

  • @9timesnine This song is about his dad who abandoned him and his family when they were boys. He found out that he died right before this show/song. So yes, it is cool for artists to sing with emotion.

  • @LikeBeasts Alright. Chill the fuck out. Im a blues man. I understand emotion but theres just a sreaching noise. Its not JUST his emotions, hes fitting it into a genre. It sounds like a fucking kid.

  • @9timesnine Chill the fuck out? If my response wasn't "chill", please tell me how I could have replied in a more straight forward manner. You asked what the screeching was, so I answered with the facts. Him sounding like a child is your opinion. You sound like one right about now as well. If you don't like it or them, then don't watch the video.

  • @LikeBeasts My bad man. To be honest a friend told me to check this out (I dont know why, I aint into this shit) so I did. I think it sounds like dog shit so I just left my opinion on here. The music I like might sound like dog shit to you. I shouldnt have flew off the handle that way man. We'll never agree. Nevertheless, I want to apologize for bein so offensive man. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece

  • @9timesnine Lol its cool dude! I actually really dig blues. My stepdad brought me up on it. I get that this genre of music is hard for many to understand and/or enjoy, which is why it never really made its way on the radio. We can probably agree on a lot of musical things lol, but I don't think Post-Hardcore will be one of them. Have a good one man!

  • @LikeBeasts Haha. Right on. Take care man. -Cody Lee Meece

  • @LikeBeasts so sad :(

  • @LikeBeasts it's also about the beautiful grace of God

  • shit.. i love that heart-wrenching screaming.

  • marry me.

  • so the haters know, he's holding back tears the whole time.

  • @nastynigganate182 I know right

  • 45 people are DEAF

  • Amazing song and performer, God has really gifted him.

  • I wish he played it like this in Dallas. He seriously didn't have this emotion in Dallas. I was let down, because I was expecting this.

  • @DonthackGMJ32 Agreed. Judging by the videos from his recent performance and witness accounts, he completely butchered it. Terribly disturbing.

  • @JohnMarxism He completely ruined this song.

  • @DonthackGMJ32 Please tell me you're joking?

  • @nastynigganate182 Were you there in Dallas at the reunion show? Because if you were you'd know what I'm talking about.

  • @DonthackGMJ32 I was there

  • @DonthackGMJ32 I was there! A lot of people hated on it, but I really liked it. He sang it so differently, but it sounded so good. So so good.

  • @DonthackGMJ32 I think every time he plays this, it's purely on impulse and whatever emotions he's feeling at the time. I don't think he could ever replicate this again. It's still amazing every time though lol.

  • this seriously gives me chills every time I hear it. I'm so sad I missed the reunion show.

  • Saw them in dallas <3

  • Tomorrow is going to EPIC. Can't wait to see them again!

  • THEYRE BACK TOGETHER :D

  • @americkibosanac No they arent It was only a reunion show :(

  • @FreshNapp It's iffy. All of us aren't sure if they're getting back together. They have a twitter now and are having a show in Texas, so just cross your fingers!

  • such a great band live!! TJ shouldn't have left.

  • So beautiful and his story is just incredible and so inspiring.

  • chord progression at 2:08 gets me every time.

  • i miss this band..

  • Insanely good band! 4:55 he sighs and that made me cry.

  • Wow, amazing :o

  • @vaileZildejen yeah asb is nothing but the best to anyone who actually pays attention. I have never heard a song so personal or heartfelt until this. The last verse where he changes it up and talks about his dad dying of disease hit me like a punch in the stomach.

  • @xPATRIKOSx yeah man that's why he switched up the whole end voice. This shit brings tears to my eyes everytime

  • im literally tearing up listening to this.

  • LIKE THIS IF YOURE SEEING THEM NEXT MONTH! : D

  • @FreshNapp WHAT? I thought they broke up...? O_O Did they GET BACK TOGETHER???

  • His father passed away the day he played this show. If I would have been in the audience I would have broken down during this song. This is just amazing

  • @Ansinth3 really?

  • @Ansinth3 Just from what you said and hearing his voice, I nearly broke down... I love this band now

  • 44 dislikes? just look at my username for the amount of people i will pray for!

  • @jschristian44 looool

  • i learned this song just because of the passion and emotion that he showed here. Great performance.

  • A heart poured out to those undeserving goes further than a "perfect" performance....Godspeed ASB

  • So much passion.

  • this is heart breaking.

  • This band, and this song have a major effect on my life. I will always love them.

  • dang, someone istrying to be conor oberst....

  • @gdobsessed are you fucking kidding me. gtfo.

  • @ViolentAesthete8 well that's a nice thing to come out of someones mouth who listens to christian music.

  • @gdobsessed why does it have to be classified as christian music? personally, I am a secular humanist. do you know what that means?

he is not trying to sound like conor. why would he do that, he was just as well known as conor when this was recorded.

  • love this song..

  • 1,43 .

  • his voice sounds like the singer for oceana

  • @ramdor4 no no the singer of oceana sounds like him

  • 39 people were born without souls.

  • you guys are all idiots. jonny craig has the voice of an angel, but cody is probably the best guitarist/songwriter of our time, so to compare them you just proved how dumb you all are.

  • @ceroniandrew

    @lochmeremanor

    @HoRisoN2797

guys.... dont argue or hate here.. this is too beautiful. lets keep this video as the one place on youtube where we can come to be friendly and appreciate this amazing song/man/band.... because at the end of the day, we all love Cody. much love bros.

  • almost as good as The Mars Volta's version

  • @Norther219

    Dude, completely different song.

  • He has an amazing voice dude, but guess what like everyone he isnt perfect live. Besides i would much rather listen to his voice here because you can hear the emotion in his voice a lot better.

  • @HoRizoN2797 jonny craig... high as fuck and drunk beyond recognition. he nailed every note and i daresay was "perfect" live.

  • @lochmeremanor seriously? did u really just say that cuz idgaf about johny. he is crap compared to Cody. I have more respect for Cody than i will ever have for johny. u didnt even need to reply in the first place

  • @HoRizoN2797 lol calm down there buddy... just making conversation. I agree Cody is 200 times the musician jonny will ever be, as he is an infinitely more meaningful and talented musician. I misunderstood your comment and thought you were talking crap about Cody...

  • fuck i wish there was more music like this :(

  • I think people who appreciate real music can look past what he's lacking in vocal talent. The amount of effort and emotion he puts into this more than makes up for it

  • @controlfreq11 he..... is not lacking in vocal talent. sweet jesus how could you say that?? lol

  • @lochmeremanor to us he isn't, but to your average music listener with a generally shitty taste in music, I think they wouldn appreciate it

  • @controlfreq11 oh i agree completely.... and not just folks who are all about the newest hip hop and stuff... honestly the most annoying music fans are the kids who are into all the chug-chug fillintheblank-core music... not that its all bad, but that crowd is more narrow minded than those who listen to everything on the radio, in my observation...

  • @lochmeremanor Dude idk if we could be more on the same page

  • @controlfreq11 but you're right about the effort and emotion... he's awesome :D

  • the most emotional video on youtube...no contest

  • Gives me chills everytime i listen to this song! <3

  • i love how thr crowd did the vocals in the background it just adds to this magical performance

  • i miss ACB ;( love you Cody<3 (:

  • @CarissaBringsHorizon well said!

  • Makes me cry, every single time. So powerful and emotional. Absolutely flawless and breathtaking.

  • This has been my favorite song for years, It'll never change <3

  • check out cody and aaron in their new project "hawkboy." good stuff :D

  • I remember that show being especially…like, I remember feeling like it wasn’t real. There’s so much love underneath a tent, you know? And it was just for people. I know that Jesus had the most to do with it, but even aside from that, I know that not everyone at Cornerstone is a Christian. But from my viewpoint, I felt like there was a whole lot of love, and it was very powerful. I’d have to say that’s probably one of the best shows I can think of.

    - Cody on this performance

  • Wow.... this guy actually reminded me of Jesse Lacey from Brand New..... I'm really impressed.... :)

  • @jonnnnniej I agree x100000000

  • it just rips my heart into pieces. Maybe people say his voice isn't perfect, but this song touched me deeper then any perfect-sang song could ever do.. So pure.

  • HAWKBOY IN BATON ROUGE MAY 28TH! MANSHIPTHEATRE . ORG FOR TICKETS!

  • i should have known better than to re-watch this video while i'm depressed......

  • like if this band literally changed your life like they did mine.

  • @solololomon This band means the world to me. Literally my fave band

This song really speaks to me, even if i never truly lost a father, it can be taken in context of all world problems

  • this song made me forgive my parents, and thank God they're still alive. Awesome performance. :)

  • Such courage and emotion. one of the greatest songs of all time. this makes me cry every time. his forgiveness even in the pain is so beautiful and encouraging, and its all because HIS forgiveness is so great

  • This makes me want to see the original ACB (with Chris) Live SOO FREAKING BAD! DAMNIT WHY DID YOU GUYS HAVE TO GET MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS!

  • i just found this band and I could say that this is one of the best live performances i've ever seen!

  • Whomever got to see them live.. Ya'll are lucky! (:

  • they should get back together

  • This song make me wanna cry Best Performance i've seen in such a long time. *hugs*

  • goosebumps. period.

  • oh my God, i'm crying. God help him. oh my goodness, i'm crying as if he was my father.

  • HEY WHAT THE FUCK!

This isn't the mars volta song :(

    JK, lub yoo.

  • Hawkboy plays three old songs off Hell or Highwater and they play two or three new songs.

  • dont know why...but it breaks my heart..

  • this is the kind of group that makes me love music

  • 38 people have no heart, whatsoever. Who could possibly dislike this song?

  • He won't play this song anymore.

I saw hawkboy(cody's project) last night, and he never played it.

  • @Mikeyyopz its only songs off of Hell or High Water and new stuff

  • @Mikeyyopz i am seeing them in a few days. which songs did they play??

  • @Mikeyyopz which songs did they play? im just wondering since i am seeing them in a few days

  • I can relate to this song so much...

  • I love this song. I love how you can just feel him singing from his heart...and especially at the very end where he added those lyrics. It brings tears to my eyes because of how sad he looked...I don't care if his singing was off or not, it was beautiful.

  • i cant help but get a little choked up everytime i hear this songg.

  • Is he really just by himself??

  • I tug my dick hard to this song.... right when his voice comes in I nut FATTT

  • I wonder if they filmed anything else from this show

  • I don't wanna offend the 'hardcore' fans, but what's with this? The original isn't half bad, but this version, honestly, it's all over the place... I'm not knocking the lyrics or music, just the singing is out of key...

I dunno... i just never got this whole "deep emotion, quality of singing doesn't matter" thing :/

But how can you act so surprised when people dislike it??

  • @RajanSagoo Because its more than just the song or if its all over the place, obviously, his emotions are all over the place at this current time. Its about something that deeply effected his life, wouldn't you feel the same? I've seen ACB live before and they are AMAZING. They didn't play this song I don't think, but it obviously shows how much this particular situation impacted him. Plus ACB left hardcore a LONG time ago.

  • who the hell would dislike this song? 38 people don't know quality music

  • i saw them when they started in cleveland tn :D

  • This song is a life changer.

  • This song simply gives me goosebumps. I am completely unafraid to admit that I cried the first time I heard this, because it is just that powerful. I wish more music was made with as much raw emotion as this. There need to be more songs strong enough to evoke tears in this world.

  • @fateofbbymoose it takes so much, and you need to make yourself so raw and open to make a song like this, i know why there arent more song like this, it's so fucking hard to do. i can't do it, i try, but writing a song like this, even if you never show anyone ever, is one of the most burdening and terrifying things to do, and i wish i could do it. songs like this are so rare because you literaly need to break yourself down emotionaly to wirte them. i'm so glad this was written, its perfect.

  • @sol319 Hm, thank you for writing this. this was about the most intense song I've listened to this yrat one point, I just prayed for him and the other broken hearteds out there.Parent child bonds are quite somethng. If I were to write a song now about my dad, it would be rather raww . see ~dad has sooo much love me me, his wife,my sis..my bro.just well...1 problem..2 but i'll just share 1..he is dying, and well, that love will go..i mean, it will live on, just...oh tearsss. hug..needing touch.

  • I hope the mic was sanitary...

  • I am going to see him live next month!!

  • @Brandnewfan947

    Are you really? where?

  • @nickpenner26 Cody and Aaron are in a new band called "Hawkboy". There tour starts on march 1st and I am seeing them march 31st in North carolina!! Soo exited. They are supposed to be playing two new songs plus hell and high water songs!!

  • @Brandnewfan947 Where can I find info on Hawkboy?

  • @DS6FILMS They are on facebook!! And I'm sure if you google them they will come up.

  • It's sad, but most of the best musicians (I don't mean all) are the ones in pain...

  • @Brandnewfan947 I'm going to the one in So Cal! mainly going for Emery, but I love how into it that they get, without a care in the world of how other people see them musically. Now that I'm starting to listen to them a bit more, I'm getting even more excited!

  • @Brandnewfan947 saw them last night..... they were unbelievable

  • id never heard of this band until today. ive never had a song make me cry like this one did. their singer has such a passionate voice its like... you have to feel something when you hear this song.

  • adas

  • i was there and my father left us in 89..

  • i know how he feels my dad abandoned my mom, me and my sister when i was born :C

  • The Most Epic Thing I Have Ever Seen! The Emotion He Shows In This Is So Real! I Love This Band So Much! I Grew Up With Them And Almost Feel As If They Were My Family And Even Helped Me Through So Much! THE. BEST. BAND. EVER. TO. PLAY.

  • The Most Epic Thing I Have Ever Seen! The Emotion He Shows In This Is So Real! I Love This Band So Much! I Grew Up With Them And Almost Feel As If They Were My Family And Even Helped Me Through So Much! THE. BEST. BAND. EVER. TO. PLAY.

  • You can tell that hes holding back tears the whole time. Especially at the second verse and the bridge. It gives me chills.

  • This is probably the most emotional performance I think I've ever seen in my entire life.

  • wow. this is suck a passionate and powerful song. Ive been crying for 10 minutes.

  • For the Father argument, this is what it means.....anyone can be a "father" but it takes a real man to be a "dad". She didnt want them to give him the respect of calling him a dad.

  • @branthehun actually it's the opposite dude. She wanted to teach him and his brothers that even though "daddy" made tons of mistakes, you should still love him as your "father"

  • @CoffeeSugarHigh no, he was right. she didn't want them to love him, he walked out on them. this is a song about him not knowing how to feel because he still loves him, because he is his dad.

  • Ok for the father arguement. Dude this is what it means..She wanted them call him father and not daddy because any one can be a father...but it takes a real man to be a DAD. thats why. no one says daddy to a dead beat father. they say it to a father that knows them and is there for them.

  • I just cried.

  • god i wish i could see them one more time

  • @HitTheLights25

I wish I could have seen them at all, I only heard of them after they broke up... And I live in Canada

  • When he said "not to call you daddy" referred to his earthly father, then he said "but to call you Father" referred to his Heavenly one. This is the greatest song ever.

  • 35 people have no idea...

  • This song made me tear up the first time i heard it, because its my real dads an I relationship... down to the very last detail.

  • @ATRA7XIF5 this is a very good song j.! its nick

  • This is just amazing. Respect.

  • best lyricist to ever walk the earth. it's so real.

  • This song gave me chills... Its so refreshing to hear music that isn't so "perfect" and studio produced. The raw emotion that he sings with is what makes this song so incredible. He sings with so much passion and its so personal to him. This is one of the best live performances i have ever seen

  • Merry Christmas to all....youtube/hoopy507

  • who would ever dislike this? i don't even like this kind of music. i had chills this whole time they wouldn't stop. this is amazing i serioulsy don't understand how 35 people could dislike this

  • If its true that the singer's father really died when he performed this song that nite...thats pretty crazy and it mustve been an insane moment in his life...props 2 him 4 completing the song...love this songggg. the crowd participation mustve made it much better

  • @xxmannyfresh64xx yes, it's true, i was there

  • chills. fucking chills.

  • i will always come back to this video over any other on youtube
