Dinosaur Jr. with Mike Watt on bass. Why could this have not been one of the few concerts I've seen? I was wearing a Minutemen shirt in a class a few years ago and the professor told me he'd never seen one before, meaning he knew the band. I was schocked. He then told me he saw them with Dinosaur Jr. I would've traded in all the shows I've seen for that one.

I wouldn't say that Lou is any better than Mike. Nor would I say that Mike is better than Lou. They're two completely different players: Mike plays with his fingers, Lou with a pick; Mike likes to run all over the place on the bass, Lou keeps it more in the pocket, pumpin' on the root note. Mike's style is great for the Minutemen/fIREHOSE, but as far as Dinosaur Jr. is concerned, this just isn't as good as when Lou plays it.

I like both Dinosaur and the Minutemen. Mike Watt's an awesome bassist and a cool dude, he's got his own style of playing, but with Dinosaur I definitely prefer the OG lineup with Lou playing a more supportive role. Seems like Mike's wanting to funk things up a bit here, which could be cool, if only the rest of the band went along with it.
